Book review: Love Irresistibly (FBI / US Attorney #4) by Julie James

 photo love_zps945ad3c4.jpg

Available now!
HE’S USED TO GETTING WHAT HE WANTS…

A former football star and one of Chicago’s top prosecutors, Assistant U.S. Attorney Cade Morgan will do anything to nail a corrupt state senator, which means he needs Brooke Parker’s help. As general counsel for a restaurant company, she can get a bug to the senator’s table at one of her five-star restaurants so the FBI can eavesdrop on him. All Cade has to do is convince Brooke to cooperate—and he’s not afraid to use a little charm, or the power of his office, to do just that.

AND WHAT HE WANTS IS HER.

A savvy businesswoman, Brooke knows she needs to play ball with the U.S. Attorney’s office—even if it means working with Cade. No doubt there’s a sizzling attraction beneath all their sarcastic quips, but Brooke is determined to keep things casual. Cade agrees—until a surprising turn of events throws his life into turmoil, and he realizes that he wants more than just a good time from the one woman with whom he could fall terrifyingly, irresistibly in love . .

This is book 4 in the FBI/Us Attorney series. I have read the previous books and all can stand on their own so no need to worry if you have not read the others yet. Assistant US Attorney Cade Morgan meets his match when he meets Brooke Parker. A lawyer herself and impressive at her job as general Counsel for Sterling restaurants. Brook is a workaholic and relationships don't seem to work out for her because of it. Cade is pretty tough too as a prosecutor he's at the top of his game. It's one of his cases that brings Brooke and Cade together. Fireworks fly when these two get together. They each have their issues to work out but the romance isdefinately there as they figure it out and each other. The pacing is even and the sex scenes are to die for.  Julie James knows how to rock it when she writes and this book definitely rocks. A great overall read all the way around. 4 out of 5 stars for Love Irresistibly by Julie James

Book review: Blaze (book 2 in Phoenix Rising series) by Joan Swan

Photobucket

Blaze
Release date September 25th 2012

The hotter they come, the harder they fall…

With a man like him, every mission becomes personal…

Ever since FBI agent Keira O’Shay started tracking a young boy named Mateo, she’s felt a connection even her empathic abilities can’t explain. She needs to save Mateo from the cult leader holding him hostage. Nothing can interfere with that—not even the reappearance of Luke Ransom, the hot-as-hell fire captain she’s regretted walking out on for three long years.

Losing Keira left Luke vulnerable—in every way. When they were together, the powers each possesses were mysteriously enhanced. But it’s the sexy, surprising woman beneath the tough exterior that Luke’s really missed. Even if she betrayed him utterly. And even if agreeing to help her uncover a government conspiracy means watching his life and his heart go up in flames again…

This is book 2 in Joan Swan's debut book series Phoenix Rising. I have to admit i missed book 1 but am on my way to remedying that sad fact right now. Fever is book one and then Blaze the current release is book 2. You can read them as a stand alone as i had no trouble reading this one by it'self and not feeling to deprived having not read book 1. From what i could gather there were 8 people on a Fire fighting team. There was a explosion in a warehouse that forever changes them and one of them is presumed dead. It's touched on here and there in book 2 so like i said your not out in the cold with no way of figuring out what's happened previously. In the aftermath though all remaining who were in the explosion were left with weird powers.  Keira and Luke used to be together before the explosion that changed them. They haven't seen each other in three years since Keira left to pursue the FBI after Luke gave her a ultimatum. She's a crack shot now. Best in the nation. Keira and Luke, who is now with the ATF run into each other on a mission. One that has gotten kind of personal for Keira. She's tracking a boy and the feelings she gets when touching his picture makes her feel all kind of things she's not sure about. Problem is the boy doesn't speak English so what she hears she can't understand. Keira's power is hearing things. Getting a feel for people by touching their picture or something of theirs or just being in the vicinity. Luke skin is resistant to fire and from bullets apparently. Their powers get ramped up when they are together. Keira's been looking for a little boy by the name of Mateo. She finally finds him but he only speaks Greek so there is a big language barrier. Without that barrier the story would  more simply unfold but nothing is supposed to be that easy in a romantic suspense. lol Now that she has him she's got to figure out the mystery of who he is and what  experiments have been done on him, who he belongs to and who is out to get him back. Lots of mystery to go hand in hand with the past paced action and suspense. This book is filled with intense action but balances out with casual moments and fun witty dialogue. Ms Swan lets you feel like your in on the action like these are real people. You get Luke and Keira's story but you also get glimpses of everyone else from the team. This is what makes you feel invested in the series. I know i want to read more and see what happens next! PS once you read these books you figure out how aptly the books are named for the characters. 5 out of 5 Modokker Book Picks for Blaze by Joan Swan

Book Review: Sweet Talk by Julie Garwood

Photobucket

Available starting today 8/7/2012

Sweet Talk

When FBI agent Grayson Kincaid first encounters Olivia MacKenzie, she makes quite an impression.

The beautiful, tough, young attorney has stumbled into the middle of an FBI sting operation and has reduced it to chaos. Months of surveillance and careful planning down the drain, Kincaid's partner is furious and lets Olivia know that she's ticked off the wrong guy. After all, he's FBI.

Olivia isn't intimidated by his partner's bullying because she's something even scarier...she's IRS. And working for the IRS isn't for the faint of heart. She's on the trail of an elaborate Ponzi scheme, one that threatens to ruin the lives of naive and unsuspecting victims, and one she has personal reasons to be angry about. But after she asks questions of the wrong people, her life is suddenly endangered. She's accustomed to fighting for the underdog but being vulnerable herself is a very different story. Smart enough to know when she need reinforcements, she looks to Grayson Kincaid.

Together they make an excellent team to fight corruption, but Olivia is also fighting the immediate and intense attraction she feels for Agent Kincaid, and that may be a battle she is bound to lose.

Anyone who knows me know i am a huge Julie Garwood fan. It makes reading her new books a lot of fun but a little scary too. Of course i hope to love them but there is the chance i won't. I really like how Julie connects her books. In this new one they are at one of the Hamilton hotels and Grayson knows and speaks to Aidan from one of her earlier books Murder List. Grayson is also the cousin of Sam from a couple of books ago, Sizzle.  This book starts with 4 little girls who are gravely ill and form a bond because of their shared pain and suffering. They all survive and the book begins with Olivia going to a job interview because she thinks she might lose her job at the IRS to cut backs. She ends up getting attacked by the guy interviewing her and his body guard. FBI agent Grayson Kincaid ( love that name) comes to the rescue when he tackles the body guard and saves her. That's how they meet!  Olivia had a hard childhood. She spent most of it in the hospital seriously ill and none of her family every came to see her until her aunt Emma moved to be near her and became like a surrogate mom to her. The three girls she was hospitalized with are her best friends even now. She grew up to become a lawyer and she  uses that to help kids in need of legal representation. Which sometimes gets her into dangerous situations.Outside of that she's trying to put her father in prison for what she thinks is a big Ponzi scheme. She just can't seem to find the evidence she needs to prove it. Somehow the guy her job interview turned fist fight  with has something to do with her father and between threats from him and her family and her dad lawyer and well several other people, her life is in danger. Grayson of course is going to protect her at any cost. Grayson for his part doesn't have to work. He's got plenty of money and at this time is caring for his 9 year old nephew. (sweet huh?)  I like how this story played out. I was really hoping we'd get a little more Aidan though instead of just the one appearance at the beginning because i have been hoping for a long time that she'd get back to him and Cordy from her previous book Murder List. A couple of the sex scenes were the kind you might roll your eyes at although a couple others were really darn hot. I love epilogues but the one Julie did here was kind of me'h for me. Didn't add anything really. What i really liked what Grayson and Olivia as a couple. I also loved some of the character names for Grayson and Ronan. The one name i didn't like but hope if this is going to continue on with the other girls is Olivia's one friend Collins. 4 out of 5 Modokker Book Pick stars for Sweet Talk by Julie Garwood.

Book review: About that Night (FBI/US Attorney series) by Julie James

Photobucket

He’s playing games.

Though Rylann Pierce tried to fight the sparks she felt for billionaire heir Kyle Rhodes the night they met, their sizzling chemistry was undeniable. But after being stood up on their first date, Rylann never expected to see him again. So when she finds herself face-to-face with Kyle in a courthouse nine years later, she’s stunned. More troubling to the beautiful assistant U.S. attorney is that she’s still wildly attracted to him.

But she’s making the rules.

Just released from prison, Kyle Rhodes isn’t thrilled to be the star witness in a high-profile criminal case—but when Rylann comes knocking at his door, he finds she may be the one lawyer he can’t say no to. Still as gorgeous and sharp-tongued as ever, she lays down the law: she doesn’t mix business with pleasure. But Kyle won’t give up on something he wants—and what he wants is the one woman he’s never forgotten. . .

This is the third book in Julie James FBI/US Attorney series. I've been following this series and so i have and read and reviewed the first two as well. You can read this as a stand alone or in series order. You won't be totally lost if you pick it up to read on it's own. We meet Kyle Rhodes in the previous book in the series A Lot Like Love. In that book Kyle's sister is the main female character. Kyle makes a huge colossal mistake in that book as he is a huge tech wizard and upset and in a drunken state goes in and hacks twitter and shuts it down. Then he jumps a plane out of the country to get away. Finally when he sobers up he goes to fly home and is arrested. Prosecuted and sent to prison with a 18 month sentence. His sister helps get him out after only 4 months. In this book he goes before the judge to get his final motion is his case so he could be a free man. When he steps into the courtroom he finds himself face to face with Rylann Pierce. Kyle met Rylann 9 years ago when she was a law student. Now she's a assistant US attorney and he is her first case in her new office. He was supposed to take her out on a date the day after they met but his mother was killed in a terrible car accident and life got in the way. They had this big connection that apparently 9 years apart didn't dampen.  Rylann finds herself needing his help with a case and in the midst of that they start seeing each other. Kyle is a new man and has a plan for his life. He's building a new company of his own and trying to get past his past mistakes. He'll always be the twitter terrorist though and Rylann is afraid of damaging her reputation by taking their relationship public. This was a really fun read. Loved Kyle and Rylann. The secondary characters were nice and I'm curious to see who the next book is going to be about. I don't feel this book had as much sizzle as the previous two but it's got plenty of great dialogue and funny bits. I look forward to what comes next. 3 out of 5 Modokker Book pick stars for About that Night by Julie James.

Book review: The Witness by Nora Roberts

Photobucket

"Daughter of a controlling mother, Elizabeth finally let loose one night, drinking at a nightclub and allowing a strange man’s seductive Russian accent lure her to a house on Lake Shore Drive. The events that followed changed her life forever.

Twelve years later, the woman known as Abigail Lowery lives on the outskirts of a small town in the Ozarks. A freelance programmer, she designs sophisticated security systems—and supplements her own security with a fierce dog and an assortment of firearms. She keeps to herself, saying little, revealing nothing. But Abigail’s reserve only intrigues police chief Brooks Gleason. Her logical mind, her secretive nature, and her unromantic viewpoints leave him fascinated but frustrated. He suspects that Abigail needs protection from something—and that her elaborate defenses hide a story that must be revealed." - Penguin Group

This past week was a big week for Nora Roberts. The Witness came out last Tuesday as Nora Roberts 200th book. She doesn't disappoint with this light suspense/contemporary romance. The book is broken down in 4 parts. Elizabeth, Brooks, Abigail and Elizabeth again to finish. Elizabeth has a awful childhood. She was born and bred with one purpose to be what he mother wanted her to be. To be molded. At the age of 16 she took a stand against that and rebelled. It's not often teenage rebellion turns into death by Russian mafia though. In the first part you get young Elizabeth's story. What leads up to her whole life changing forever and being on her own at the age of 17 when she witnesses a violent crime. In Brooks part of the book you get a intro to him and his intro to Elizabeth now known as Abigail. The story goes through Abigail and Brooks and him  finally getting through to her that he's there for her. She can trust him. Elizabeth/Abigail is this amazing character. Her mind analyzes everything and she is extremely smart but lacking in some social areas because of her early upbringing. The woman is simply amazing. With all she's been through she's not bitter but she is cautious. She's got guns everywhere and a big ole dog to protect her. Knows how to look out for herself. Brooks is awesome. A Easy going guy with a big heart and enough humor in him that rubs off bit by bit on Elizabeth/Abigail. He teaches her about what it's like to really live. She never learned that as a kid. How to have fun and just be and Brooks gives that to her along with unconditional love. I loved all the characters. Probably Brooks the most but Abigail got into my heart. She didn't really have a life until Brooks came along. When he did she resisted at first because she had made her life a pattern. Surviving was her life. Staying physically alive and that's it. Once Brooks got under her skin she was finding it was OK to just be and do things that felt good just because she wanted to. This book feels like it's going to be suspenseful based on the first part where Elizabeth's past is explained but it's actually  more on the relationship of Brooks and Abigail and her finding her way to be free. I liked it a lot. 4 out of 5 Modokker Book Pick Stars. Congrats to Nora Roberts on her 200th book. Hope there are many more in her future to come.

Book Review: Hot Secrets by Lisa Renee Jones

Photobucket

THE HERO: Royce Walker—the oldest Walker brother and a former FBI Negotiator. The silent type, Royce urges others to talk, having learned there are far more rewards from listening than running his mouth. When he does speak, he doesn’t hold back, his opinions made readily available. He can be abrupt and tough, overbearing even. But none of this stops women from seeing the appeal of his rock hard six-foot-three frame and long, dark hair.

Royce Walker, a former FBI Agent, who’s opened a private security firm with his brothers, has always had the hots for the prim, proper Assistant District Attorney, but considered her hand’s off because of a family connection. However, when danger threatens Lauren, he isn’t willing to stand by and watch her get hurt. Now the passion for survival is only rivaled by the passion burning between them. And that passion, might just be the death of them both.

Royce Walker is a whole lot of sexy. He has skills that make him perfect for protecting the innocent or those in danger. He gets asked to look into some threats to a senator's daughter and out of obligation agrees to see what he can find out. He finds himself with Lauren Reynolds the beautiful Assistant DA at her father the senator's birthday party.  Not long after that he already finds himself providing her with protection. Lauren is one tough chick though and it takes a lot to rattle her.  As the story progresses more and more the threats get that much more serious. Royce enlists his brothers Luke and Blake to help him try to figure out what's going on. All the while keeping the secret from Lauren that he is there for protection while in fact he is also in love with her.  This is fast paced story. Filled with action, suspense and thrills. You get to meet all 3 of the Walker brothers and let me tell you they all come across as hot and sexy and capable. Try to guess who the bad guy is. I had several thoughts to who it might be but never could nail down who was behind the threats to Lauren. This is one of those read in one sitting books that i love. 4 out of 5 Modokker Book Pick stars for Hot Secrets by Lisa Renee Jones.

Book review: Hold me by author Betsy Horvath

I received a copy of this book through netgally.com for my honest opinion and review.

This is Betsy Horvath's debut book. I was looking through netgalley's website and came across it and decided to check out the blurb and then of course i wanted to read it. This is how i came to read this one. Hold me is a sexy little romantic suspense. Let's get to the blurb.
Photobucket
Coming September 5, 2011 from Carina Press

Available for pre-order now
Katie McCabe’s life is going nowhere fast when FBI Special Agent Lucas Vasco jumps into her car at an intersection. Luc, his undercover guise blown, is on the run from the Mafia and expects to be killed at any moment. What he doesn’t plan on is finding himself attracted to the firecracker beside him. He feels compelled to protect her when her life is threatened, and insists she stay with him for her own safety.

After learning she has become the target of a psychotic hit man, Katie is whisked off to Luc’s house to hide. Once there, she’s shocked to discover that she and Luc have an unexpected connection—a connection Luc already knew existed, but withheld. Will their intense attraction reach flashpoint despite their misunderstandings and the pain of the past?

This is a great debut book for Betsy Horvath. Lots of action but lots of hot sweaty sex and of course romance. lol Katie McCabe is minding her own business driving her car down the street when it stalls at a intersection. All of the sudden this guy opens the door and jumps in and tells her to GO! Uh uh not happening. She tells him to get out but he can't because he has a killer after him. He finally gets her to go when bullets starts flying around her. This would be Luc FBI special agent Luc Vasco hot guy! They get away from the bad guy when they crash but they both end up arrested. Once everything is sorted out though Kate kinds herself the object of a killer's evil eye. He wants her dead. Luc decides he has to protect her and keep her safe. Luc has a secret though.  They already know each other. Katie has a big family 3 brothers and 2 sisters and a foster sister. The relationshipa for some characters are very complex. You get a little glimpse of some of them but the main focus is of course on Katie and Luc. When i read this i kept thinking i can totally see a follow up book or two. Guess what? I emailed the author and she confirmed there are 2 more in the works.  There were some really good secondary characters in this book so my mind wanders to who they could be about. Could it be David his supervisor who has been like a brother to him. Justin his ex partner or Melanie his and Katie's Foster sister?? Perhaps one of Katie's brothers. Lots of potential. This book had some of everything i like in a romantic suspense. Hot steamy sex scenes, pretty nifty car chases, bad guys, romance and my favorite humor. I give Hoold me by author Betsy Horvath 4 out of 5 Modokker Book Pick Stars. To find out more about Betsy check out her website and blog by clicking here www.betsyhorvath.com

Attraction grows between them as they form a tight team against their enemies. But to act on that attraction, first they have to stay alive.

When Gabe Cannon's commando team is tasked with bringing down a rogue solider, he doesn't expect to come face-to-face with the target's sister at the showdown instead of the man himself.

Jasmine is trying to lead the team away from her injured brother. Recognizing one of the hunters as her teenage crush is definitely a shock to her system. To save her family, she must convince Gabe that her brother was framed. But can she stop from falling in love with him all over again?

This is a fast moving book. It's was way to short for me. Sexy as hell Gabe ( see the cover) was a once in the Army and then after the FBI and finally a private security firm. He finds himself in Venice looking for a old Army buddy who has gone AWOL and is wanted dead and not alive. Something seems fishy to Gabe the longer he gets into this OP. Jasmine is running out of time and energy. Jake her brother has been shot in the leg and has a broken arm and an infection. Book review: Ideal Man by author Julie Garwood

Photobucket

I received a eARC through netgalley of Ideal man for my honest opinion and review.

I'm so excited about this book that I'm going to just come right out with the blurb for starters.

Ideal Man
Julie Garwood
August 9th 2011
Pre-order now.
Dr. Ellie Sullivan has just completed her residency at a large urban hospital. While jogging in a park nearby, she witnesses the shooting of an FBI agent in pursuit of wanted criminals, a couple identified as the Landrys. The only person to see the shooter's face, Ellie is suddenly at the center of a criminal investigation.

Agent Max Daniels takes over the Landry case. A no-nonsense lawman, he's definitely not the ideal man that Ellie has always imagined, yet she's attracted to him in a way she can't explain.

I read in one big gulp and hated to see it end. Max is just plain awesome. Poor Ellie had a rough up bringing. At age 11 she found herself a child prodigy and shortly after she picked up a stalker. Evan Patterson who was 6 years older than Ellie became obsessed with her and at one point nearly killed her. Finally her parents with the help of a FBI friend found her a family to stay with 800 miles away where hopefully Evan can't find her. Now Ellie is a trauma surgeon and witnesses a FBI agent getting shot by the Landry's some baddies the FBI has been after for some time. She ends up doing surgery on the agent and this is where she meets Max Daniels FBI agent and sexiest man alive Ellie thinks.  There is instant chemistry between the two and when Max finds out the Landrys have a hit out on her he volunteers to follow her to her parents home where she is for her sisters wedding. Now Ellie has to worry about Evan Patterson and a possible hit man out to get her. Not to worry Max is there to protect her.  I just have to say that Julie Garwood is my favorite author. I have never been disappointed in any book of hers that I've picked up to read. This always makes me a bit nervous when she has a new book coming out because I'm afraid i might be disappointed. I am pleased to say that that didn't happen here. This is one of the best books I've read all year. I give Ideal man by Julie Garwood 5 out of 5 Modokker Book Pick Stars. A Must read. To read more about Julie Garwood and her books click here to check out her website www.juliegarwood.com . If you are familiar with Julie Garwood's other books there is a surprise mention of Michael Buchanan at the end of this book but that's it. Wonder if that means Michael might get a book. Never hear much about him. One can hope.

Book review: Something About You by author Julie James

"Something about You" by Julie James is the third book release for author Julie James. I was lucky enough to get my hands on a copy of her 4th release A Lot Like Love a while back and really enjoyed it so i decided to seek out her other books and see if they were as good. If you like FBI guys with your romance this book is a good choice for you. Below is a little bit about the book.

Something About You

Fate has thrown two sworn enemies…

Of all the hotel rooms rented by all the adulterous politicians in Chicago, female Assistant U.S. Attorney Cameron Lynde had to choose the one next to 1308, where some hot-and-heavy lovemaking ends in bloodshed. And of all the FBI agents in Illinois, it had to be Special Agent Jack Pallas who gets assigned to this high-profile homicide. The same Jack Pallas who still blames Cameron for a botched crackdown three years ago—and nearly ruining his career…

…into each other’s arms

Work with Cameron Lynde? Are they kidding? Maybe, Jack thinks, this is some kind of welcome-back prank after his stint away from Chicago. But it’s no joke: the pair is going to have to put their rocky past behind them and focus on the case at hand. That is, if they can cut back on the razor-sharp jibes—and smother the flame of their sizzling-hot sexual tension…

I loved this one. I literally sat down and read it in one big gulp. lol It had a nice smooth pace that just kept you reading. Three years ago Jack was undercover for the FBI when his cover was blown and a DEA agent was killed and he was injured. Eventually though they thought they had enough evidence to put the evil crack dealer in prison for good, but when it came time to indict the U.S. Attorney's office said they couldn't do it. Namely it was Cameron Lynde a sexy assistant U.S. attorney who informed him that they would not be prosecuting. He was so upset that when approached by a reporter after finding out blurted out a very nasty comment about Cameron. He nearly got himself fired but instead was transferred to a remote post in North Dakota for 3 years. Little did he know that Cameron was the one who went to bat for him to keep from getting fired. He think she's the one who made sure he got transferred. She was still new to the U.S, Attorney's office and didn't want to rock the boat so she had done what her boss told her. Little did she know he had ulterior motives. Flash back to current time and Cameron kind of witnesses a murder of sorts. Guess who is back in town and assigned to the case? YUP Jack Pallas. They decide since Cameron is the only witness and no one knows that she knows something she needs protection. The local police start out with this detail but it isn't long before Jack decides he needs to take over. Can he catch the killer before he gets to Cameron? Will Cameron tell Jack what really happened 3 years ago? There was just the right amount of suspense and romance mix in this book for me. I really enjoyed it. Read this one first then hit A Lot Like Love. They can be read separately but some of the characters are in both. I give Something About You by Julie James 5 Modokker Book Pick Stars. It's been a while since i read a book in one sitting and this one was worth it.

Book review: Face of Danger by author Roxanne St Claire

Face of Danger is the third installment in Roxanne St Claire's hot new series "The Guardian Angelino's". I got a bit lucky when i heard thru the Internet grapevine that Barnes and Noble was shipping this book early. It doesn't come out until April 26th but i was able to order it last Friday and it showed up on my doorstep yesterday so naturally i already read it. I got started reading Roxanne's work back over a year ago when i stumbled upon her at www.writerspace.com in one of their fun authors chat rooms. I was intrigued by what i heard and ran out to the library the next day to see if they had any of her Bullet Catcher series books. It didn't take but a few chapters of her first Bullet Catchers book to hook me and I've been a fan since. I didn't expect to be disappointed in this new book and i wasn't! This one i think is my favorite so far of the three although I've loved them all. My favorite genre as I've said before is romantic suspense right now and Roxanne St Claire certainly knows her way around that particular genre. Below is the back cover blurb for Face of Danger.

Private investigator Vivi Angelino loves living life on the edge, but stepping into the shoes of a movie starlet to bait a serial killer isn't just a thrill . . . it's a ticket to the big time for her fledgling security firm. That is, as long as a certain risk-averse FBI agent stays out of her way-and out of her fantasies.

Assistant Special Agent in Charge Colton Lang isn't above using his well-worn rulebook to stop Vivi's latest walk on the wild side. But when they learn her client is involved in something far more insidious than bad acting, Vivi and Colt must work together despite the electrifying attraction arcing between them. For each new clue is bringing them closer to a high-profile crime with a dark and deadly truth at its core . . . and a cold, calculating murderer with nothing left to lose.

Love how the characters in this book Colton (Lang) and Vivi are brought to life. You get to see them in the other books but here they get to shine on their own. It's their story. You get a smidgen of Gabe in there and Chessie she's a little stingy of the giving the rest of the family a spot in this book lol. I do love my glimpse's of past and future characters and there is a surprise appearance by a bullet catcher at the end that i loved. Colton and Vivi both have some tough personal hurdles to get past in this book not to mention the case they find themselves involved in together. Vivi snags herself a huge client for a payoff of a cool million  dollars she only has to be a decoy for a famous actress who may or may not be the target of a serial killer dubbed The Red Carpet Killer. Vivi signs a agreement she won't tell anyone that she not Cara the actress she's doubling for. Thing is 5 minutes into the assignment she comes face to face with one Colton Lang FBI special agent in charge. She's worked with Colton a lot so he knows her very well. She's got to try and either make him believe she's Cara or make sure he doesn't give her away since she was told someone would be watching and listening to her every move. Things get crazy right from the start when she gets attacked and get crazier from there.  There's alot more going on than the  possibility of a  Red Carpet Killer. This story has many twists and turns and surprises. When you read this see if you can figure out who the blue eyes muscle man is before it's revealed towards the end. lol Now that I've warned you might think a little harder than i did ( which was not much at all) and figure it out.  Vivi is such a strong person you'd never think she has personal demons but because of Colton she decides she needs to face them once and for all and then maybe Colton can face his too. There is some emotional stuff and funny stuff and suspenseful stuff with plot twists you won't see coming. Your kept guessing right til the end. I loved it right down to the ending. Ready for the next one please! Great series. I give Face of Danger 5 out of 5 Modokker book Pick stars!! You can read more about this  on Roxanne St. Claire's website including a excerpt and the other books in this series by clicking here. PS there is also a short story prequel to this series on her website under the free reads heading.

Book review: Shiver of Fear by author Roxanne St Claire

Shiver of fear is the 2nd installment in Roxanne St Claire's newest series The Guardian Angelinos. The first book in this series is Edge of Sight which i reviewed here a while back when it came out. To get a free taste for this series though you can read a free short story prequel entitled "Taken to the Edge" which introduces you to the two main characters of Edge of Sight and gives you a glimpse into other characters in this series and a taste of what's to come. Click here to read it. I believe it's about 26 pages or so so easy read. Nice way to see if this series is for you. Romantic suspense has turned into my favorite genre these days and Roxanne St Claire's other series The Bullet Catchers is one of my favorite Romantic suspense series. Let's start with a little back cover blurbage shall we?

The legacy that haunts her . . .
The mystery she must solve . . .
A man who threatens to reveal her secrets . . .
and break her heart.

Burned by a failed marriage, former FBI agent Marc Rossi wants back in the investigation game with no emotional strings attached. Taking an assignment for his enterprising Angelino cousins, he heads to Northern Ireland to pry a key piece of evidence from a missing socialite-any way he can. But when the ice queen turns out to be warm, beautiful, and on a secret mission of her own, the job becomes a passionate reminder of what happens when duty and desire mix. The daughter of an infamous fugitive, Devyn Sterling has survived betrayal only to find that her mother has mysteriously disappeared. When her search uncovers secrets, lies, and threats, Devyn and Marc must trust each other when every instinct says they can't . . . and a terrorist wants to make sure they won't live to try.

We meet Marc Rossi and Devyn Sterling in Edge of Sight. Devyn's husband gets murdered in the first book and she takes off in search of her birth mother in Northern Ireland for answers to burning questions about her parentage. She was adopted as a baby and always felt out of place and then she found out who her real parents were and was not happy with what she found out. In this book Marc gets the assignment for the Guardian Angelinos working for the FBI to find Devyn and convince her to get out of Ireland. Marc finds her easily but getting her to leave Ireland is tricky business he finds out. Roxanne St Claire takes you on a wild ride thru Northern Ireland. You feel like you're there and there are so many twists and turns in this plot just when you think you've figured out who the bad guy is as it were you're wrong. I totally did not see the ending for what it was. I was definitely surprised. I like that i must say lol To read a excerpt from this book or check out the other books and characters in this series you can go to Roxanne's website by clicking here. You can also take a peek at her Bullet Catcher series which some of those characters are reported to appear in this series. I give Shiver of Fear 5 out of 5 Modokker Book pick stars! I love a good romantic suspense that delivers the romance, the suspense and some good laughs in the mix as well and Rocki delivers with this book!

Book review: A Lot Like Love by author Julie james

A Lot Like Love is the latest release of author Julie James. I read the back cover blurb of this book and decided i had to read it based on the fact the lead guy here was a FBI agent. My experience has led me to believe FBI guys are usually hot alpha males and i like those kind of guys in my books. Let's get to that blurb.

The FBI wants her cooperation.

As the daughter of a billionaire and the owner of the city’s top wine store, Jordan Rhodes is invited to the most exclusive parties in Chicago. But there’s only one party the FBI wants to crash: the charity fundraiser of a famous restaurateur, who also happens to launder money for the mob. In exchange for her brother’s release from prison, Jordan is going to be there—with a date supplied by the Bureau.

Agent McCall just wants her.

As the top undercover agent in Chicago, Nick McCall has one rule: never get personal. This “date” with Jordan Rhodes is merely an assignment—one they’re both determined to pull off even if they can’t be together for five minutes before the sarcasm and sparks begin to fly. But when Nick’s investigation is compromised, he and Jordan have no choice but to pretend they’re a couple, and what starts out as a simple assignment begins to feel a lot like something more. . .

Jordan's and Nick can't seem to stand each other but then Nick is forced to start spending lots of time with her trying to catch the bad guy by acting like boyfriend girlfriend sparks fly. Jordan is set to inherit billions from her dad one day so Nick feels he's not good enough for her and her money and the life style he thinks she has because of it. Every time he turns around it seems though she proves him wrong. She's not a stuck up society princess she's an amazing smart women with alot of guts. They spend a weekend in Napa tasting wine and getting to know each other and falling in love although both are afraid to tell the other. Then a misunderstanding breaks them apart right before the op is supposed to be over when the bad guy comes after Jordan with deadly intent. Can Jack get there in time??? hmmm probably it is a romance book right? lol There are some really funny moments in this book. I love a book that can do that. Make me laugh out loud. If you want to find out more about Julie James and her other books please click here to view her website. I give  A Lot Like Love 4 Modokker book pick stars. I think I'm going to be checking out her other selections soon.
