Book review: Soothing His Madness by Debra Kayn

This is book 3 in Debra Kayn's new biker series. This one amps up the emotional vibe and the danger. Slade is a really great guy but as very alpha type male he thinks he has let down his kids and his girlfriend. The book opens up with him just coming from court and losing custody to his sleazy ex-wife and equally sleazy husband. While working on his court case he had been seeing Taylor and keeping that quiet thinking it might effect his case if it gets out. Things are not going his way so he becomes desperate and does something that could get his boys taken away from his permanently.Taylor does her best to support him but it's like hitting a wall when he won't accept her help. Just when you think they have enough on their hands with the boys the ex-wife and their relationship someone is out to kill them. Who is it? The ex-wife's new husband or a rival motorcycle club or something else. There's a lot going on in this book but it's nice to see some family dynamic with the two boys of Slade's and Taylor and Slade's relationship growing into something permanent. Between the great sex scenes and the pulse pounding  suspense scenes there's plenty to keep you reading and wanting more. Can't wait to see where Ms. Kayn takes us next!

This is book 4 in the Black Nights series. I have not read the first 3 books and although i could see when reading that there were things that went on in previous books that would've helped me better understand this book it really didn't bother me. The Core story for Rock and Vanessa was there and well written. Most of the things were easily figured out just by reading. I would love to go back and read the first three books still. Mostly because i enjoyed this one so much and the writing. Julie Ann Walker writes a story that's fun and exciting with her witty dialogue while at the same time your are suspended in the intrigue, romance and the conflict between the two main characters. The secondary characters compliment the main story as well.  
Here are a few of my favorite lines.

" Why are you grinning at me like a possum eatin' a sweet 'tater?" 

Ozzie piped up with " Good God, You two have got to quit that. You're making my boy parts get bigger!" 

Lastly .

And when he saw her crashing through the undergrowth, dirty, bedraggled, and so beautiful he could barely breathe, making him hotter than a billy goat in a pepper patch just by stomping toward him with unconsciously sensuous gate of hers, he knew he was a lost cause.

Just in those lines you can see the humor the romance and some of the conflict.  Rock is from the south with a hot sexy voice. I would love to hear this book in audio. If the voice work is good it would be phenomenal.  Rock is a man with no future. Branded a traitor and supposedly gone rogue and a possible murderer. The Black Knights don't believe it or don't want to, particularly Vanessa. Vanessa has gotten to know Rock and remembers all the things he has done to help her feel welcome in the group. They set out to find him and then exonerate him. The book is action packed and will take you as the book title states on a Thrill Ride!! 5 out of 5 stars for Thrill Ride by Julie Ann Walker.

Book review: Breathing His Air by Debra Kayn

Tori Baldwin spends all her time traveling the states, running a mobile coffee shack and handing out love advice with every cup. She’s staked her rig in the parking lot of Cactus Cove—a local biker bar by all appearances— and plans to stay put for three months. Just long enough to make some money, without making any friends, before she moves to her next destination as she tries to stay ahead of a painful past.

Rain Brookshire is the leader of the Bantorus motorcycle club, and owner of the Cactus Cove in the small town of Pitnam, Washington. He wants the Lagsturns, a rival-bad-news motorcycle club, to leave town before they infect his town with trouble. 

With bullets flying and the Lagsturns putting on the pressure, the only way to keep Tori safe—since she refuses to leave town—is for Rain to claim her as his woman. She has no idea that Rain’s played his hand for all to see in the biker world. It doesn't help that Tori exhibits the three ideal classifications of his ideal woman—Classy, Sexy, and a total Goof— and he can't help but posture and lay down the law. But, when it appears Tori’s life is in danger, and the Lagsturns are innocent, he isn’t going to let the law stop him from keeping his woman safe.

This is one of the only a few motorcycle club type books i have read. Book starts out with Tori and her mobile coffee shop on wheels parked in the lot from Rain's biker Bar.  Takes all of a handful of pages to meet Rain and his alpha male tendencies. He comes out of the gate in bossy protection mode. Tori  appreciates the protection when a handful of guys from a biker gang try to intimidate her but she's her own boss and Rain needs to understand that. Rain tries to run her off for her own protection but Tori is tougher than he thinks. Soon he realizes something is going on with her. He's attracted to her but he was burned pretty bad by another woman before and he can't decide is she's like that woman or is she is innocent and a bit naive.  Then someone targets her and bad things start happening. Her story starts coming out and she finds eventually the men and woman in Rain's motorcycle club look at her as family and want to protect her.   I had a few problems with some word choices but nothing that bothered me that much i wouldn't recommend the book to others. I loved Rain's character. He's this big alpha guy and here's Tori who is damaged and he's got to balance protecting her with helping her heal. 4 out of 5 stars for Breathing his Air by Debra Kayn.

Book Review: Until there was you by author Kristan Higgins

This was such a good book. I laughed i cried it had it all. Liam Declan Murphy. The name sounds sexy doesn't it. The man is too. Liam had a terrible childhood but a good heart he kept hidden for the most part. Posey got to see glimpses of it when they were young and still in high school. She has a huge crush on Liam but Liam fell for another girl and fell hard.  He broke Posey's heart with some nasty comments about her when she thought that they were at least friends. Fast forward years later and Liam is back in town with his 15 year old daughter and a now a widower. Posey is still struck by him but she is older and wiser and no ones sucker anymore. Liam has changed a lot too. Because of his wife's sickness and death and a near brush with his motorcycle he is now prone to terrible panic attacks and OCD it seems. He is over the top protective of his little girl because he is afraid of losing her and he feels she is the only thing he ever did that was good in his life. Little by little though Liam starts to see who Posey is. He likes her. She's different. Posey is wary but interested and then hell, she falls in love.  Then a series of bad things happen that throws Liam into a bit of a tail spin and he throws it all away. Now what? This book had great characters. A few i wanted to slap silly a few dozen times but real and believable. I seriously did alot of laughing and i usually didn't see that coming when i did. Yeah, yeah i cried a bit too. Sigh..... lol The end was just to damn sweet. The last line really got me. This is my 2nd Kristan Higgins book and the best of the two so far. I love love loved Posey. I could totally be friends with a woman like that. Lots of sass and loyalty. 5 out of 5 Modokker Book Pick stars.
