Book review: The Best Man (Blue Heron #1) by Kristan Higgins

Faith Holland left her hometown after being jilted at the altar. Now a little older and wiser, she's ready to return to the Blue Heron Winery, her family's vineyard, to confront the ghosts of her past, and maybe enjoy a glass of red. After all, there's some great scenery there....

Like Levi Cooper, the local police chief-and best friend of her former fiancé. There's a lot about Levi that Faith never noticed, and it's not just those deep green eyes. The only catch is she's having a hard time forgetting that he helped ruin her wedding all those years ago. If she can find a minute amidst all her family drama to stop and smell the roses, she just might find a reason to stay at Blue Heron, and finish that walk..

Kristan Higgins writes a good book but this one just outdid that for me and i would call it fantastic awesome book. This was just what i needed to shake off the winter blues. Poor Faith was kind of misunderstood as a teenager. She came across a bubbly airhead sometimes. A goody goody too. In reality she was trying to make up for something bad she thinks was her fault. She fell in love with a guy she thought was perfect and was ready to spend her life with right up until he outted himself as gay right at the alter. Her life seemingly destroyed she ran away to San Francisco for 3 years. She's back now though to help find her dad a new wife and to build something on the families vineyard. She plans on stays a couple months tops. Jeremy the guy she was supposed to marry is still there as the towns doctor. He wants to be friends because he still does love Faith. She tries to deal with that and Levi Jeremy's best friend who is also the guy who outted him. At the time it felt like a betrayal. He always seemed to hate her and gave her nothing but contempt really. Now though it feels different. He's different, she's different. This book has a little of everything. I did a lot of giggling. Some crying and some laughing. There is so much more going on in this book that you think at first. Faith has some deep hurts you don't see right away. Levi has had feeling for Faith for way longer that you think as well. They both can be a little annoying at times but it's a defense against getting hurt as they both have had that happen to them before.  When your hurt deeply it's hard to trust and to believe and both Faith and Levi have to struggle their way through to get to each other and to something that will last. One of the best books I have read in a while. 5 out of 5 stars for The Best Man by Kristan Higgins. Read it!!!

Book review: Somebody to Love by Kristan Higgins

SOMEBODY TO LOVE

I've read a small handful of Kristan Higgins books so far. All pretty good but this one i think i like the best. Parker Welles was rich and then she wasn't. In the blink of a eye literally she finds out she must move out of the mansion she's been living in and all her money in her trust fund and that of her young sons is gone. All of it gone. Her dad is going to prison and the feds are taking everything that's not in her name. She finds out she owns a house Maine and she's hoping that she can fix it up some flip and she'll be OK. Turns out the place is a dump. Really the place is loaded down with stuff. Turns the aunt that left it to her might have been a bit of a hoarder. James Cahill is her dads personal lawyer. Where Harry Welles goes he goes. He's the one who has to tell Parker who appears to hate him that everything is gone and she has no place to live.  Both Parker and James had traumatic events happen to them as kids that has damaged their hearts and souls. James decides he needs to help Parker with her house. He's got the skills as a carpenter he learned  from his dad so he shows up and moves into the house with Parker and they start fixing it up to sell.  What follows is a eventually a hot summer romance that maybe could be something more. This was a great book. I laughed and cried dammit. I felt a lot of things and i guess that's the point. All the characters were great. Lots of personalities to deal with and lots of changes for the main characters. This is a book that if i had a solid block of time to read i would read it in one sitting. I just wanted to see what would happen next. There are a few mysteries that are hinted at throughout the book that you can guess about before they are revealed. James and Parker each seems to have a separate journey to take to get to the point of taking another journey together. This was just a really full book with so much story. I would definitely recommend this book to friends and will. 5 out of 5 Modokker Book Pick stars for Somebody to Love. You'll laugh and often and cry too.

This was such a good book. I laughed i cried it had it all. Liam Declan Murphy. The name sounds sexy doesn't it. The man is too. Liam had a terrible childhood but a good heart he kept hidden for the most part. Posey got to see glimpses of it when they were young and still in high school. She has a huge crush on Liam but Liam fell for another girl and fell hard.  He broke Posey's heart with some nasty comments about her when she thought that they were at least friends. Fast forward years later and Liam is back in town with his 15 year old daughter and a now a widower. Posey is still struck by him but she is older and wiser and no ones sucker anymore. Liam has changed a lot too. Because of his wife's sickness and death and a near brush with his motorcycle he is now prone to terrible panic attacks and OCD it seems. He is over the top protective of his little girl because he is afraid of losing her and he feels she is the only thing he ever did that was good in his life. Little by little though Liam starts to see who Posey is. He likes her. She's different. Posey is wary but interested and then hell, she falls in love.  Then a series of bad things happen that throws Liam into a bit of a tail spin and he throws it all away. Now what? This book had great characters. A few i wanted to slap silly a few dozen times but real and believable. I seriously did alot of laughing and i usually didn't see that coming when i did. Yeah, yeah i cried a bit too. Sigh..... lol The end was just to damn sweet. The last line really got me. This is my 2nd Kristan Higgins book and the best of the two so far. I love love loved Posey. I could totally be friends with a woman like that. Lots of sass and loyalty. 5 out of 5 Modokker Book Pick stars.
