Audrey Martinez is a veterinarian who has devoted her whole life to the care and protection of horses―even if doing so leaves her little time for meeting a man. Who would have thought that a strange case of criminal horseplay would lead her to falling deeply, wildly in love? If only the man who makes her heart race faster than a wild mustang would let his guard down, that is. . .

Caleb Harper is no ordinary cowboy. Sure, he wears his hat, boots, and jeans like a second skin, and displays an easygoing charm that comes from years of working on the ranch. But with his military background, and Army buddies at his side, he is tried-and-true Texas tough. Audrey knows she can trust a man like Caleb to help her save horses. But can Caleb trust himself to resist his attraction to Audrey―or will the sparks of their desire end up getting them burned?

Caleb Harper is the baby of the family. His mom walking out on him and his siblings when he was just 6 left a last mark on him and he can't see himself ever settling down and making a commitment to one woman. A former Green Beret, turned full time rancher he's a walking success story. Audrey Martinez is a highly sought after equine veterinarian. When she gets called to help out a old friend with sick horses at his auction house her life might never be the same. Someone is trying to kill horses or is someone after her.   On their own Abby the oldest took care of her younger brothers. Both Abby and Brice have found love but Caleb insists it's not for him but the more time he spends with Audrey the harder it gets for him to stick to that. I love how this family sticks together and along the way in the series they've picked up more family and friends. This is a very fast paced book. Right from the first chapter things get intense and move along quickly. I can't wait to see what happens next in the series.

Penny Cash is down on her luck. Her dream is to become a teacher, but finding a school with an open position is proving to be difficult. In need of money, Penny accepts a job as a housekeeper at the Monroe Ranch. She's not one to shy away from hard work, but Penny didn't realize how tough it would be to resist the sexy cowboy who's now her boss.
Bad boy Sam Monroe has no intention of ever getting tied down. But from the moment Penny begins working at the ranch, there's nothing he enjoys more than getting under her skin. And before too long, he finds himself flirting with forever. So when Penny's little brother comes to town and gets involved with the wrong people, Sam will stop at nothing to protect the woman he's coming to love--and the family she holds dear.

Penny had a dream job lined up teaching at a local school. She sold everything and moved and now she's left with nothing. Then she's hired on at the Monroe's ranch to cook and be the housekeeper while she waits for another position to open up. It's a godsend to her. Sam Monroe is the bad boy rebel of the Monroe boys.  The start of his life was so bad that when it got good he decided to enjoy every minute of that good. Now though Penny makes him want to slow down and appreciate everything. Penny raised three younger brothers and when her baby brother comes to town and gets himself in some serious debt gambling at pool big sis Penny wants to set him straight. I love this family. I'ts a group of people who aren't blood related but family just the same. It was fun to watch Sam chip away slowly at Penny tough outer shell and get her to open up. This get really intense at the end and had me on the edge of my seat. There was a few places of eye rolling dialog but a wonderful real none the less. Can't wait to see what happens with the last brother Finn.

Daniel Kilcannon, the veterinarian known as the Dogfather, has been widowed for four years. He's spent the time running the largest canine rescue and training facility in North Carolina and pulling some strings to make sure each of his six grown children find a love like the one he lost when his beloved Annie died.

But as the years slip by, Daniel's vow to never love again is starting to make him restless. When a woman who was pivotal to his past arrives in Bitter Bark, he wonders if her appearance is coincidence or the guiding hand of his dearly departed wife...but the truth is neither. She's about to change his life again in ways he could never have imagined. And Daniel isn't sure if his heart -- or his family -- will ever recover from the impact.

I'll start by saying I have loved this series. Each book has been well written and a joy to read. I was a bit apprehensive of this book because Daniel is the patriarch of the family and we've heard some much about his deceased wife Annie I became endeared to her. Kind of hard to accept a new woman in his life. Before Annie though there was Katie. This turned out to be a old love affair renewed. The beginning of the book tell how Katie and Daniel were dating and how Annie came into the picture and what happened to Katie. Then picks up at present time. This is a emotional book to read. It's not as simple as to old lovers reconnecting. That would be to simple really when you can have some twists and turns and secrets. I don't want to give away but i enjoyed the ending although it seemed a bit to easy in the end but hey it's romance as long as everyone is happy right? There's a set up for the cousins of the Kilcannon's too. Going to be fun to see how the series continues. A good stand alone but better if you read the series.

His second chance is his only chance

Parker Drake wants exactly one thing—to fulfill his dream of becoming a doctor. Between his reputation as a rule-breaker and the six years that have passed since his first internship ended in disaster, he knows he’s only getting one shot at a second chance. He’ll do anything to put the past behind him and reach his goal…including work with the gorgeous ex-wife he’s never gotten over losing.

All work and no play make surgeon Charleston Becker a very happy woman. But when she’s tasked with mentoring her ex-husband through his second chance as an intern, her signature calm is put to the test. She’s not interested in re-hashing the heartbreaking circumstances that ended their marriage, and the six years that have passed haven’t made Parker less reckless. The last thing she’s willing to do is trust him—even if she does find him sexier than ever.

But familiarity breeds forgiveness, which then becomes a passion that threatens the careers Parker and Charlie have worked for. Can they turn their second chance into a happy ending? Or is history bound to repeat itself?

Parker and Charlie used to be a married couple meeting and falling in love while working to become doctors during their first year as interns. Everything seemed to be perfect until it all came crashing down. They divorced and went their separate ways with Charlie becoming a excellent surgeon and Parker dropping out and eventually becoming a EMT at a firehouse. Six years later Parker is ready to start the path to his dream of being a doctor again. Imagine his surprise on his first day when Charlie is at the hospital and one of the Dr who will be teaching him. Charlie's tenure at the hospital is temporary as she is filling in for her friend running the Emergency Department while she's on maternity leave.  Things are tense until Parker and Charlie finally talk about what went wrong with their marriage and  misunderstandings come to light. I don't often read medical romances but when offered this one I knew i had to give it a try. I like both Parker and Charlie. They are definitely a opposites attract couple. This classic second chance story had a little of everything and a lot of interesting secondary characters to keep you entertained. A great start to the series.
