Hot Cover Monday! Hate to Love You by Elise Alden

Available now!!

Despite my slutty reputation, I was technically a virgin at eighteen. But it turns out all those sex-ed teachers aren't just trying to scare you. The faint positive on a budget pregnancy test sent me spinning, moments before meeting my sister's snooty new fiancé.
Shaking hands with upper-crusty James was like downing a triple shot of vodka. Dizzy with desire, confused by my body's reaction, and shocked by the possessiveness flashing in his eyes, I deceived him that night and told the world at their wedding reception.
The truth?
I slept with my sister's fiancé. Hot and sweaty, all night long in a room so dark he couldn't tell I wasn't her.
The lie?
Said fiancé is the father of my child. The one I signed over my rights to just before he was born.
That was seven years ago.
It's time to come clean.

ARC book review: When Opposites Attract... (The Barrington Trilogy #1)

Available July 1st 2014

ebook ARC provided by author.

"When I want something, I find a way to make it mine."

After a near-fatal accident, Hollywood hotshot Grant Carter never imagined returning to the equestrian world. But producing a movie about a racing dynasty means he has no choice. Luckily Tessa Barrington, star jockey, provides the distraction he needs—feisty attitude, stunning looks...and a surprising innocence he can't resist.

Tessa won't give herself to just any man, especially a smooth-talking player like Grant. Once filming wraps, how can she trust he'll stick around? He's already keeping secrets. Besides, Tessa has her eye on bigger prizes...unless falling in love is the biggest prize of all, for both of them.

If you want to read a fast exciting and quick paced book that you can finish in one afternoon this is a good place to start. Grant Carter arrives at the Barrington's with a few goals and a few fears. He wants to co-produce this movie about horse racing Icon Damon Barrington. He is also hoping to finally face his fears about being around horses again and maybe even face the thing that caused this fear in the first place. If he can pull it off the movie he  will more than likely get his own production company. What he didn't bargain on was meeting Tessa Barrington the jockey for Barrington's racing horses. She's a champion jockey and is training for some of the biggest races of her life. She lives her life on a schedule taking no time for herself. The last time she let a man get close to her he tried to use her money and name for his own gain.  That guy was a city clicker just like what Grant Carter appears to be.  This story moves at a fast clip but that doesn't mean the Tessa is going to  give in to Grant advances right away. Grant is quite a pushy man for someone who has it written into his contract that he will be fired is caught fraternizing with anyone on the film. He can't seem to help himself when it comes to Tessa. It's interesting to see where this story goes once Tessa and Grant finally get together. How will their individual fears and goals effect their relationship? Can it work out once they finally face those fears? It's exciting to watch how this story winds up to it's ending. Little gut wrenching, little emotional but completely exciting!

Book review: Air Bound (Sister's of the Heart #3) by Christine Feehan

Available now!

For as far back as she can remember, Airiana Ridell has always been aware of her extraordinary gift. She can intuit revealing and illuminating 'patterns' in the air around her-whether in a spray of mist, in billowing clouds, or in the dense swirls of an impenetrable fog. Her abilities led to her placement in a secret government training facility when she was a child, but everything changed after her mother was murdered.

Airiana fled the program, but she couldn't outrun the desperate members of a shadowy cabal who want her, who need her, who will kill to get her. Kidnapped and held aboard a ship bound for dangerous seas, her only chance for rescue is Maxim Prakenskii. He has his reasons for helping her, but he isn't about to reveal them to Airiana. Not yet. Not as the two are drawn together as moth to flame. Not when there are so many secrets yet untold that could shatter the quaint community of Sea Haven and all who reside there..

This is the 3rd Sister of the Heart book in the spin off series from the Drake Sister's. I loved the Drake sisters and am enjoying the Sister's of the Heart series as well. We are getting to see one by one the Prekenskii brother invade Sea Haven for one reason or another to end up with one of the sister's. Maxim makes his appearance briefly when he kidnaps Airiana ( love the play on her name with her ability).  This story takes off fast and is fast paced and action packed.   Maxim realizes pretty quickly who Airiana could mean to him. Scares him to death at first and he struggles off and on with what he should do even after he marks her. Airiana is a strong lead. She's afraid but pushes past that to be a asset in the story instead of a helpless female. Even though there was plenty of danger is the Drake sisters series i think this one is less predictable and more adventurous that the Drake sisters. I do think though that this felt like from page one is was mach speed throughout the story with not enough dips into the characters getting to know each other. It happens toward the end and quickly  and next thing you know the book wraps up. I was hoping for more of the other regular characters than i got. Still a fabulous book for my reading enjoyment. Waiting for book 4 now and wondering like everyone else when Blythe will get her story and we find out why she is already marked and what it means that she is a cousin to the Drakes and no one is sure of her powers. Eek!! Not to late to start reading this series!!

TEN YEARS AGO ONE DEVASTATING NIGHT CHANGED EVERYTHING FOR AUSTIN, HUNTER AND ALEX. NOW THEY MUST EACH PLAY THEIR PART IN THE REVENGE AGAINST THE ONE MAN WHO RUINED IT ALL.

Beneath their scorching mutual attraction, Zoe has a secret, she's also been on the wrong side of Jason Treffen, and she has as much of a taste for revenge as Hunter does!

Again this is a 3 part series written by three different authors. In this one (book 2) The revenge on Jason Treffen continues.  Zoe Brooks is a PR agent that can apparently works miracles and she turns her sights on Hunter and everyone knows he's a lost cause in the football world.  Zoe Brooks is not all she seems though. She may really be a PR guru but she wants to use Hunter to get revenge on Jason Treffen. She was Sarah's friend and knew what was going on ten years ago. She suffered the same things as Sarah but finally got out. She thinks Hunter knew what was going on all those years ago so she's going to use him to get to Jason. Hunter has been in self destruct mode the past ten years. He feels he failed Sarah and so he's been punishing himself. Zoe sparks some life back into him and even though they bounce off one another for a while they are still drawn to each other. Finally Zoe realizes Hunter isn't the enemy and they are both broken in some way. Uniting to get revenge on Jason might be part of the healing they need to be whole again. This book is a bit heavy in the drama but so well done. You feel for the characters and hold your breath hoping they'll figure out they need each other and that they really can be whole again. Very emotional read. Well done. You want to reach out and hug both Zoe and Hunter. On to book three and the hopefully a climatic ending.

ARC Book review: Broslin Bride (Broslin Creek #5) by Dana Marton

ARC ebook provided by author

Available 6/16/2014

The worst time to be charged with murder is:
A. When you have no alibi for the night in question.
B. When you have no memory of the night in question.
C. When you told people you hated the victim.
D. When the detective is the 1st guy you ever slept with--which didn't end well.

Check all of the above for Luanne Mayfair. If it wasn't for bad luck, she wouldn't have any luck at all. Okay, maybe a little luck. As it turns out, Detective Chase Merritt doesn't hold grudges.

He still looks at Luanne just as he did in high school, except he's grown some serious 'hot cop' muscles--very distracting when Luanne is trying to avoid the very law Chase represents.

Is she the killer? Is she being framed? Is she the next victim? As Chase and Luanne race to find some answers, danger and heat ratchet up in this fast-paced romantic mystery that will stop your heart one second, then steal it in the next.

Book 5 in the Broslin Creek series by Dana Martin. While i haven't read every book in this series the ones i have read have been pretty intense. This book takes a little bit of a turn from that. Luanne wakes up to realize she probably killed her boss. The evidence is there in the huge dent in the front of her car and the blood. Unfortunately the night before is a blank. She was at the bar and met a man who bought her a drink. Next thing you know she wakes up in bed and it's morning. Now what?  Chase Merritt was Luanne's first time. That didn't go well they were young and inexperienced. Since then they've avoided each other until Chase has to investigate the murder of Luanne's boss. Luanne has a couple of good reasons to figure out what's going in. Her twin 4 year old sisters. Chase offers to be her friend but it's hard for Luanne to trust. That doesn't keep Chase from stepping in and helping anyway.  This story has it's definite suspense but it also has it's funny bits. At one point you might think you know who the killer is but you'll be wrong. I had a couple of suspects but was never sure who the killer actually was until it was revealed.  A slow build to an intense ending. Once again Dana Marton shows her ability to put out a solid book.

ARC Book review: The Hitwoman and the 7 Cops (Maggie Lee #7)

Available now! ebook ARC provided by author.

All reluctant hitwoman Maggie Lee really wants is to have a calm, normal life.

She doesn’t want to go around killing people for money.

She doesn’t want her sister to be terrified of her ex-pimp.

She doesn’t want her Dad to disappear from the Witness Protection program.

But Maggie rarely gets what she wants.

Instead, she finds herself trying to keep everyone out of trouble.

With the help of her ragtag team of supporters: her semi-psychic friend, a handsome, charming con man, her almost-lover cop/hitman mentor, her curious Southern Belle cat, her haughty lizard, and her sweet, but dumb Doberman, Maggie does her best to stay a step ahead of Law Enforcement, while helping those she loves.

But will Maggie end up being the one who needs to be saved?

Maggie Lee's journey continues in The Hitwoman and the 7 cops. When i got this book i wondered how the heck 7 cops would be involved and pictured a group of 7 but it turns out that's not the case. Maggie can't seem to catch a break. No matter what it seems like every day is fraught with some craziness be it her aunts, her friends or her murder bosses. In this book it seems everyone is out to cause havoc and throw some some begging, or just plain hard persuasion and even some guilt to get Maggie to help them with something. Maggie is pulled in several directions at once and has to do a lot of juggling to get through it all.  Thankfully she gets bit of help from her friends. As in all the books in this series there is a lot going on and many funny moments and well as some teary moments. I can't never figure out where the author is going until i actually get there so that always makes for a interesting reading. There are lots of appearances by cops in this book at least 7 of course but you will have to read the book to see where they all come into play. Very clever Miss Lynn. I hope to see more of Patrick , Maggie's murder mentor and almost lover in the next book.  The biggest question is will they ever really get together!! Arrrggghh!! Everyone wants to know and is so when!???

ARC Book review: Back to Buckhorn (Buckhorn Brothers #7) by Lori Foster

Available now!
ebook provided by publisher through Netgalley

For odd-girl-out Zoey Hodge, the best thing about Buckhorn, Kentucky, was leaving it behind. And now she’s back—at least until she can nurse her mother back to health and hightail it out of there anew. But there’s one person she doesn’t mind seeing again. Garrett Hudson was one of the few who was always kind to her. Now he’s a firefighter—still one of the good guys, but with a sexy alpha charm that’s tempting her inner bad girl.

In school, Zoey was smart, witty and unafraid to be herself. Garrett fell hard back then, and he’s falling even faster now. As far as he’s concerned, there are all kinds of reasons Zoey should stick around. Her pet grooming business. Her mom. And the chance for him to prove that he can be her real-life hero in every way that matters…

This is a great little novella featuring the second generation of the original Buckhorn series. Zoey Hodge came back to take care of her mother. After what happened 10 years ago and the events that made her leave town she isn't expecting a warm welcome. Garrett Hudson liked her back then and was one of the few back then that didn't think she should have left back then. Now that she's back he's got to find ways to make sure she wants to stay. Zoey is a tough smart girl who had take care of herself.  Morgan Hudson, Garrett's father was a big ole alpha male with a big heart in his original book and Garrett is a cheap off the old block.  He stands up for what's right and stays by Zoey's side while she navigates her way back into Buckhorn. When she faces some things from her past he stand up for her as well and they make a great team.  This is a fun fast read and i found it so enjoyable to go back to Buckhorn. My only complaint is i wish we had seen more of the orignal characters and i wish of course that is was longer. Hopefully more of these new stories will be coming.

Find out more about the Buckhorn series. Definitely should check out the four original books and then keep moving for the ones that followed. Find out more about Lori Foster here www.lorifoster.com

ARC Book review: Moon Shine (Takhini Wolves #4) by Vivian Arend

Available now! ebook provided by author

When the past hurts, it bites.

Takhini Wolves, Book 4

Meet Evan Stone. Laid-back, in-control Alpha of the Takhini Wolves. Life’s not perfect, but he’s got a good handle on his world. At least, he did—until the night he ends up in jail, soaking wet and wondering what the hell just happened.

The “what” is Amy Ryba, a vengeful female who’s decided it’s long past time to make Evan pay for his sins. Amy has spent years tracking him down, and the last nine months working in secret to destroy him. She’s ready for anything—except discovering the shifter she hates is her mate.

Suddenly, Evan’s not so very in control, of himself or his pack. And unless Amy can learn to forgive and forget, she’ll have to do the unthinkable: reject her mate.

With two packs watching, one thing is certain. Their personal issues won’t stay personal for long. If Amy and Evan can’t find a way to work together, there won’t be a happily-ever-after for them…or any of the wolves of Whitehorse.

Warning: Contains angsty wolves. Lots of angsty wolves causing explosions of all sorts, playing bad pranks, hacking computers, and having angry sex against a wall or two. Not all at the same time, though, because that would be silly.

I'll admit i have not read the previous three books in this series. I was told that it could be read as a stand alone and it can but i think if you read the first three first this book will be easier to get into.  Evan Stone is this laid back alpha type guy. He runs his pack with authority but also listening to his pack. Then he gets some nasty surprises. Things that tie up the pack resources and cause problems all around. He gets a friend whose a bear shifter to help him look into things.  In the meantime Amy Ryba is the alpha of her pack too but she is also really smart and knows how to use technology. She is also the one plotting some revenge on Evan.  When they finally see each other in person it becomes apparent that they are mates. That's when all the tension between the two gets started. If Evan and Amy want to combine their wolf packs they have to figure out how to get along first. There is something in their pasts that are keeping them apart and not to mention they are both alphas and have different approaches to leading. Then there are the two packs causing mischief as well.  There is a lot of conflict in Amy over Evan she thought she had a good case for revenge until Evan finally tells her what really happened and then she has to struggle with what she's always believed and what really happened years ago. Evan for his part showed a lot of patience and tried to find ways to get her to believe in him. It's kind of hard to like Amy at first but once you find out what she's believed for years you can understand why she was plotting revenge. In the end they finally came together and fought together against a their enemy.

ARC Book review:Avenge Me (Fifth Avenue Trilogy #1) by Maisey Yates

Available June 1st. Free Prequel Available June 1st as well.
ebook provided by publisher through Netgalley

Note Prequel Take Me is available June 1st and is also written by Maisy Yates.

TEN YEARS AGO ONE DEVASTATING NIGHT CHANGED EVERYTHING FOR AUSTIN, HUNTER AND ALEX. NOW THEY MUST EACH PLAY THEIR PART IN THE REVENGE AGAINST THE ONE MAN WHO RUINED IT ALL.

Austin Treffen was born into a world of privilege, but behind its gilded doors lies a corruption so sordid New York's elite would never believe it especially as his infamous philanthropic father is at its core! With everything he believed in shattered, how can Austin take down his father risking his family name and those he loves without any proof.

Until one earth-shattering night with Katy Michaels unlocks not only their deepest, most passionate desires but also the key to bringing Jason Treffen's reign to an end. But with an intense sexual attraction that combines a heady mix of exquisite pleasure and sublime pain, will they satiate their thirst for revenge and each other or lose themselves forever in the darkness?

I've got to start by saying this series is three books written by three different Harlequin authors plus a prequel. I have never read a series like that and i have not read books by any of the three authors writing this series. The covers and the blurbs drew my curiosity in so here we go.

The book starts off with the three guys these books will include at their yearly meeting to discuss what happened ten years ago. This time it's a bit different though when Austin tells them he received a letter through his pro bono law office anonymously. Not many know he's associated with it. Not long after that he meets Katy Michaels and discovers she wrote the letter. What follows is a tangled bit of need in both of them for different reasons. Each has demons only the other can help conquer. While the relationship between the two grows hotter and they grow closer together they work at figuring out just how guilty Austin's father is.  I read this book then went back and read the prequel when it came out June 1st and the start of this series is hot and gut wrenching at times. The events from 10 years ago when Sarah allegedly killed herself effects more than the three men who were once good friends with each other as well as Sarah. We start to find out that many other people were hurt as well. Just how many and how deep the hurt goes for these characters seems to be what we're going to be finding out and if they can make Jason Treffen pay for what he's done. Each book has a ending so no real cliffhanger for the couple in this book but to find out what happens to Jason you'll have to read all three. I think it will be worth it. Amazing sex scenes  laced with high emotions and the need to get revenge.  I for one are excited to see where the next book takes me.
