Book review: Bare It All (Love Undercover #2) by Lori Foster

 photo 13562581_zps4fa2623c.jpg

Available April 30, 2013

"A cop's craving to know more about the woman next door could prove fatal in the steamy new novel from New York Times bestselling author Lori Foster"

As the person responsible for taking down a brutal human trafficker, Alice Appleton fears retaliation at every turn. No one knows about her past, which is exactly how she prefers it...until the sexy cop next door comes knocking.

Detective Reese Bareden thinks he knows what makes women tick, but his ever-elusive neighbor keeps him guessing like no other. Is his goal to unmask Alice's secrets? Or protect her from a dangerous new threat? One thing is certain: their chemistry is a time bomb waiting to explode. And with no one to trust but each other, Reese and Alice are soon drawn into a deadly maze of corruption, intrigue and desire-and into the line of fire...

Bare it All is book 2 in the Love Undercover series. I am really excited about this series. It's a branch off the Men with Walk the Edge of Honor series. Alice is a secondary character from Trace Rivers book Trace of Fever. We met Reese in book one and for me he was a bit of a mystery. At the end of that book his apartment was the scene of crime so he's without a apartment but luckily Alice, his neighbor takes him in. He's intrigued by her and her secrets and decides he needs to figure her out. It doesn't take long for the attraction to become obvious for both of them.  I will admit i could not remember who Alice was. It's been a while since i read Trace of Fever. I was told when she explains some of her history to Reese i would remember. It came back really fast when she did. Alice had got a lot of secrets. Reese needs to know those secrets and because of some of them Alice inadvertantly finds herself in danger.  It takes most of the book to get all the details out and when it happens there is a character that makes an appearance i wanted to cheer for.Not going to tell you who it but you can probably guess. Rowdy gets a decent size chunk of this book and you get some insight into him. Some of it i liked some of it i didn't. You also get a tiny peak at Dash who is Logan's brother from book one.   I enjoyed this book from start to finish. Really excited for the next two book which will focus on Rowdy and Dash according to the author's website. Thoroughly enjoying the series. 4 out of 5 stars for Bare it All by Lori Foster.

Book review: What Chris Wants (novella, Men who Walk the Edge of Honor) by Lori Foster

Photobucket

When the going gets tough, the tough turn to Chris Chapey. As the right-hand man to a group of take-no-prisoners mercenaries, Chris can organize a top secret rescue mission with his eyes closed. But when it comes to his personal life, Chris is the one who needs a little help.

His problem: Matt Houser. Chris can’t deny his attraction to Matt, but Matt has no idea what Chris’s job really entails and how much it means to him. Matt challenges Chris to change his life—and make a place for him in it. Can Chris risk telling him the truth?
Look for more titles in the Men Who Walk the Edge of Honor series available now from Lori Foster and Harlequin HQN: A Perfect Storm, Savor the Danger, Trace of Fever and When You Dare.

If you have been reading this series you know who Christ Chapey is. Chris is introduced in the first book in this series. He's kind of Dare MacIntosh's right hand man. He runs everything in the background and he's damn good at his job. Thing is his job requires absolute discretion and secrecy. That means have a love interest to a certain degree is out. Matt Houser is his love interest in this novella. We meet him in book two when he give Priss (Trace's love interest) a make over.  Both are frustrated. Chris because he can't tell Matt exactly what he does for a living and Matt because he can't seem to get past the walls Chris has to find out what's going on and why he's being kept at arms length away. This is a short 4 chapter novella but it nicely wraps up Chris's story a bit and you get to see the characters from the 4 previous full size books. Lori Foster has said she's never done a M/M books but i think she did a nice job with this novella. I think a lot of her readers were thrilled to see it and i would be one of those. Nicely done! Felt like a reunion with a bonus! 4 out of 5 stars! I hate to see the series end but this was a great way to end it.

Book review: Run the Risk (Love Undercover series book 1) by Lori Foster

Photobucket

Run the Risk

September 25, 2012

When Detective Logan Riske goes undercover to find Pepper Yates, a potential link to his best friend’s unsolved murder, he vows to gain her cooperation by any means necessary. But the elusive beauty is more suspicious—and in far more danger—than he expected. And the last thing Logan needs is to start caring for her...

Pepper has spent years dodging the corrupt club owner who will stop at nothing to keep her silenced. She can trust no one, not even the handsome new “construction worker” who’s moved in next door. The heat between them is undeniable. But will surrendering to passion bring her the safety she so desires—or will her feelings for Logan draw them both into a killer’s crosshairs?

This is book 1 in Lori Foster's brand new heavily anticipated series Love Undercover! I was really excited to get the chance to read and review it. I loved her Men who Walk the Edge of Honor series so i was hoping that this series would be just as good. Logan Risk is trying to worm his way into Pepper Yates life in the hopes of finding her brother who he thinks is the key to finding out who murdered his friend 2 years ago. He won't take no for a answer in his many attempts to get her to let him in. Pepper though is also undercover but in a different way. She's hiding in plain site from the man who would easily use her to get to her brother Rowdy. Rowdy seems like a bad guy but most of the timebut he's the only person who ever loved Pepper and has looked out for her the best he could all these years. Things kind of meander along in this book at a nice leisurely pace until everyone's cover is blown. From there the pace picks up and the action portion of the book takes off. That's when i really had to sit up my seat and pay attention. I love that you really can't figure out who is the bad guy but you can speculate a lot and hang on for the ride to get your answers. It's a very exciting and crazy fun ride! You get a introduction to some great characters for the future books in Rowdy, Dash and Reese and you can see that they are going to be a lot of fun to read. Very entertaining book. I loved both Pepper and Logan. Can't wait for book 2 already! 5out of 5 Modokker Book Picks for Run the Risk by Lori Foster.

Modokker's visits Lori Foster's Readers and Authors weekend (RAGT2012)

Wow so i got to go to my first readers and author's shindig. Can't call it a conference it was way to much fun to be that. My weekend trip started Friday morning about 8:30 AM when i left my small town in Michigan to head out to West Chester, Ohio which is just barely north of Cincinnati. After about 15 minutes in the car i was bored with my own company but about 6 and 1/2 hours later i made it to the Marriott in West Chester in one piece.  I was supposed to be meeting a old Army friend. Not that i consider either of us old or anything. lol My friend Sarah was coming in from Tennessee and was 3 hours in driving time behind me. OK so there i stood. Didn't know anyone or anything. Babe in the woods and all that. Couldn't find my way out of paper bag right then. I look around at the people standing all over and think OK now what? I turn around and there sits the lovely Jules Bennett. Who miracles of miracles recognizes me from my twitter picture. A friendly face in the sea of faces. After a few minutes chatting with Jules she's got to go and so as I'm saying goodbye  there walking towards me is Jill Shalvis who also recognizes me. I was told by many i look just like my twitter pic. I must look ok because no one ran away screaming. Chatted with Jill for a few minutes( who BTW is one of my fav authors. You should totally read her books). OK so yeah i have 2 more hours i think at this point to kill. I sit on this cute round couch chair and tweet on my iPhone. If your at #RAGT2012 and if that's possible bored I am sitting in front of the doors. Come say hello! Like 2 seconds later the wonderfully funny Dee Carney comes up and says HI! OK this is when i realize this is going to OK. It's going to be fun. As 6 pm is coming up and everyone is registered with their cute name badges and making their way into the ballroom for the pizza party i still have not seen Sarah ( my friend who met me there) and so i am standing there thinking,"um OK there for over 400 people in this ballroom and i don't see anyone i know to sit with, time to go hideout for a bit". Yes i thought that. Then the lovely Virna DePaul walks up and asks me if i need help. Isn't she sweet? She found me a seat at a really great table with some authors and readers and i had some really good conversation waiting for my friend  who finally gets there around 6 pm. No girlish screams because #1 the room is crowded with people and we don't want anyone thinking we're nuts and #2 we were starving and needed to eat pronto. It had been 21 years or so  since we last saw each other but it was like no time had passed and we chatted like girlfriends who know each other always do.

Anyway cutting to chase as they say. It was a really great weekend. I met tons of authors, readers and fellow bloggers, ate drank and was merry! Yes i did! It was a very comfortable setting once i got into the swing of things and everyone was friendly and nice and fun. Lori Foster and Duffy Brown and their families put a lot into this weekend. They have lots of help from volunteers too. I hope they all think it's well worth the effort but it's the best time I've had in ages. My friend Sarah and i plan to make it a yearly thing for us. I'm going to add some pics below. I didn't take as many as I should've and i have been kicking myself every since but here you go.

Book review: The Winston Brother by Lori Foster

Photobucket

The Winston Brothers: Tangled Sheets/Tangled Dreams/Tangled Images

All four Winston brothers are scorchingly handsome, sensually passionate- and stubbornly proud. Left alone in the world after their parents' deaths, they learned to depend on each other-and to cherish the bond that holds them together. Now, with their disarming charm and sexy smiles, they will inspire readers' wildest, most sensuous fantasies- and will surely become the men of their dreams.

This book has 3 novella's for three of the Winston Brothers Mack, Colee and Chase with a sneak peak at Zane's story at the end. This is a older book originally released in 2001 i believe. I'm always trying to catch up on the back lists of authors i really enjoy. I walked up to my bookshelf and snatched this one off the shelf
the other day and began to read. It was a quick one afternoon of reading.

First up is Tangled sheets which is Cole Winston's story. Cole is the oldest and took over raising his brothers when he parents were killed. He bought a bar to earn a income and all the brothers work there. Sophie is the boutique owner up the street. Looking and acting prim and proper she comes to the bar every afternoon for hot chocolate and to unwind. Secretly she is watching Cole and wanting him. She thinks he's out of her league though and isn't sure how to go after him. Little does she know Cole wants her too. The bar is hosting a Valentine's day photo contest. Winner would get a night on the town with Cole. Just what Sophie wants. She comes up with a crazy scheme of pretending she has a twin sister who is much wilder than her. Someone Cole would want. She justs wants one night with Cole because she doesn't think she can get anymore than that. If she only knew what Cole thought of her. It gets fun seeing how it all plays out. The brothers are great. Sophie and her friend are pretty cool. All in all a fun little story.

Next up is Tangles Dreams which is Chase Winston's story. This one is set at Halloween time and he suddenly finds himself attracted to Allison Barrow. His sister in law Sophie ( from Tangles Sheets) best friend. This one has a bit of a paranormal twist. There are ghosts in Allison's house. She can talk to them and see them if they choose. They are a friendly couple too. Chase finds suddenly though that he can hear Allison's thoughts and that her thoughts are all about him. Doesn't bother him because his thoughts are about her too. It gets interesting with the ghosts the other boyfriend and some jewels. Oh and a gun. Little off the wall but a fun read none the less.

Last in this book is Tangles Images Mack's story the baby of the family. Mack is a school teacher or he is trying to be one. He is doing his student teaching and having a hard time with the school's administrator. While he waits to see if he gets approved for teaching he finds himself doing a favor for his 2 sister in laws, Sophie and Allison.( From the previous two novella's) They want him to model some men's lingerie for a photographer so they can make a catalog for their boutique.  He find himself stuck doing it and gets a surprise when the photographer in question turns out to be old classmate from college that he had the hots for. Jessica Wells is divorced with a 13 year old daughter. She gave up her college chance when she got pregnant and married years ago.She ignored him at school because he was so carefree and she had to struggle to get through. Women through themselves at him and then there was the fact that she was several years older than him. Mack doesn't let her off the hook though. He tempts her with all the provocative little scraps of underthings he has to wear for the photo shoot and she can't resist eventually. It's fun to watch Mack try to get Jessica to see age is only a number. Great little fun read.

If your looking for a relaxing fun and a bit crazy off the wall read. This is is. Plus 4 HOT Winston brothers. What's not to like? I sat and read this in one afternoon. No hard thinking just a lot of reading enjoyment. 4 out of 5 Modokker Book Pick stars for The Winston Brothers. Now i have to go find and read Zane's book. Brother number 4! Book review: A Perfect Storm (Book 4 in the Men Who Walk the Edge of Honor series) by Lori Foster

Photobucket

A Perfect Storm

April, 2012

He never saw her coming…

Spencer Lark already knows too many secrets about Arizona Storm, including the nightmare she survived and her resulting trust issues. But in order to expose a smuggling ring—and continue avenging his own tragic past—the bounty hunter reluctantly agrees to make Arizona a decoy. Yet nothing has equipped him for her hypnotic blend of fragility and bravery, or for the protective instincts she stirs in him.

Arizona wants to reclaim her life, which means acting as bait to lure the enemy into a trap. Sure it's dangerous, especially with a partner as distractingly appealing as Spencer. But as their plan—and their chemistry—shifts into high gear, Arizona may discover there's an even greater risk in surrendering her heart to a hero….

A Perfect Storm is the final book in the "Men that Walk the Edge of Honor" series by Lori Foster. I was soooo hoping she was going to do a book  on Spencer and Arizona after reading  "Savor the Danger" ( book 3). There was so much i felt i needed to find out about both Spencer and Arizona and their chemistry was like WOW huge!  I got my wish when she announced there would be a book 4 with Spencer and Arizona. You also get a dose of Jackson, Trace and Dare along with their wives and the sexy Chris.  You can't help but fall in the love with the characters in this series. Especially the bad ass Alpha male men! Tough and hot and caring and gentle when it counts. What's not to love? In this book Spencer is still feeling his protective tendencies for Arizona and fighting the pull to feel so much more. She is just 21 and hurt and damaged in so many ways but so damn tough and kick ass too. It's a heck of a mix and Spencer's not sure what to do with it all. Arizona is attracted to Spencer but not sure how to navigate all those feeling as her life has never been the norm for regular typical girls growing up. Spencer has to try to navigate the waters with her as he tries to help her get past all the barriers and misconceptions she has about herself. All the while though she insists that she is going to continue her vengeance on human traffickers and takes on a nasty ring of traffickers on her own. Can Spencer keep Arizona safe while healing her and helping her find her way? Must read the book to find out but it's a great journey. I feel A Perfect Storm had a great pace. The relationship between Spencer and Arizona progresses throughout the book and you just love Spencer and want to give the big lug a big hug and kiss for all he tries to do for Arizona while trying to deny he is giving her his heart too. I have to mention the cover for this book is so Spencer. Sexy as hell, broad and tall and 6'5". Love when a cover does the book justice.  I mean holy smokes look at it? Lori Foster has the best covers for this series and this one just puts icing on the cake. 5 out of 5 Modokker Book Pick stars for A Perfect Storm by Lori Foster.

Book review: Savor the Danger by author Lori Foster

Savor the Danger is the third book in the "Men who walk the edge of Honor" series by Lori Foster. This is my favorite of the three so far. I say so far because there is going to be a book four in this series. I won't say who that book will be about because i don't want to give anything away from Savor the Danger. If you buy the paperback version i know there is a excerpt to book four because i read it there. The characters for book four get introduced in Savor the Danger though.  How about we start with a blurb now.

Savor the Danger by Lori Foster
June 28th, 2011

The one woman he couldn't have was the only woman he desired…

She may be aloof, and more pretty than gorgeous, but Alani Rivers is the kind of woman a hot-blooded mercenary can't forget, no matter how hard he tries. So when Jackson Savor wakes up next to the naked, sleeping beauty—with no memory of what happened—he knows he's been drugged… even if Alani doesn't.

After she was kidnapped, Alani swore she'd never trust another man again. Still, something about this strong, sexy hero with the tender touch makes her want to believe him. As Jackson hunts downs a mysterious intruder, he swears he'll move heaven and earth to keep Alani safe. But what really happened that night? And will the truth bring them closer than they ever thought possible—or put Alani squarely in harm's way again?

This is one of those books that i knew I'd love the first chapter into it. Poor Jackson Savor has a conundrum. He wakes up in his bed with a beautiful woman in his bed but he can't remember how he ended up there. Once he figures out it's Alani Rivers in his bed his problem becomes decidedly bigger than he at first thought since he's been after her for months. If you read When You Dare  the first book in this series you know that Alani was the victim of a kidnapping by human traffickers. Since then she's been treated with kid gloves by Dare and her brother Trace( Trace if Fever book2). Jackson doesn't think she's that breakable so he treats her differently. Jackson figures out he was somehow drugged and that's why he can't remember the previous day and nights activities. Alani has stormed out hurt he doesn't remember what happened but he tracks her down and talks her into giving them a try. Things get tricky from here as her former boyfriend doesn't want to give her up and then it seems like someone is after Jackson or Alani or maybe bothof them and Jackson and Alani must fight for their lives while falling in love and giving up secrets of their pasts to each other. This book was soooo good I'd recommend it to anyone that's looking for a good summer read. It's got action, love, lust and lots of humorous lines to give you laughs throughout. I love that you get a good dose of Trace and Dare again with small appearances by their now wives Priss and Molly and of course their friend Chris is adorable as ever. You get two newcomers in this book as well bounty hunter Spencer Lark and Arizona Storm. Not going to tell you about them though you'll have to read the book.. I give Savor the Danger 5 out of 5 Modokker Book Pick stars.  This book had it all for me. Review: The Guy Next Door by authors Lori Foster, Susan Donovan and Victoria Dahl

The Guy Next Door is a anthology with three great books inside. Kind of like a chance to try out possibly 3 new to you authors. This is why these books are fun. I have read Lori Foster before she is one of my fav authors as well as Victoria Dahl. I have only read one of Victoria Dahl's series and that's the deliciously funny Tumble Creek series. This is the first time that I've read Susan Donovan that i know of though. I only knew that Lori Fosters novella is this is a intro to her Men Who Walk the Edge of Honor series so i had to hurry up and read that so i could be ready for that first book in that series. I've read and reviewed the first two in that  series here, When You Dare and Trace of Fever on the blog. I read that first then set it aside for a bit to read other stuff. I am so happy i got back to it this past weekend and read the second two books in this because wow good stuff!

Victoria Dahl's contribution introduces you to a new series that she is coming out with this fall called The Donovan Brothers Brewery series. I have to tell you her novella Just a Little Taste is just that a little taste! Wow she reels you in and  leaves you hanging. What a  tease! Leaves you something to look forward to this fall though so that's great right? Eric Donovan is always the responsible brother. In a moment of insanity he pretends he's his brother Jamie so he can have a one night stand with a gorgeous women who doesn't realize he's not the wild brother. This story is continued later this fall.

Susan Donovan is a new to me author. Love when i get to read one of those and love what i read. Her contribution to The Guy Next  door is called Gail's Gone wild.  In this one 36 year old Gail decides to go along with her 17 yr old daughter and her friend on spring break to Key West. What she didn't expect is to find a hot sexy 38 year old Jesse next door to her rental. Jessie who has burned by women before is really JD Batista (Jessie to friends and family) but Gail doesn't recognize him as the best selling author of thrillers that he is. When he finally comes clean can things work out between the two of them after spring break?? This one was so much fun. Gail gets to experience a freedom of life she never got to before since she got pregnant and married young and has had responsibilities.Divorced for a while now and her daughter almost grown it's time to let loose some right?  It was great to see this story unfold and see how the 17 year old daughter reacts to her mom getting a life!

Here some little bits from each novella

Lori Foster Ready, Set, Jett!
A vacation from her no-strings romance with her sexy next-door-neighbor. That's what Natalie Alexander needs to get her head—and heart—together. But her solo trip south turns into a disaster—until gorgeous Jett Sutter turns up with another challenge.
You can read a excerpt for this book on Lori's website by clicking here. Make sure you check out the series Men Who Walk the Edge of Honor that this novella introduces you to.

Susan Donovan Gails' Gone Wild
Single mom Gail Chapman insists on chaperoning her teenage daughter's spring-break trip to Key West. But she never expects to face temptation—in the hunky form of Jesse Batista, the mysterious man in the cottage next door.

Victoria Dahl Just a Little Taste!
The Donovan Brothers Brewery series, set in a family-owned microbrewery in Boulder, Colorado, opens with the novella "Just One Taste" in the anthology The Guy Next Door.
Eric Donovan is the oldest of the family, and he's always responsible and well-behaved. After all, he has to set an example for his brother and sister, right? Well...

All-work-and-no-play businessman Eric Donovan won’t be distracted by a “businesswoman” who’s all wrong for him. Beth Cantrell owns a woman’s erotica shop! And she has a juicy little secret. Can she tempt him to put pleasure before business for once?

"Just One Taste" is the start of his story with Beth Cantrell. What happens when they meet up again later? You'll find out in Real Men Will, out in November! Find out more about The Donovan Brothers Brewery series on Victoria Dahl's website by clicking here .

I have to say that before i read this the reviews i heard about were pretty mixed but i loved all three. Susan Donovan's novella was a great funny refreshing read and Victoria Dahl reminded me who i loved her writing and Lori Foster what can i say i love romantic suspense and her novella puts your foot in the door to a great series of books so far with The Men who Walk the Edge of Honor series. I give amply titled book The Guy Next door 4 and 1/2 Modokker Book Pick Stars.

Book review: Trace of Fever by author Lori Foster

Trace of Fever is the second book in the " Men who walk the edge of Honor" series by author Lori Foster.  This series gets introduced with the novella "Ready Set, Jett" in book "The Guy Next door"  Lori Foster did with fellow authors, Victoria Dahl and Susan Donovan. The first full book "When you Dare" came out April 26th and you can find my review for that book here on my blog as well. "Trace of Fever" will be out in bookstores and online May 31st. How about we start with my favorite the back cover blurb shall we?

Caught in the crossfire of vengeance and desire...

Undercover mercenary Trace Rivers loves the adrenaline rush of a well-planned mission. First he'll earn the trust of corrupt businessman Murray Coburn, then gather the proof he needs to shut down the man's dirty smuggling operation. It's a perfect scheme—until Coburn's long-lost daughter saunters in with her own deadly plan for revenge.

With a smile like an angel and fire in her eyes, Priscilla Patterson isn't who she seems to be. But neither is the gorgeous bodyguard who ignites all her senses. Joining forces to plot Coburn's downfall, Priss and Trace must fight the undeniable heat between them. For one wrong move, one lingering embrace will expose them to the wrath of a merciless opponent….

The book opens with Trace undercover working for Murray Coburn who is in the human trafficking business. Trace's sister was kidnapped by another human trafficker in "When you Dare" and recovered by his best friend Dare so he's on a mission to rid the world of other traffickers. Right now his sights are set on Murray. Unfortunately for him someone else is after Murray too. Priscilla Patterson has a plan to get Murray. She wants him dead. Years ago her mom was caught by Murray and raped repeatedly by him and his friends. She was the result. Her mom managed to get away but was never the same and Priscilla or Priss as she is called never had a normal childhood. They had to always stay under the radar in case Murray came looking for them. Priscilla's mom is passed away now and so she decides it's time to come after Murray. Murray is a nasty evil man and so is everyone around him so Trace decides he is going to protect Priscilla and try to get her out of the situation all together no matter what Priscilla thinks.

I liked this book. I started reading it in the evening and hated to put it down for bed. Soon as i could i picked it right up to finish it. I loved Trace and Priscilla. Priscilla proves she's just as tough as Trace. She doesn't come to the party so to speak empty handed. She's smart and intuitive and prepared herself with self defense techniques and apparently how to handle a gun before coming after Murray. I have to admit i do not care for the name Priscilla or Priss for that matter but that's just me. You meet Chris Dare's gay male friend in the last book and you get some of him in this one too ( love Chris) but you get to meet Chris's friend Matt who is a hair stylist in this one too. Of course Dare and Molly are in this one and you meet Jackson Savor the hero in the next book. I've really enjoyed the characters so far in this series. Can't wait for the next book "Savor the Danger" that comes out July 2011. For this book you'll have to read and see who eventually gets to kill Murray. I'll tell you this it's now who you expect. I give "Trace of Fever" 4 and 1/2 Modokker Book Pick stars. Your can preorder this book now wherever it's sold in paperback and ebook formats.
