Book review: Blaze of Memory by author Nalini Singh

Nalini Singh is not a new author for me. This book though is from the Psy-Changeling series which is totally new to me. This is book #9 in the series i believe. The first one i've read and if you know me i generally start at the first book if a series in involved. Thing is it's not easy to find a Nalini Singh book in the rural area i live so when one of the libraries i use had this book i grabbed it! It's the only one they had in the series too unfortunately. Ok so i read this book without the benefit of reading the 8 books before it. I plan to remedy that as soon i can. Let's start with the teaser on the back of the book.

Dev Santos discovers her unconscious and battered, with no memory of who she is. All she knows is that she’s dangerous. Charged with protecting his people’s most vulnerable secrets, Dev is duty-bound to eliminate all threats. It’s a task he’s never hesitated to complete…until he finds himself drawn to a woman who might yet prove the enemy’s most insidious weapon.

Stripped of her memories by a shadowy oppressor, and programmed to carry out cold-blooded murder, Katya Haas is fighting desperately for her sanity itself. Her only hope is Dev. But how can she expect to gain the trust of a man who could very well be her next target? For in this game, one must die…

Sound exciting? It is! This series is set in the future so you have to keep that in mind when you read this book. There are a lot of techy thing in there to make it exciting. This book is a paranormal romance and quite different and exciting. I would suggest reading from the first of the series because i had to read this a little blind and i know alot of the things that i didn't really get i would've had i read the other books first. Katya is found dumped on Dev front door and unconscious. Dev is the charge of a group called Shine cover for The Forgotten a group that escaped from PsyNet years ago. He must protect his people from every threat.  Is Katya a threat or a victim or perhaps she's both? Katya can't remember anything at first but as she starts to remember she believes she is a weapon Dev enemies want to use against her. Funny thing is the longer Dev is around here the more he feels protective of her the more he needs to be with her. The characters in this book all have different kinds of abilities. Some of this i had a hard time getting because i started reading so far in the series. Even with some of the confusion i had i was riveted to this wanting to figure it all out and see where Dev and Katya were going. It starts to look like there is no way for Katya to get any kind of happy ending and i thought it was going to end one way but went a totally different way in the end. The story was fast paced and also had lots of twists and turns that it kept you wondering. I don't mind predictability in a book sometimes but when you can't figure it out it's alot more fun isn't it? I really would recommend this book to anyone who likes paranormal romance or wants to try something different. I would though suggest you start at the first book in the series. I give this book 4 out of 5 Modokker book pick stars.
