Book review: The Spy who saved Christmas, by author Dana Marton

I got lucky and got to read my first Dana Marton book last week. I actually received two but I'm only going to talk about The Spy that Saved Christmas. This has a Christmas title and takes place right before Christmas but is also a romantic suspense. I wasn't sure what to expect because it was a Christmas theme i expected alot of fluff. I got alot more than i counted on. Below is the blurb from the back of the book.

In one unforgettable moment, Lara Jordan broke all the rules in her play-it-safe handbook and spent an incredible night with Reid Graham, a practical stranger. But before she even had time to bask in her fearlessness, a suspicious fire stole him away and left her pregnant, heartbroken and alone. Until now.

Walking back into Lara's life after two years was never on the operative's agenda. Unfortunately, remaining "dead" was no longer an option once their baby boys were kidnapped. Now, Reid had to convince Lara she could trust he'd sacrifice his own life to bring their children home for Christmas— without admitting the mission might just come to that.

The shorted up version.  Lara and Reid get together for one night of hot passionate sex. There is this awful fire where it appears that Reid dies in. Lara find out she's pregnant with twins and 14 months later Lara sees Reid in a restaurant and goes to confront her unbelieving eyes. This is where the action really picks up. Reid is part of a government agency and was undercover before when he met Lara and he is again. Lara gets in the middle of his assignment and her twin boys end up kidnapped. Reid realizes he still has feeling for Lara and is floored when he finds out her twin babies are actually his sons. He vows to get them back and make her safe before he's forced to leave her again. This is a great little read. The suspense is there throughout and the pace is good. You don't have time to get bored with it. This was one of those books i sat down and read in one sitting. Look forward to more Dana Marton books in the future.

I give The Spy who Saved Christmas 5 Modokker Book Pick Stars. I couldn't find anything i didn't like about it.You can check out Dana Marton and her book list by visiting her website by clicking here. You may also read a excerpt and first chapter there as well.

Book review: Edge of Sight by author Roxanne St Claire.

Hey everyone! Let's talk about Roxanne St Claire's latest release Edge of Sight. This is the first book in a new series that is called The Guardian Angelinos. There is a free prequel to this series that's about 26 pages or so that you can read online on Roxanne's website. Find it by clicking here. Read that and you will probably be ready to go buy the first book and dive into this book head first. This series is a different take on her Bullet Catchers series.  I love the Bullet Catcher i think you'll love The Guardian Angelinos just as much. Below is a little blurb.

The killer she can't escape . . .

The heartbreak she can't forget . . .

The one man who can stop them both.

When Samantha Fairchild witnesses a murder in the wine cellar of the restaurant where she works, the Harvard-bound law student becomes the next target of a professional assassin. Desperate for protection the authorities won't provide, Sam seeks help from Vivi Angelino, an investigative reporter who recruits her brother, Zach, to protect Samantha. A Special Forces vet with the scars to prove he's equally fearless and flawed, Zach takes the job, despite the fact that he and Sam once shared a lusty interlude that ended when he left for war and disappeared from her life. Now, as they crack a conspiracy that leads to Boston's darkest corners, Sam and Zach must face their fears, desires, and doubts, before a hired killer gets a second shot...

Reading the prequel will explain alot about Sam and Zach relationship before this book and Sam's relationship with Zach's twin sister Vivi. This book tells Sam and Zach's story but also introduces you a little to the rest of the family you'll see throughout. If you're a Bullet Catcher fan you'll get to see some guest appreances by some of the characters in this series. You don't see Johnny Christiano in Edge of Sight but he is a cousin of the Angelino family and he gets a mention. This a awesome start to a new series and you find yourself rooting for Zach and Sam to find a way back to each other. You'll love this awesome Italian family and at the back of the book there is a excerpt for the next two book in this series. You can check out more info on Roxanne St Claire and all her books by going to her website by clicking http://www.roxannestclaire.com/index.html . While you are there you can read a excerpt to Edge of Sight and the next two books in The Guardian Angelinos series.

I give Edge of Sight 5 out of Modokker Book Pick stars.

Book review: The Best of Friends by author Susan Mallery

The Best of Friends

Pocket Books

October 2010

In high school, studious Jayne Scott and wild child Rebecca Worden became unlikely best friends—atie that endured even after Rebecca fled her family to live overseas. After Jayne’s mother passed away, she became part unpaid assistant, part surrogate daughter to the wealthy Wordens.

But now, ten years later, Rebecca is coming home to L.A. to cause havoc for Elizabeth, the mother who all but rejected her. And Jayne finds herself pulled deeper into the Wordens’ complicated family dynamics—especially when Rebecca’s brother, David, returns as well.

David is the man Jayne always wanted and knew she could never have. But when he gravitates toward her in spite of Elizabeth’s protests, her vow to escape the family’s shadow is put to the ultimate test. And as lies are shattered and true feelings exposed, Jayne must decide where loyalty ends, and love begins. . . .

This is what i call a twisty book. Meaning there are lots of twists and turns in it. My perception of what the book was going to be and how it would progress kept changing as i kept reading. A few times i wasn't sure if i liked the twists and turns but it really kept me reading and not wanting to put it down. I kept wondering where the whole thing would end up. I didn't expect all this with this book but it was a interesting surprise. While i enjoy predictable story lines well enough this was no where near predictable and kept you wondering til the end. Only thing i'm not sure i cared for was the way one of the characters was left at the very end of the book and i wondered if there might be a story in the works for her that would tell what happens with her next. Word from Susan Mallery was "Not at this time." I guess you are left to decide what she does then. Then again you never know her story might get told yet. I give "The Best of Friends" 4 Modokker Book pick stars.

Book review. Midnight Rainbow By author Linda Howard.

Ok i'm kind of a kind of a Linda Howard fan. If you read my blog you'll notice I've talked about Linda Before. I recently read Diamond Bay that my library had in the new books section. Turns out it is a reissue not new. It was new to me so it is all good. I really enjoyed Diamond Bay but got the feeling there was something i was missing. I keep track of what i've read using goodreads.com . I went to put Diamond Bay in as read and that's when i discovered it was part of a series. Ah ha moment. That's what i was missing. There were a couple characters in Diamond Bay that seemed like i should've known something about. These people would be Grant and Jane. Kells friends in Diamond Bay. Upon investigating some i found i actually had read 3 of the 4 books over the past year but of course backward because i didn't realize they were part of a series. I think you can get away without reading them in order of course but if you know me i really like to read them in order regardless. lol I had to order Midnight Rainbow thru my libraries inter loaning service. Don't mind the funny name because the books is great. It was also reissued in hard cover and that one is only 224 pages so a easy read. This is a romantic suspense with a bit of humor thrown in which is just the way i like it.

PRISCILLA JANE HAMILTON GREER

Was she a society girl in over her head, or part of an espionage ring that could compromise U.S. interests for years to come? The only certainty was that she was a captive in Costa Rica, and her very wealthy, very well-connected father wanted her out--fast.

GRANT SULLIVAN

He was the best agent the government ever had, and he came out of retirement to rescue Jane. Finding her was easy; getting her out was something else altogether. In the time they spent together, questions of guilt and innocence began to fade against the unassailable reality that two people who never should have met were irrevocably in love.

If you want a fast read and enjoy romantic suspense i think you'll like this book. Originally published in 1986 it's been reissued in hard cover last year. Once you read this one read Kell Sabin's story in Diamond bay reissued in hardcover this year. Diamond Bay i found in my libraries newly arrived book section.  Heartbreaker comes after Diamond Bay and then lastly comes White Lies to complete the series. I'm thinking i have to go back and re read the last 2 books now. I give Midnight Rainbow 4 and 1/2 Modokker Book Pick Stars. Loved it

Archangel's Consort by Nalini Singh

Book review: Veil of Night by author Linda Howard

Wow it's been a while since I've posted here but life just seems to keeps to be keeping me busier than I'd like. We've settled out oldest son in college but he won't seem to stay there. Every weekend he shows up here at home. lol Our middle son has had several medical issues come up. Nothing serious but that's another distraction and then the youngest well he's actually doing pretty good. I haven't posted here in a while but that doesn't mean i haven't been reading. Recently i discovered author Johanna Lindsey. I really have been enjoying her series on the Malery family. I'll try to review a couple of those books later this week. I make several trips to the local libraries a week lately and i happened upon a copy of Linda Howard's newest release "Veil of Night" Once i got a few chapters in this book it put me in mind of a early release of Linda Howard's called "Mr Perfect". That's been my hands down favorite of Linda Howard and i'm pretty sure i reviewed it a few months ago.  Below is a little inside cover blurb on the book.

Jaclyn Wilde is a wedding planner who loves her job--usually. But helping Carrie Edwards with her Big Day has been an unrelenting nightmare. Carrie is a bridezilla of mythic nastiness, a diva whose tantrums are just about as crazy as her demands. But the unpleasant task at hand turns seriously criminal when Carrie is brutally murdered and everyone involved with the ceremony is accusing one another of doing the deed.

The problem is, most everyone--from the cake maker and the florist to the wedding-gown retailer and the bridesmaids' dressmaker--had his or her own reason for wanting the bride dead, including Jaclyn. And while those who felt Carrie's wrath are now smiling at her demise, Jaclyn refuses to celebrate tragedy, especially since she finds herself in the shadow of suspicion.

Assigned to the case, Detective Eric Wilder finds that there's too much evidence pointing toward too many suspects. Compounding his problems is Jaclyn, with whom he shared one deeply passionate night before Carrie's death. Being a prime suspect means that Jaclyn is hands-off just when Eric would rather be hands-on. As the heat intensifies between Eric and Jaclyn, a cold-blooded murderer moves dangerously close. And this time the target is not a bride but one particularly irresistible wedding planner, unaware of a killer's vow.

Sound pretty good? It was! Both Eric and Jaclyn have been divorced neither is looking for marriage or a serious relationship. Yet when they meet when Jaclyn kind of runs into him literally there is a instant attraction. Later they bump into each other again in a bar and get along well enough to exchange phone numbers. Neither can get the other off their mind and Eric calls her before he even gets home and she invites him over. The result is a one night stand. At least that's what they are thinking at first but again neither can get the other one off their mind. Jaclyn is a event planner and most of her events are weddings. This week she has 6 weddings in 5 days so busy doesn't even begin to explain her week. One of the brides she is dealing with is literally a bridezilla you hear about on TV. She has to meet with her and several vendors for her wedding when things get ugly. The bride, Carrie is extremely difficult and gets off and being mean to people. She decides she is going to fire Jaclyn and threaten her and the other vendors that they'll never work any important events when she's done with them. She even goes so far as to slap Jaclyn. Unfortunately later that day Carrie is found murdered in the same building the meeting took place. Eric is assigned as the cop to investigate it and Jaclyn is one of the prime suspects. This is where things get sticky for Eric and Jaclyn. He has to be be by the book to protect himself and Jaclyn and he can't even tell her he believes she is innocent. Then it becomes apparent the real killer things Jaclyn knows something and she becomes a possible victim herself. You have to read the book to find out how it ends and all the deets in between. I really enjoyed the humor bits in this book. That's what put me in mind of Mr Perfect. Good story with likable characters. Just a few places it seemed to lag a bit but not enough to turn me off. I give Veil of Night 4 out of 5 Modokker Book pick stars!

Book Review: Risk No Secrets (5th book in Black Ops series) by author Cindy Gerard

I've really been enjoying The Black Ops series by author Cindy Gerard. I reviewed a couple of the first ones but since then plowed my way thru the remaining books in the series. I don't mind saying that i really enjoyed them all. I think my favorite is Johnny Duane Reed's book which is 3rd in the series called Whisper No lies (green cover) the man has it all and doesn't even realize it. Crystal the heroine to Johnny's hero status is total kick ass. Cindy writes the men as strong characters who are tough as nails but still have their inner demons but she also has some super tough women. All i can say is the last few chapters of Whisper no Lies shows you how Cindy Gerard equalizes the men and the women. I found myself cheering Crystal when she saves herself from 3 bad ass men. lol  Anyway let me get back to the 5th book in this book Risk No Secrets. This one is Wyatt (Papa Bear) Savage's story. To me this story starts out tranquil with Wyatt going home to see his family he hasn't seen in 2 years and contemplating his life. That all ends with the ringing of the phone when a old love from his past calls from El Salvador and needs his help. Of course he goes to help but here's the thing. Sophie is married to his best friend Hugh. At least he thinks she is. He and Hugh both had the hots for her 12 years ago when as CIA operatives they took a Spanish language class in which Sophie was the teacher. They both courted her but Hugh got the girl. So where's Hugh now when Sophie needed help? Old feeling come back and now what? Below is a blurb from the back of Risk No Secrets.

A RED-HOT ATTRACTION . . .

Twelve years of chasing bad guys didn’t erase beautiful Sophie Baylor from Wyatt Savage’s memory. If he had another chance, he’d never let her leave. So when she tracks him down from El Salvador and begs for help, he doesn’t ask questions—he just goes.

STARTS WITH A TERRIFYING THREAT . . .

Sophie is grateful her daughter survived a kidnapping attempt, but she won’t forgive herself until the girl who was mistakenly abducted is safe. Wyatt is the only man brave enough to take on the mysterious terrorists behind the crime—and the one irresistible man she wishes she had never let go.

. . . AND UNLEASHES AN UNFORGETTABLE ADVENTURE.

Sophie knows Central America’s steamy jungles and sticky politics better than anyone. Yet she refuses to hide in fear. Then she becomes the enemy’s number one target. Wyatt lost her once, and he won’t lose her again—even if he has to fight, kill, or die to save her.

Really what can i say that i haven't already. This was the first time i had read Cindy Gerard and i really have enjoyed the series so far. I look forward to her next release in this series. I give Risk No Secrets 5 out of 5 Modokker Book Pick Stars. Start this series from the beginning with Book 1 Show No Mercy and work your way thru all 5 books. If you like romantic suspense this series is for you.

Book review Take No Prisoners 2nd book in the Black Ops series by author Cindy Gerard

Take No Prisoners is the 2nd book in the Black Ops series by author Cindy Gerard. Cindy is a new author to me and this is the 2nd book of hers I've read. Wow the jury is always out when you read the first book in a series right? Top that off with the author being someone you really don't know anything about. If you like the first one your still a little wary about the 2nd one. Well in this instance the 2nd one is just as good as the first. Below is a little bit from the back of the book.

A dangerous attraction . . .

Abbie Hughes no longer trusts men, but despite her cool indifference, her long legs and showgirl face still draw plenty of advances. Between working as a Vegas blackjack dealer, going to school, and keeping an eye on her younger brother, Cory, there’s no time for romance—until the night a sexy, mysterious stranger places a wager at her table.

Spurred by revenge . . .

Sam Lang left Black Ops, Inc. when tragedy struck his family. Although he’s determined to retire his M-16 rifle and K-bar knife to lead a quiet life on his ranch, a vengeful quest will send him on a dangerous manhunt for the ruthless international crime lord who murdered his sister.

. . . Reveals a savage threat they can’t ignore.

Though Sam suspects Abbie is in on a lucrative gem-smuggling deal her brother made with the enemy, their attraction is undeniable. Now Cory is missing, and together they search the wild backcountry of Honduras to find him. With evil on their trail and bearing down, they must trust each other completely or face certain death alone. . . .

There are 5 book in this series and i do intend to read them all. Sam Lang is a man on a mission. He's been trying to get his hands on Frederick Nader. A big time criminal whose a flat out killer. Nader keeps slipping thru his fingers, then one day Sam's life falls apart when his sister and brother is law are killed in a car bomb and Nader is responsible. Back off, the message is clear and sent by Nader. Sam quits the BOI's and goes to his parents ranch. Abbie is a beautiful blackjack dealer with a brother who has a penchant for trouble. Her brother Cory finds himself unwittingly pulled into Frederick Nader's world whether he wants to be or not. Then he goes missing. Sam thinks Abbie is in on whatever Cory's been up to. He inserts himself in her life getting her to trust him and when she finally does and asks him to her home he drops the bomb on her so to speak. Things aren't always what they seem though. Abbie doesn't know anything, but one things for sure Sam is about to find out how tough Abbie Hughes really is. This story is full of awesome action scenes with some romance thrown in and a few laughs and heartwarming moments. What i like about this series so far is i feel the story is not predictable. Your pretty sure the guy will get the girl in the end but how will it get to that ending? Ah now that's the thing isn't it? I like how the black ops team is not all in every book but some are on the peripheral and it makes you wonder whose story is next. There are peaks into possible future stories. To read a excerpt of this book and other Cindy Gerard book click here for a sneak peak. I give Take No Prisoners by author Cindy Gerard 4 and 1/2 Modokker Book Pick stars.

Book Review: Show No Mercy Book 1 Black Ops series by author Cindy Gerard

First off this is the first Cindy Gerard book for me. I had  several of her books on my TBR pile and decided it was time to try one. Ok that isn't all together true. I actually won a copy of her lasted release "Risk No Secrets" from another blog a while back and that got me looking on her website to see if it was part of a series. It was book 5 of Black Ops series. Hmmmm so now we get back to the TBR pile. I went and checked mine out and Yipeeee i had 3 of the 4 books that come before Whisper No Lies. I have to track down book 4 and i'm all set to read the series. This brings all this back to book 1 Show No Mercy. Did you follow me? That's not as important as this book so let me give you a little bit of something to think about with this....

The sultry heat . . .

Only two things can compel journalist Jenna McMillan back to Buenos Aires after terrorists held her captive there just months before: a rare interview with a shadowy billionaire and the memory of the dark and dangerous man who saved her. . . .

Hides the deadliest threats . . .

Bad guys, bombs, and bullets are Gabriel Jones’s way of life. But he’ll never forget the brash redhead he rescued not so long ago . . . or the passionate kiss they shared before he sent her packing.

And exposes the deepest desires. . . .

Now, forced together by a bombing at the National Congress, Jenna and Gabe confront the urgent longings that simmer between them. But this surprise meeting is no coincidence. A ruthless enemy stalks them with deadly precision. The question is . . . if they make it out alive, will Gabe turn his back on Jenna . . . again?

I thought when i read that that this book would open up with her kidnapping and Gabe rescuing her but it doesn't. It starts 9 months after with Jenna still a bit freaked out from the whole thing and trying to get her nerve back. She's a kick ass reporter whose been in tight dangerous spots many times but the whole kidnapping and things that happened have really shook her up. Then there was the man who saved her, Gabriel Jones. Gabe is all man big and tough as steel. He's closed himself off from everything but Jenna does something to him. This book is a romantic suspense with lots of action. What i really liked about this book as it wasn't predictable. There were at least scenarios that came to mine for the end of this book as to what was going to happen and darn if was the one i didn't expect at all. I'm all fired up now to read book two in this series "Take No Prisoners" To read more about this series of book or any of Cindy Gerard's other book click here . I give Show No Mercy 5 Modokker Book Pick stars. If you like military type romantic suspense give this series a try.

Book review: Water Bound by author Christine Feehan

Water Bound is a the latest release for Christine Feehan. This is book one i believe will be a series of 6 since there are 6 sisters. The series takes place is Sea Haven. If you follow Christine Feehan you might know that the Drake Sisters series took place there too so you will get to see more of the characters from that series in this new series.  I can't tell you how excited i was to hear that! Let's get start with a little piece from the back of Water Bound.

Christine Feehan’s #1 New York Times bestselling Hidden Currents may have closed the Drake Sisters saga—which “brought paranormal romance to a new high”*--but it has opened the door to an all~new series of startling magic, mystery, and the soul~stirring elements of nature….

The last thing Lev Prakenskii remembered was being lost in the swirling currents of the ocean and getting sucked deeper into the nothingness of a freezing black eddy off the coastal town of Sea Haven. Just as quickly, just a miraculously, he was saved—pulled ashore by a beautiful stranger. But Lev has no memory of who he is—or why he seems to possess the violent instincts of a trained killer. All he knows is that he fears for his life, and for the life of his unexpected savior.

Her name is Rikki, a sea~urchin diver in Sea Haven. She has always felt an affinity for the ocean, and for the seductive pull of the tides. And now she feels drawn in the same way to the enigmatic man she rescued. But soon they will be bound by something even stronger, and their tantalizing secrets will engulf them both in a whirlpool of dizzying passion and inescapable danger.

Oh my gosh so if you followed the Drake sisters series you should remember Lev Prakenskii from Hidden Currents. This book kind of picks up from what happens to him at the end of that book. You get to see some of the characters from that series of course too. Since all the sisters for married at the end of Hidden Currents except Hannah cause her and Jonas already are married and she is expecting you do get to see them some. Jonas is the sheriff so of course he's there is there is trouble. The one amazing thing in this book is Rikki is autistic. High functioning but with sensory problems and she has to deal with her life in a different way than most people. Plus she's had this tragic past to deal with and then comes along Lev. Ah Lev. You think you don't like him to much in Hidden Currents but your not sure because he's kind of kept mysterious. In this book you just end up loving him. You really need to give this book a whirl. It's so well written and you get to see Rikki as a real person who is strong and capable of doing pretty much anything she thinks she needs to. Definitely a good start to Christine Feehan's new series which is called Sisters of the Heart. Six sisters bound by their hearts not blood. No surprise i give Water Bound 5 Modokker Book Pick Stars. You can read more about Christine Feehan books and particularly Water Bound as well as the first chapter by going to her website Christine Feehan.com .

Review: A Date with the Other Side by author Erin McCarthy

A Date with the Other Side is not a new book. It came out in the year 2005.  I came upon this book after reading another of Erin's books and decided to peruse her back list. Then i found the follow up to A Date with the Other Side, Heiress for Hire at the local library. Yes i read these books in backward order but at the time i didn't realize it. I have to report though that they are both hilarious. I spent alot of time laughing out loud when i read these books. Below is a snippet from A Date with the Other Side.

Haunted house tour guide Shelby Tucker gets hot and bothered when she stumbles upon sexy, naked Boston McNamara. She knows he’s no ghost, though he does makes her weak in the knees.

That's it? lol Tell you a whole lot though i think. Read a excerpt here on Erin McCarthy's website. Shelby is a divorcee at the young age of 26. She is helping her grandmother out and trying to support herself by giving Haunted House tours thru a series of houses her grandmother owns in Cuttersville, OH. The most  haunted town in America. She walks in on a naked Boston McNamara not knowing he's rented the house from her grandmother for several weeks. Grandma has plans for them. I'll leave it at that. lol Boston is there from Chicago to check in on the factory in Cuttersville. He's not even sure why he's been sent to the middle of nowhere but it feels like it's a punishment of some kind.

Honestly if you want a fun sexy read this is a good place to start. I really enjoyed it and i wasn't sure i would. I read Heiress for Hire first which is the follow up to A Date with the Other Side. Loved it so i knew i had to read this one too. I'm giving it 5 out of 5 Modokker Book Pick Stars. I can also recommend her Fast Track series. Her next book out is a part of that called Hot Finish. If you like sexy race car drivers try this series out.

Book review: The Search by author Nora Roberts

The Search is the lastest release of author Nora Roberts. This is a lengthy book that is a Suspense romance. It has alot of things going for it. It has alot of laugh out loud parts as well as the suspense and mystery of what's going to happen with the serial killer. While i really enjoyed the book as a whole i felt it was a bit to wordy and had some parts that could've been left out. Fiona is the only survivor of a serial killer 7 years ago and year later that killer murdered her cop fiance and his service dog. He gets caught and put in prison. Fiona moves on and becomes a dog trainer and a search and rescue person. She meets Simon a woodworker when he brings his new puppy to her for training. The whole dog training provides some funny moments and Simons brash no nonsense ways is kind of charming in a way. I ended up really liking him alot. The wordy part comes in all the talking about the training of dogs. There's just to much of that i think. Below is a little piece from The Search.

To most people, Fiona Bristow seems to have an idyllic life-a quaint house on an island off Seattle's coast, a thriving dog-training school, and a challenging volunteer job performing canine search and rescues. Not to mention her three intensely loyal Labs. But Fiona got to this point by surviving a nightmare...

Several years ago, Fiona was the only survivor of the Red Scarf serial killer, who shot and killed Fiona's cop fiancé and his K-9 partner.

On Orcas Island, Fiona found the peace and solitude she needed to rebuild her life. But all that changes on the day Simon Doyle barrels up her drive, desperate for her help. He's the reluctant owner of an out-of-control puppy, foisted upon him by his mother. Jaws has eaten through Simon's house, and he's at his wit's end.

To Fiona, Jaws is nothing she can't handle. Simon, however, is another matter. A newcomer to Orcas, he's a rugged and in-tensely private artist, known for the exquisite furniture he creates from wood. Simon never wanted a puppy-and he most definitely doesn't want a woman. Besides, the lanky redhead is not his type. But tell that to his hormones.

As Fiona embarks on training Jaws, and Simon begins to appreciate both dog and trainer, the past tears back into Fiona's life. A copycat killer has emerged out of the shadows, a man whose bloodlust has been channeled by a master with one motive: to reclaim the woman who slipped out of his hands...

If you would like to read a excerpt of The Search and learn about other book releases from Nora Robert you can do so by clicking here. While i enjoyed this book it wasn't up to what i was hoping to get from Nora Roberts. I give it 3 and 1/2 Modokker Book Pick Stars. Nora Roberts next release is the last in the Bride Quartet series. Happy Ever After.

An old Favorite. Mr perfect by author Linda Howard

Do you have a old favorite? A book you just love and could read over and over? What book is it and why do you like it? I have several. Quite frankly every Julie Garwood book she's written.  One that comes to mind though from time to time is the first Linda Howard book i read. i can't even remember how i ended up reading it. A friend recommendation i think. the book in question is called " Mr Perfect" First plus is it takes place in Warren/Sterling heights MI area. I am from Michigan. The second thing. the characters are awesome. The male and female leads mesh so well. Oh and third yes third there is such a  mix of suspense and romance and comedy there is no room to get bored with it.  It was  initially published in hardcover in 2000 and paperback 2003. It's not been re issues that i know of so you might have a hard time finding it. I found myself a copy last week on paperback swap.com. It's a place you trade your books you don't want anymore for ones that you do. Check out the website for more info. OK back to Mr perfect. I hunted up a little back cover info on the book to give you a taste. Here it is.

WHAT WOULD MAKE THE PERFECT MAN?

That's the deliciously racy topic that Jaine Bright and her three girlfriends are pondering one night at their favorite after-hours of spot: Mr. Perfect. Would he be tall, dark, and handsome? Caring and warmhearted - or will just muscular do? As their conversation heats up, they concoct a tongue-in-cheek checklist that becomes an overnight sensation, spreading like wildfire at work and sizzling along e-mail lines. But what began as a joke among friends turns deadly serious when one of the four women is murdered....Turning to her neighbor, an unpredictable police detective, for help, Jaime must unmask a killer to save her friends - and herself. Now, knowing whom to trust and whom to love is a matter of survival - as the dream of Mr. Perfect becomes a chilling nightmare.

OK it sounds like of ominous and parts of it are i guess but the romance and funny parts balance it out so much. I swear i laugh out loud several times while reading it. Obvious Mr perfect gets 5 Modokker Book Pick stars! Love it!

Book review: Almost Perfect by author Susan Mallery

Wow a weeks gone by again and here i am slacking again. It's been a really crazy busy week but i finished it off by reading Susan Mallery's new release, Almost Perfect. This is the 2nd book in the fools Gold series. The first i reviewed here was called Chasing Perfect. In Almost Perfect Liz Sutton is a New York Best selling author. She grew up in Fools Gold but didn't have a easy time of it and fled at 18 when the Ethan the boy she thought loved her denied knowing her to his friends. Ethan Hendrix you met in Chasing Perfect. He was supposed to have a career racing bikes like his best friend Josh Golden but a accident ruined that chance and then his fathers death thrust him into being responsible for his fathers company and head of his family. Liz found out a few weeks after she left she was pregnant with Ethan's baby but when she came back he finds him otherwise occupied so she left again to have and raise their baby on her own. She tries one other time 6 years later but someone intervenes and Ethan doesn't know about the baby still and Liz is deeply hurt by his rejection of both her and their son. Before you know it 11 years go and she gets a email from 2 nieces she didn't even know she had. They are alone and in trouble and she has to go back to Fools gold to help them. Except Ethan still lives there. Here is a little blurb from Almost Perfect.

Almost Perfect

HQN -- Book 2 Fools Gold series
July 2010

Back in high school, Liz Sutton was the girl from the wrong side of the tracks. Then she'd stolen the heart of the most popular boy in town, and their secret romance helped her through the worst of times. Until Ethan Hendrix betrayed her and everything they'd ever meant to each other. Devastated and pregnant, Liz left Fool's Gold, California—forever, she thought….

Now Liz must return to town and face the man who doesn't know of their son's existence. And this time she won't have the option of making a quick getaway. Ethan and Liz can't deny their passionate attraction, even after all these years. But will their desire be enough to spark a second chance at love?

Ok honestly i kept going back and forth on whether i liked this book or not. lol Ethan is a real ass if you ask me and i wanted to smack him several times. He certainly had to have been immature at 18 and seems it took him a while to grow up. Liz is just awesome not only does she deal with being pregnant and raising a baby on her own but then she claims her 2 nieces without hesitation. The blows keep coming at her but she stands up and does what she has to do. Ethan finally gets a clue at the end but i really wanted to whack him a good one way before then. You can read the first and 2nd chapter by going to Susan mallery's website by clicking HERE. You can read about the first book Chasing Perfect. Her next release is this series is called Finding Perfect which features Raoul who first appeared in Bakery sisters series Sweet Spot as a teenager.
I give Almost Perfect 4 Modokker Book Pick stars. Can't wait for Raoul's book in September. You have plenty of time to pick up the Bakery Sisters series to find out about Raoul's back story.

Book review: Dangerous by author Diane Palmer

This is my first review of a Diane Palmer book. I've read several of her books and while reading them I've been really pissed to totally charmed. Swear i'm not going to read another book of hers and then do it again. I don't know that I've read one I'd read again but maybe this time i may have found one that i would. Are you saying huh? Well my small experience with Diane Palmer books the man is usually at least 10 years older and a real ass. He eventually gets a clue as to how lucky he is at the end but in the mean time you really want to string him up cause he is mean and arrogant. In the book Dangerous, Kilraven is a FBI agent whose wife and 3 yr old girl were gruesomely murdered 7 years earlier. He'll stop at nothing to bring the killer to justice and using Winnie if he has to to do it. Winnie is  a 911 operator who doesn't have to work for a living because she's rich but does so anyway because of a worth ethic instilled in her at a young age. Winnie has some demons of her own as her mother ran off 12 years earlier with her uncle. Seemingly deserting her at a young age.  Can Kilraven open his heart to love again? Course that's the big question. Will he catch his little girls killer? Read and see. Below is a little bit from Dangerous.

He is every inch the desperado.

Tall, lean and headstrong, FBI agent Kilraven lives by his own rules. And one of those rules includes keeping his hands off Jacobsville’s resident sweetheart, Winnie Sinclair, no matter the temptation. Shy and innocent, Winnie couldn’t handle a man like him—a merciless man with a haunted past. And this small town may hold not only the woman he fights to resist, but the answers to a cold case that is very personal to Kilraven....

Winnie has had her own share of sorrow and senses Kilraven’s pain. Even though she tries to deny it, the gentle 911 operator feels a connection with the darkly handsome agent. When he makes the disturbing discovery that her family’s unsavory past might have a bearing on his case, Winnie is determined to help him crack it...and the ice around his heart.

As they combine forces in a dangerous investigation, the stakes rise ever higher. Winnie’s life is on the line, and she’ll need Kilraven more than ever. But if they are to have a future together, her ruthless Texan will need to confront his past and risk it all for their love.

I really enjoyed this book more than any other Diane Palmer i've read. I give it 3 and 1/2 Modokker Book Pick stars. I don't mind the age difference thing in her books but she makes the male leads more nasty than i could put up with. I actually came to like Kilravin though, the hero in this book. He did have a good reason for the way he was and once he finally got past all that it was good. I'd really like to see her female leads be a bit stronger as well. Many of them are just there to be kicked around it seems. Winnie has some guts in this book so perhaps her newer books aren't as bad in that department. I'm not giving up on reading Diane Palmer just yet.

Book review: McKettricks of Texas :Austin by author Linda Lael Miller

It's been a while since i've posted but in my defense it's been crazy busy at my house. My oldest graduated from High School in June. We threw him a party and we did college orientation. The month ended with 4th of July weekend of course and here i am. Doesn't mean i didn't squeeze in any reading. I can always squeeze some in here and there. The book i just finished is the third in a series by Linda Lael Miller on the McKettricks of Texas. This one was about Austin the youngest of the McKettrick brothers in this series.  The two oldest brothers have hooked up with sisters. The Remington sisters. There are 3 sisters and the youngest, Paige used to date Austin. He broke her young heart years ago because he was scared of how serious she was and didn't know how to handle it. He got caught red handed cheating on her. Years later Paige is a nurse and he is doing the rodeo circuit. In Tate's book he gets thrown off Buzzsaw  one mean ole bull and almost gets himself killed. In this book he decides he needs to face the bull down and ride it one more time. He does and gets the points to win. Later his older brothers track him down at a bar and confront him for doing something so foolish considering his previous injuries. He says he's fine but moments later he collapses and ends up in the hospital. Guess who the older McKettricks hire to be a nurse for him? Oh yes Paige. This move on at a slow and steady pace from there. Here is a little snippet about Austin's book.

McKettricks of Texas: Austin

World champion rodeo star Austin McKettrick finally got bested by an angry bull. His career over, his love life a mess, the lone maverick has nowhere to go when the hospital releases him. Except back home to Blue River and the Silver Spur ranch. But his overachieving brothers won’t allow this cowboy to brood in peace. They’ve even hired a nurse to speed along his recovery. Paige Remington’s bossy brand of TLC is driving him crazy. As is her beautiful face, sexy figure and silky black hair.

Paige has lost count of the times Austin has tried to fire her, but this determined nurse is not going anywhere until he’s healed, body and heart.

Austin’s brothers are laying bets that Paige’s place in his life just might become permanent.

If you've read the first two books in this series i believe you can see how this is going to end and even if you haven't you can. it's kind of predictable but i like it just the same. This was a great series that i'm sorry has ended. Can't wait to see what Linda Lael Miller writes next. You can find out more about this book and her other books by going to her website by clicking here. Where you can also read a excerpt from Austin's book as well as the first two. I give The McKettricks of Texas 5 out of 5 Modokker Book Pick stars. Wonderful fun read with a bit of romance, action mixed nicely together.

Book review Lover Eternal by author JR Ward

OK i'm going to flat out tell you this one is a 5 out of 5 Modokker Book picks book. It really is. I decided i needed to reread this book the other day and i did because Rhage and Mary's story is my favorite of all the Black Dagger Brother series of books. Rhage is my fav brother as well. You probably guessed that by now though. OK if your a fan of Paranormal romance you should read the Black Dagger Brotherhood series by author JR Ward. There are now 8 books in the series with the latest Lover Mine that came out this past April. I'm still working on reading that one.  Here is a little blurb on Lover Eternal Rhage's book.
In the shadows of the night in Caldwell, New York, there’s a deadly war raging between vampires and their slayers. And there exists a secret band of brothers like no other - six vampire warriors, defenders of their race. Possessed by a deadly beast, Rhage is the most dangerous of the Black Dagger Brotherhood...

Within the brotherhood, Rhage is the vampire with the strongest appetites. He’s the best fighter, the quickest to act on his impulses, and the most voracious lover—for inside him burns a ferocious curse cast by the Scribe Virgin. Possessed by this dark side, Rhage fears the times when his inner dragon is unleashed, making him a danger to everyone around him.

Mary Luce, a survivor of many hardships, is unwittingly thrown into the vampire world and reliant on Rhage’s protection. With a life-threatening curse of her own, Mary is not looking for love. Her faith in miracles was lost years ago. But when Rhage’s intense animal attraction turns into something more emotional, he knows that he must make Mary his alone. And while their enemies close in, Mary fights desperately to gain life eternal with the one she loves…

I don't really want to say what happens cause i don't want to give anything away but if your interested in this series you best to start with Dark Lover the first in the series and work your way threw them all. You won't be disappointed. I will tell you this the players in this book are humans, vampires and those of the lessening society. The Black dagger Brotherhood are the vampires that defend their race from the Lessening society which are the dead still living ( kind of) and the humans mostly are unaware and in the way.

To find out more about the series and books go to JR Ward's website by clicking here. and to read a excerpt of Lover Eternal click here. Honestly i think you'll just love Rhage and Mary! Give the Black Dagger Brotherhood a try.

Book review: Hidden Agendas by author Lora Leigh

I admit i've been slacking on my reviews of late. I've been reading just not having the time to write a review. Recently i picked up a book of author Lora Leighs at the book store. This got me looking for her website and seeing what other books she has written. If you don't know of Lora Leigh she writes Erotica. From what I've read of her books some have a little some o have a lot. I think it depends on your comfort level and what you like which books of hers i would read. I've read several and have no qualms recommending them to anyone who asks. I would point out though that these are definitely not for those under the age of 18. That being said let's talk about Hidden Agendas. This is the 4th book in the series. I have not read the ones before this one but plan to. This series hooks in with the Elite ops series as well. You'll recognize the some of the same characters in both series. I've read only a couple of the Elite ops books but i'm working on the rest.

Here is a little taste of Hidden Agendas.
SAVING LIVES IS HIS MISSION.

Tough-as-nails Navy SEAL Kell Kreiger is the best there is at searching, rescuing, and taking no prisoners…yet even the rush of ever-more dangerous missions isn’t enough to satisfy him. Haunted by a tortured past, Kell seeks distraction in a secret world of dark intimacies. But when Emily Stanton, the one ray of light in Kell’s shadowy existence, is pursued by a ruthless drug lord, the rules of the game suddenly change—and Kell will have to go deeper undercover than he ever imagined…

SAVING HER IS HIS PASSION.

Emily has loved Kell ever since her father, a prominent politician, rescued him from a brutal life on the streets. They were kids then, too young to act on what was growing between them…but now that Emily is ready, the handsome, headstrong SEAL has decided he’s no good for her. Ever since he rescued her from Diego Fuentes’ compound, Kell’s only duty has been to keep Emily safe. But Fuentes isn’t finished with Emily—or Kell. And to protect Emily, Kell has no choice but to lay himself—body, soul, and secrets—bare…and fight against evil with all his heart.

Sound pretty good? Kell has always had a thing for Emily. He tried to deny it but once she is kidnapped he finds he can't deny what he feels for her any longer. Emily has also had an attraction to Kell but he always seemed to stay away from her. Emily tried for 2 years to live her life to get back to what she lost when she was kidnapped. Her father sent body guard after body guard but she quickly got rid of all of them and then her life is threatened again. Kell is assigned to pretend to be her lover and protect her. The pretend doesn't last long and they find their way to each other and Kell tries to protect her from the bad guys. Action packed and full of hot sexy scenes. I give Hidden Agendas 5 out of 5 Modokker Book Pick stars. This was one of those books i wanted to read in one sitting! To check out Lora Leigh's other books and read a excerpt of Hidden Agendas please click here. There is also a printable book list if you want to read a series in order.

Review: McKettricks of Texas "Garrett" by author Linda Lael Miller

McKettricks of Texas is a series by author Linda Lael Miller. This one is entitled Garrett. This series is about 3 brothers Tate, Garrett and Austin. Somehow i didn't review "Tate's" book which came out in February. You can read a excerpt for both Tate and Garrett's books here on Linda's website. If your not familiar with Linda Lael Miller's writing you can start with Tate's book then move onto Garrett's then you'll be ready for Austin's story in July of this year. You can read a excerpt for Austin on Linda's website as well. For now here is a little blurb about Garrett's book.

Fast track up the political ladder, fast cars, fast women—that’s Garrett McKettrick. Make that was. A scandal has brought him home to Blue River, a place where a man can slow down, take stock and plan his next move. Which doesn’t include staying at the family ranch with his brothers. A city boy for a long time now, Garrett doesn’t think he has the land in his blood anymore. But Blue River has other attractions, like his former high school nemesis, Julie Remington.

Now a striking woman and much-respected teacher, Julie comes complete with a precocious four-year-old cowboy, a three-legged beagle and deep ties to the community. Good thing they have nothing in common—except their undeniable attraction and a future brighter than the Texas sun.

This series is about 3 brothers and 3 sisters. Tate finds a love he lost years ago in his book when he and Libby get together and in Garrett's book Libby's sister is staying in Tate's family home while her rented cottage is being fumigated and due some bad things happening to Garrett he finds himself back at the family home as well. ( Tate and Libby do not live there) Julie ( Libby's sister) has this precious 4 year old son who is smart and funny and you just love him. Garrett finds himself loving the boy too as well as his mother but he is also torn between the ranch and any political aspirations he might have. There is of course some ranch drama thrown in to keep things more interesting. This book follows along after Tate's story nicely. I give it 4 out of 5 Modokker Book Pick stars. If your looking for a nice romantic read with some drama mixed in this one is for you.

Linda Lael Miller has some other series involving the McKettricks you might like like if you enjoy this book. You can find a list here on Linda's website. I've read myself about half the books listed there.

Book Review and awesome giveaway! Haunted Warrior by author Erin Quinn

Oh wow Haunting Warrior just reaches out and grabs you. This is the 2nd book in a series by Erin Quinn. Haunting Beauty was the first in this series which i reviewed in March and you can read that review here. You should read Haunting Beauty first before moving onto Haunted Warrior. Haunting Beauty was Danni McGrath's story and in turn Haunting Warrior is about her twin brother Rory. The series is tied together by the seemingly evil book on Fennmore. There are at least 2 more books to follow this one. The next is Haunting Desire which you get to read a little bit of in the back of Haunting Warrior and let me say it's just enough to get you excited to get the that book now! Alas you have to wait til March of 2011 i believe.  Below is a little nibble of Haunting Warrior.

HAUNTING WARRIOR

A past he couldn't forget.

Rory McGrath’s life changed the night his father mysteriously vanished after uncovering the secrets of the ancient Book of Fennore. The trauma turned Rory from an innocent boy into a troubled, cynical man. Leaving Ireland, he shunned his family, his heritage—and the very magic that has defined his people for centuries.

A dream he couldn’t ignore.

Then the dreams begin…dreams of an ethereal beauty whose touch is more real that any he’s known. And in these dreams, she has a message—a calling for Rory to return home to a destiny that will take him beyond the realm of anything he imagined.

A woman he couldn’t resist.

Lured to the castle ruins where his father disappeared, Rory is plunged back in time, and into the body of another man—a man betrothed to the very woman of Rory’s dreams. In possession of the secrets of his past, his family, and his identity, her hold on Rory is inescapable. For she is his doom. His salvation. And his destiny.

So how does that grab you? If you've read Haunting Beauty you know what a different kind of book it was. It felt fresh and different to read and Haunting Warrior follows along with that. To top it off it's quite a bit different from Haunting Beauty. I don't know how Erin does it but the writing for me was really different from anything I've read. Nothing to typical here. Rory is a broken man in spirit. Ever since getting sucked into the book of Fennmore with his dad when he was 5 only to be saved by his twin sister Danni, he's never felt whole.  He keeps having these dreams of a woman. He swears that she sometimes sees him that he is there and not dreaming. Rory's deceased Nana ( yeah you read that right) she gives him her usual cryptic message about what he needs to do and disappears. Suddenly before he knows it he's dreaming again or so he thinks but this time it turns real. This is where the whole adventure starts. There is so much going on in this book but not so much your overwhelmed. It's more like your on the edge of your seat. Erin Quinn writes it that way. In alot of books you can kind of predict a little where it's going but for me i couldn't do that with Haunting Warrior. You don't know how it's going to end or how it's going to get there. Rory find himself married to his dream woman Saraid. He thinks he's there to find the book of Fennmore but it's oh so much more than that. He's told he's there to save Saraid's people. Can Rory survive long enough to find the book and save Saraid's people? Can he saive Saraid's people? He's not sure he's the man for that job. You must read the book to find out.
I give Haunting Warrior 5 out of 5 Modokker Book pick stars!  Read Haunting Beauty and Haunting Warrior now so your ready for the next installment Haunting Desire!

Review: Montana Destiny by author R.C. Ryan

Oh man! Montana Destiny is the 2nd book in the Montana series. I reviewed the first in the series Montana Legacy last month.  The series is about 3 cousins, the McCords, that haven't seen each other in years. They are brought together again by the death of their grandfather. Their grandfather has plans for them even in death. They will inherit everything if they will continue the search for a lost treasure that is believed to be on their vast ranch. Clues are everywhere but there are those who would like that treasure for themselves. Here is a little blurb about Montana Destiny

Wyatt McCord looks more like an eternal surfer than a cowboy. After traveling around the globe, he is brought back to Gold Fever by the death of his grandfather, and challenged to take up the search for the legendary McCord fortune. But Wyatt finds an even greater challenge in Marilee Trainor, a free-spirit who handles the town's emergency runs and pilots her own plane. When she decides to aid Wyatt in his treasure hunt, she finds herself in the line of fire by someone bent on preventing Wyatt from reaching his goal.

Ok you just have to read this book. First read Montana Legacy if you haven't already,to read Jesse's story then come back for Montana Destiny to read Wyatt's story. Wyatt came back to the ranch for his grandfather Coot's funeral but after he got there he realized he was meant to stay. He sees pretty Marilee Trainor the towns EMT and crack airplane pilot and instantly intrigued. Both Wyatt and Marilee are really independent take charge people, because of things that happened in their lives. Marilee never gets serious never lets anyone in, until Wyatt. Somehow he finds a way in and they both soon realize they've got something going on that isn't so casual. Thing is Marilee doesn't believe there is a treasure. The whole town thought Coot was crazy and after all the stories she thinks maybe they are right. That is until she finds some old scraps of paper with notes from the McCord ancestors journal. She takes them to Wyatt and finds herself believing there might be something to this treasure thing. Review: Tell- all by author Nell Carson

This is the first book published by new author Nell Carson! I saw something about this book on another blog a couple weeks ago and something about it stuck with me so i went and looked it up through my library and borrowed it so i could read it. I really enjoyed reading this book. It's only 265 pages so a fast read. I got it from the library today and as a matter of fact started reading it this afternoon and had to set it down to go to my nieces birthday party but picked it right back up when i got home.  It's one of those books you really can't set down until your done. I think Nell Carson has a hit on her hands with this book. Below is a blurb so you can see a little of what it's about.

In Tell-All, New York City writer Kat Callahan is just finishing an explosive unauthorized biography of Hollywood’s golden couple, Alex and Victoria Janssen, when they mysteriously disappear along with their 7-year old son, Jeremy. Now Kat’s publisher is hot on her heels to finish the book to cash in on the free publicity.

Little does Kat know the charming cowboy who’s just strolled into her life is actually Alex Janssen’s brother, Luke, dead-set on stopping the book. He knows it will reveal a fiercely guarded secret that could destroy the lives of all four Janssens. Now he’ll stop at nothing to ensure that doesn't’t happen.

Here's my take on it.
Alex and Victoria Janssen have a secret. They disappear along with their 7 year old boy. Being big time celebrities the press is after them to find out what is going on. In the mean time Kat is trying to finish this unauthorized tell all book about them. Kat is hoping that getting this book published with her name on it will help her get her real book published that she's worked on for the past 10 years. Luke Janssen can't let that book be published Alex and Victoria mean the world to him as does his young nephew Jeremy so he decides to run interference and try to delay the book getting finished at the very least. He arranges to switches houses so to speak with Kat when he finds out she's registered with a site that arranges this with people who have dogs. BIG PROBLEM once he starts his interfering he finds that things aren't what they seem and pretty quickly he discovers he might just be in love with Kat. How can he protect his family and find a way to tell Kat the truth without losing her.

I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone looking for a really good read. There's alot going on and it's faced paced. You'll love it! I give it 5 out 5 Modokker Book Pick stars.

Happy reading! Lisa

Review: Maverick by author Lora Leigh

As i mentioned in a previous post i was browsing the book section at Walmart and picked up this book as well and entered the author and name info in my iphone so i could find it at the library. I ended up getting it through my states interloaning library system. In Michigan this would be Mel.org. Check with your local library if you live in another state to see if your state has this. If your library does not have a book you can borrow if from another library using your library card. They send it to your library for you to check out and read. Here you get it for 3 weeks and can renew it if that's now long enough. I use it often.

Getting back to Lora Leigh's book Maverick. Turns out this is one in a series called Elite Ops. You can view the whole list and get more info
Below is a little back cover blurb.

IN A DANGEROUS GAME

Micah Sloane knows almost everything there is to know about Risa Clay, including the vicious betrayal she endured years ago and the distrust she’s harbored ever since. The only way for the Elite Ops agent to uncover an assassin—and banish the ghosts of his own dark past—is to use Risa as bait. But nothing has prepared him for her disarming blend of innocence and sensuality, or for his overwhelming need to protect her…

DESIRE CAN BE A DEADLY DISTRACTION

Risa has spent six years rebuilding her life. And now, to save it, she must pose as Micah’s lover and draw a killer into the open. It’s a risky plan—especially with a man as powerfully seductive as Micah. But, as their charade becomes reality, Risa realizes the greatest danger may lie in losing her heart forever…

You can read a excerpt here.

The Elite Operations, ELITE OPs was created to fight against that terror. A six man force working independent of government protocol or oversight, created to do what the others can’t do. They have only one directive. Success of the mission. No matter what it takes.

You can go to Lora Leigh's website to find out more about the Elite Ops series and all the players involved in this series. This book is a full action packed book mixed with hot sexy romance. Risa's been through hell and Micah knows all about it and he's drawn to her for some reason. Unfortunately he has to use her to catch a mad man who killed his mother and was pretty much responsible for his fathers death as well. Can they find their way through all the chaos to find love as well?  There are four books in this series which i plan to read. I give this book 5 out of 5 Modokker Book Pick stars. Happy reading!

Review Slow Heat by author Jill Shalvis

I was browsing the book section at Walmart ( rural area where i live) and was randomly picking up books and checking them out. The cover of Slow Heat drew my attention, which is usually what draws me first and then i read the back cover. Intrigued i got out my trusty iphone and typed in the authors name and the book name and decided to see if i could get it at the library or through mel.org Michigans interloaning library system. I ended up getting it through MEL. Good call on my part. This is the first book of Jill Shalvis. Since reading this one i picked up another one at the local used book store. That on is called Get a Clue i believe it's from 2005 so older but i really liked it as well. Getting back to Slow Heat this one was out February of 2010 so it's almost brand spanking new! Below is a little blurb. Oh and if your a baseball fan there is a extra perk for you in this book!

After a woman claims she's pregnant with Wade O'Reily's love child, Major League Baseball's most celebrated catcher and ladies man is slapped on the wrist by management and ordered to improve his image. His enforcer is the teams publicist, the tough and sexy Samantha McNead.

When Wade needs a date for a celebrity wedding, Sam steps up to the plate as his "girlfriend". But given her secret crush on him and that one awkward night a year ago in a stalled elevator with to much scotch, the whole thing is a exercise in sexual tension.

Wade is thrilled when the pretense turns into an unexpected night of hot passion. But the next day Sam is back to her cool self. As a catcher, Wade's used to giving the signals, not struggling to read them. Now, to win the love of his"pretend" girlfriend, he needs a home run--even if it involves stealing a few bases.

This is the first of Jill Shalvis' books i've read and i really did enjoy it. It's a really fun book but has a couple serious threads with in it as well. This is the 2nd book in the series and yes i've already ordered Double Play the first. I don't think you need to read them in order though. This is a easy read that you'll enjoy all the way through. To read a excert of this book you can go here to Jill Shalvis' website and check out her other books as well. I give this 4 out of 5 Modokker Book Picks stars. I look forward to reading the first of the series Double Play. Happy reading!
