Book review: All He Ever Dreamed (Kowalski Family #6) by Shannon Stacey

 photo shannonstacey_zpsc54b484a.jpg

Josh Kowalski is tired of holding down the fort—better known as the Northern Star Lodge—while his siblings are off living their dreams. Now that his oldest brother has returned to Whitford, Maine for good, Josh is free to chase some dreams of his own.

As the daughter of the lodge's longtime housekeeper, Katie Davis grew up alongside the Kowalski kids. Though she's always been "one of the guys", her feelings for Josh are anything but sisterly. And after a hot late-night encounter in the kitchen, it's clear Josh finally sees her as the woman she is.

Katie's been waiting years for Josh to notice her, but now that he has, she's afraid it's too late. Giving her heart to a man who can't wait to leave town is one sure way to have it broken. But Josh keeps coming up with excuses not to leave—could it be that everything he's ever wanted is closer than he could have imagined?

I've been reading this series for a while. Been patiently waiting for Katie and Josh to get together or something. If you read the previous book you knew it wasn't going to be a pretty and neatly wrapped up love story because Josh wants out of Whitford and away from the family business. Katie is a hometown girl though and so when the time comes that Josh can go out and find himself finally Katie won't and can't go. She's got responsibilities and roots in Whitford and he needs to go and do whatever he needs to do on his own. I wanted to slap him up the head a time or two and show him the error of his ways. Loved both characters though in spite of Josh ticking me off a time or two. Another great read by Shannon Stacey. 4 out of 5 stars for All He Ever Dreamed.

Book review: Return to Sender by Annabeth Albert

 photo returntosender_zpse062c895.jpg

Available now.
Jack Donovan and Bree Hendricks have been in hot competition since their school days, whether it’s tussling over the best apartment or bickering over local leash laws. Bree has never turned down a challenge, so when her new toy in its brown paper packaging is delivered to Jack’s doorstep by mistake, it’s the perfect opportunity for a game of truth or dare.

Bree is determined to set a good example for her teenage daughter, and that means no flirting, no flings and definitely no one night stands. But a bout of saucy cybersex demonstrating her new dildo…there’s no danger in that. Unless Bree allows her heart to become involved.

This was the first book I have read by the author Annabeth Albert. Wasn't sure what to expect but was happily surprised! Jack and Bree have been in competition for something it seems forever. Annabeth feels she slipped up and made a mistake getting pregnant young, getting married to the guy and messed missing college to take care of her infant daughter not that she regrets having the baby. Since then though she's determined to be a good example to her daughter. That means no more mistakes. Jack would be a mistake but he is a big temptation. Jack might appear like a whatever go with the flow guy who chases anything in a skirt but Bree hurt him years ago in high school. He's always respected her and the way she's always taken care of her daughter but she doesn't see it. Finally his chance comes when a package that embarrasses Bree ends up in his hands and he takes advantage of it.  He plays a little game with her to get her to see what she means to him but it takes her a while to get it. This is a sassy sexy story. A whole lot of hot. 5 out 5 stars for Return to Sender by Annabeth Albert. If you haven't read this author you need to check this out.

Book review: The Seduction ( Inside out series, novella) by Lisa Renee Jones

 photo theseduction_zpsed77c5b3.jpg
Available January 28th 2013
An Inside Out novella...

The secret life of Rebecca and the men who have seduced her.
These are the journals Sara never sees, but you the reader, will!

More details!

The journals read like stories and begin the first time Rebecca visits the gallery in the INSIDE OUT TRILOGY. You will meet Mark, Chris, Ava, Amanda, Ricco, and all the series characters as she does AND there are tons of clues to what happens in BEING ME in the first 4 serials. They are woven within the story ready for your discovery, as is Rebecca's dark, erotic journey.

This is a journal style novella that tells the story from Rebecca's point of view. Rebecca is the woman who writes the journal in the first Inside out trilogy book. This is her accounting in her words. Remember she has disappeared in book one and Sara gets the journal. This was fun to read. Lots of sexy journal entries. A nice addition to the serial. 4 out of 5 stars for The Seduction. Find out more about the entire serial and all the extras here. www.lisareneejones.com

Book review: Only Us ( Fools Gold Holiday Novella) by Susan Mallery

 photo onlyus_zpseb7a5904.jpg

Fool's Gold, California, a charming small town that's short on men, has captured thousands of readers' hearts in Susan Mallery's New York Times bestselling series. Fall in love with Fool's Gold's beloved characters and heartwarming romance in Only Us: A Fool's Gold Holiday novella!

Pet groomer Carina Fiore wants nothing more than to confess her feelings to the man she loves. She's drawn to veterinarian Cameron McKenzie's good looks, caring nature and especially his devotion to his young daughter. But he's also her boss and a good friend. Putting her heart on the line could cost Rina both her job and their friendship forever.

Since his divorce, Cameron hasn't been willing to trust his heart--or his daughter--with anyone else. For months he's pushed away all thoughts of taking Rina in his arms and kissing her, unwilling to risk their friendship for a single night of pleasure. But when a kiss under the mistletoe unlocks the simmering passion between them, Rina and Cameron may just find love for the holidays after all....

This is a novella that goes along with Susan Mallery's Fools Gold series. I think you could also read it as a stand alone if you wanted too. Carina or Rina as she is called in the book is a pet groomer that works out of Cameron McKenzie's veterinarian office. She also helps take care of his little girl. She falls in love with him but he's kind of oblivious and really just afraid to change anything. His wife left him when his daughter was a just a baby so trusting does not come easy.  Carina's friend Beth convinces her to tell him how she feels and it backfires. Cameron rebuffs her so she plans to move her business out of his clinic and desperately tries to pretend like she's OK as she continues to care for his daughter and get through the holidays until she can get away from him. You can feel the hurt Carina feels as you read this story and the love she feels for both Cameron and his daughter. You can also feel for Cameron because he doesn't want to lose what he already has with Carina but is also afraid to give his heart again. Touching, wonderful short story. Love the ending.  4 out of 5 stars for Only us by Susan Mallery. Wish it would have been a full book but you take the little bits you get and enjoy them.

Book Reivew: Wildy by Debra Kayn

WildlyCover_DebraKayn photo WildlyCover_DebraKayn.jpg

Shauna Marino left Cottage Grove, California an innocent teenager, gangly, wild and with no fashion sense, always diving headfirst into whatever feelings ruled the moment. Now, she’s back to fix her mistakes. She’s gained a respectable job, set a plan in motion to benefit the town, and all that’s left is to prove to Grayson Schyler she’s changed. Maybe this time, he won’t tell her no when she shows up naked and asks him to make her a woman.

Grayson Schyler, former Wimbledon champion, would've recognized Shauna anywhere. She’s made his life sweeter one moment, and hell the next. As someone in the public eye, he’d gone to great strains not to allow the media to misread their relationship, which wasn't always easy when Shauna was around. Now she’s back, asking for his help, and all he can think about is if she came back to make him pay for what he’d done

This is a shorter book at around 135 pages. Something you can read in a afternoon which some days is just about perfect. There is a six year age difference between Shauna Marino and Grayson Schyler which  was a big gap when she was 12 and he was 18 and they became friends. Shauna had a hugr crush on him and hounded him for years trying to show her affection and love. Grayson cared about her too but knew he was to old and it was inappropriate  for them to even be seen together. He was a tennis star with the eyes of the world on him. Finally Shauna's dad sent her off to college after one of her stunts and she decided she needed to grow up too. Now she's back and both are old enough but Shauna is back home to prove to the town she is a mature adult now and regain some respect she lost as a teenager. This a good quick paced story but i was wanted to kick Grayson's but for at least half the book. He's kind of mean and unfeeling toward Shauna but you finally figure out he's trying to protect her and he's kind of a chicken. lol I liked all the characters and there is a lot of conflict in Shauna's life she's dealing with that i know i would have a hard time with too. Poor Grayson learns his lessons in the end.  4 out of 5 Stars for Wildly by Debra Kayn.

Book Review: Leave No Trace (Black Ops Inc 5.5 novella) by Cindy Gerard

Photobucket

Reissue from anthology Deadly Promises.
December 2012
David Cavanaugh is tired of his undercover work for the CIA. He desperately wants to retire but when a colleague (Wyatt Savage; Risk No Secrets) asks Cav to find his missing friend (Carrie Granger) he reluctantly agrees. Cav arrives in Myanmar where he discovers Carrie has been caught up in a bungled arrest. To cover up their mistake the government has thrown her in their ruby mines where she labors as a virtual slave. To free her Cav must pretend to work with the corrupt government in Myanmar. Can Carrie learn to trust him or will this rescue mission end in tragedy for them both?

If you have read the BOI or Black Ops Inc. series from Cindy Gerard you have met David Cavanaugh. David is better known simply as Cav. Long time friends and former coworkers of Wyatt Savage and Joe Green both on the BOI team.  In Whisper No Lies (book 3 and my favorite!) Cav helps the guys save the heroine in that book. Now he's thinking he's done with the CIA he wants out. Right about that time Wyatt calls desperate for his help. His friend Carrie is missing in a country that doesn't care for women's rights. He can't so no so off he goes. This is a short but fast paced book. Still has all the thrill factors the other full books in this series had and the hunky guy and tough but vulnerable girl and steamy sex scenes. I'm so glad we got to see a bit more of Cav. He comes  off as pretty slick and put together in the previous book he appeared in but we find out he's not as perfect as he seems. Loved this book but as always with a really good novella you wish it had been longer. Have to add it was nice to have a really quick visit with some of the other BOI guys too! 5 out of 5 stars for Leave No Trace by Cindy Gerard.

PS i found this novella after reading Killing Time and checking out her website. Great place to find out about the BOI series and the new One Eyed-Jack series. Book 1 in that series was reviewed here yesterday.

Book review: Killing Time ( One-eyed Jacks series) by Cindy Gerard

Photobucket
Available January 29th
An exciting new series featuring Mike "Primetown" Brown, a character from her popular "Black Ops, Inc." series.

For the seven years after Operation Slam Dunk went south, Mike Brown got drunk on each anniversary. The eighth year was no different--until he was drugged by a woman and woke up to her questions about what had happened eight years ago in Afghanistan. CIA attorney Eva Salinas has her own theory behind what happened to Mike's team--which included her husband--in Afghanistan eight years ago, and she's determined to prove foul play. Though she doesn't trust him, Mike is the only person she can turn to for help. Under an assumed name, Eva convinces Mike to assemble a new team and go after the traitor who screwed up both their lives. As they track down the rogue who started it all, Eva and Mike discover they can't live without each other. But can they stay alive while an enemy is still on the loose?

Huge Gigantic fan of Cindy Gerard over here. This is the first book in Pne-Eyed Jacks a new series which is also a Spin off from the BOI( Black Ops Inc) series. This one starts out with Primetime Mike Brown which is you did read the BOI series you saw him make an appearance there. I didn't know how much i liked him in those books but he slowly won me over in his own book. Cindy Gerard proves she's still got it with this book. I mean it's easy to expect that it'll be good if you liked her other books but there is also potential to not like it because it might not be what you expect. I can say for myself it was just the right amount of everything. I don't want to say a whole lot even though there are 2 chapter on Cindy Gerard's website it doesn't tell you a whole lot really. Just a intro to the two main characters. It's hard to know what's coming until you get into the meat of it where it really takes off. I will tell you that you get a nice juicy junk of Gabe from the BOI series. I like how the BOI were mixed into this first book to help you get to the start of the new series. I'm hoping they make an appearance here and there throughout the following books.  This book has the right amount of everything for romantic suspense.  Hot and broken hero, sexy tough heroine, pacing that works, story and of course mind bending sex scenes. Romantic suspense fans must check this out. 5 out of 5 stars for Killing Time by Cindy Gerard.

While your there check out her other books including the Black Ops Inc series this is a spin off from.

Book Review: Demon Hunting in a Dive Bar by Lexi George

Photobucket
Kensington Brava
January 31, 2013

Rebekah “Beck” Damian runs a demonoid bar where everyone’s welcome—even a reformed flesheater who’s strictly vegetarian, a musical ghost who’s looking for a piano bar, and a feline harbinger of doom named Wampus Kitty who’s scaring the customers. So when a big strapping demon-hunter walks into the bar, Beck knows it’s not the end of the world. She’ll treat him like any other customer.

If only she could. Conall Dalvahni is the toughest, meanest, sexiest demon-hunter Beck’s ever seen—and she’s finding it hard to hide her attraction. As far as Conall’s concerned, the feeling is mutual. But how can he trust a beautiful half-demon babe like Beck—when her demonic friends have the perfect weapon to destroy every hunter on earth?

This is the 3rd full book in the Demon Hunting series by Lexi George.( there is also a novella) I've been waiting for this one for a while. Curious to see how the big bad leader of the Dalvahni deals with being in love. lol Beck is a half demon half human or Kith with many talents but she is also the owner of a bar that's for non humans only. Conall can't figure out why he can't get Beck out of his head. She seems to hate him and they should be natural enemies as she is half demon and he is a demon hunter.  Lexi continues with her quick wit in this book but slightly subdued it feels to me. I enjoy her funny southernisms and banter between her characters and this is a good continuation of that. She slowly introduces new, possibly soon to be main characters and yet you get to also see some of the previous characters but it doesn't take away in any way from the main points of the story at hand. Of course we're left with a few surprises along the way and a bit of a cliffhanger at the end for the next book. A funny and enjoyable read with some hunky Dalvahni warriors thrown in as well. Be ready to laugh. 4 out of 5 stars for Demon Hunting in a Dive Bar by Lexi George.

Book review: What Chris Wants (novella, Men who Walk the Edge of Honor) by Lori Foster

Photobucket

When the going gets tough, the tough turn to Chris Chapey. As the right-hand man to a group of take-no-prisoners mercenaries, Chris can organize a top secret rescue mission with his eyes closed. But when it comes to his personal life, Chris is the one who needs a little help.

His problem: Matt Houser. Chris can’t deny his attraction to Matt, but Matt has no idea what Chris’s job really entails and how much it means to him. Matt challenges Chris to change his life—and make a place for him in it. Can Chris risk telling him the truth?
Look for more titles in the Men Who Walk the Edge of Honor series available now from Lori Foster and Harlequin HQN: A Perfect Storm, Savor the Danger, Trace of Fever and When You Dare.

If you have been reading this series you know who Christ Chapey is. Chris is introduced in the first book in this series. He's kind of Dare MacIntosh's right hand man. He runs everything in the background and he's damn good at his job. Thing is his job requires absolute discretion and secrecy. That means have a love interest to a certain degree is out. Matt Houser is his love interest in this novella. We meet him in book two when he give Priss (Trace's love interest) a make over.  Both are frustrated. Chris because he can't tell Matt exactly what he does for a living and Matt because he can't seem to get past the walls Chris has to find out what's going on and why he's being kept at arms length away. This is a short 4 chapter novella but it nicely wraps up Chris's story a bit and you get to see the characters from the 4 previous full size books. Lori Foster has said she's never done a M/M books but i think she did a nice job with this novella. I think a lot of her readers were thrilled to see it and i would be one of those. Nicely done! Felt like a reunion with a bonus! 4 out of 5 stars! I hate to see the series end but this was a great way to end it.

Book review: Kept (Coveted #2) by Shawntelle Madison

Photobucket

Fresh from defending her pack in battle, Natalya Stravinsky, a whip-smart werewolf with a lovable neurotic streak, wants a little rest and relaxation. Once an outcast, she’s now eager to rejoin the ranks of her New Jersey pack, and has even gotten a handle on her obsessive urge to hoard holiday ornaments. Yet Nat barely has time to revel in her progress before the next crisis comes howling at her door.

Nat’s father has suddenly gone missing, captured by the Russian werewolf mafia. And as Nat steps up to save her dad from a mob boss’s deadly game, two men step in to play another round for her heart: her gorgeous alpha ex-boyfriend, Thorn, and her new flame, the sweetly sensitive wizard Nick. With her life growing more harried by the minute, Nat must stay cool, calm, and collected . . . or else risk losing everything.

This is book 2 in the Coveted series by Shawntelle Madison. I have not read book 1 but i have it and am reading in reverse it seems. I think you can read this on it's own but it would be better with having read book 1 first to catch some of the back story to this book. That being said i really enjoyed this book. It's my first book by the author and i was pleasantly surprised how much i liked it.  There are werewolves, Wizards, mermaids, muse's and a whole bunch of interesting characters.  Natalya ( love the name) is a interesting character. She's got a support group full of friends who help her with her quirks. Nick being a one of them is a wizard and a love interest of hers as well as her ex boyfriend Thorn. Loved both these buys but i really felt for Nick. Natalya still loves Thorn but can't have him as he's supposed to marry another wolf in a arranged marriage for the pack as he is become their alpha male or leader. While Natalya is dealing with her quirks and her feelings she has to also go after her father when he is kidnapped and then face the trials in order to become officially a member of the pack.  Shawntelle Madison brings all these characters to life for me and you can get a pretty vivid picture in your mind of the story as it unfolds. I tried sitting up to read this in one sitting but couldn't quite make it. If i could i would have. Those are the best kinds of books i find. I would encourage you to try this series out. It's got a bit of everything and it all comes together to pull you through the story. 5 out of 5 stars for Kept by  Shawntell Madison.

Besides being a writer, JB Lynn is a compulsive reader, a runner (of sorts), an enthusiastic cook (who doesn't get the appeal of the Food Network), and someone who has an irresistible urge to eavesdrop at all times.
JB has a great love of her husband, dogs, coffee, purple ink, spiral notebooks, running gear, hot showers, and '80s music. Given enough time, all of these things will eventually show up in her books.

Now Below meet Patrick Mulligan He's a cop and a hitman with a lot of things going on in his life. Secrets too. He's teaching Maggie all he knows about the business of being a hitman and a little more too. Below that is the details for the blog tour giveaway! Enjoy!!!

My name is Patrick Mulligan and I’ve been a pretty successful hitman for a number of years. I’m also a cop, so you should trust me.

I’m good at what I do because I follow the ___ rules. I’ve tried to teach them to Maggie Lee, but she hasn’t done well following them….but I like her anyway.

1)     DON’T GET CAUGHT

It’s a no-brainer, but one that’s tricky to pull off.

Maggie learned this one the hard way in CONFESSIONS OF A SLIGHTLY NEUROTIC HITWOMAN

You need to make sure you can never be connected to the kills you pull off. This means constantly changing your cell phones and vehicles. It means avoiding being witnessed with others that might be tied to the hit. It’s also helpful to have a secret place where you can store your weapons.

2)     DEAD IS DEAD

You don’t get paid for someone having a “near death” experience. You collect the cash only when a third party confirms your mark has expired.

3)     DON’T GET EMOTIONALLY INVOLVED

Maggie totally disregarded this rule in FURTHER CONFESSIONS OF A SLIGHTLY NEUROTIC HITWOMAN and it got her in a lot of trouble.

I’ve found myself breaking my own rules when it comes to Maggie, which could get dangerous….

Trouble in Texas (Deep in the Heart of Texas #4) by Katie Lane

Photobucket

THERE'S A FOX IN THE HENHOUSE

Inheriting the most notorious house of ill repute in Texas can spell trouble for a girl's reputation . . . especially when she's Elizabeth Murphy, Bramble's prim and proper librarian. Yet when she discovers a buck-naked cowboy handcuffed to a four-poster bed, she forgets all about the town gossips. Elizabeth has sworn off men, but the stranger's kisses melt her resolve faster than ice cream on a hot summer day.

Waking up in Miss Hattie's Henhouse isn't how Brant Cates reckoned on getting to the bottom of his great-granddaddy's murder. The plan was to solve the centuries-old crime, then get the heck out of Dodge. But after meeting Elizabeth and discovering that the buttoned-up beauty is a sexy siren in disguise, he just can't pull himself away.

Now Brant needs Elizabeth to finally put his past to rest, but is she willing to risk her future on Bramble's newest bad boy?

This is maybe my 2nd Katie Lane book. I did not read the previous books in this series but that didn't bother me and didn't seem to effect the telling of the story.  Sexy Brant Cates is the oldest surviving brother of the Cates family. He feels there is a curse hounding his family. He thought it was kind of silly until his wife and young child died after a tornado came through and destroyed his home and his life. Now  he's decided to investigate the murder of his great grandfather and that leads him to the Miss Hattie's Henhouse. Elizabeth recently inherited the henhouse but she doesn't want it. She's led a buttoned up maiden type of life. She doesn't know what to do with Brant but being around him infuriates her and arouses her at the same time.  The Prologue starts out in with Brant's great grandfathers murder. There is no real clues given there but it to set the mind for later i think.  I enjoyed this book. Had a lot going for it. humor, romance and intrigue and secrets as well. Just enough of everything to balance out.  I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a fun romantic read with lots of laughs. 4 out of 5 stars for Trouble in Texas by Katie Lane.

Book review: Big Sky River (Swoon-Worthy Cowboys #3) by Linda Lael Miller

Photobucket

Available now!
Sheriff Boone Taylor has his job, friends, a run-down but decent ranch, two faithful dogs and a good horse. He doesn't want romance-the widowed Montanan has loved and lost enough for a lifetime. But when a city woman buys the spread next door, Boone's peace and quiet are in serious jeopardy.

With a marriage and a career painfully behind her, Tara Kendall is determined to start over in Parable. Reinventing herself and living a girlhood dream is worth the hard work. Sure, she might need help from her handsome, wary neighbor. But life along Big Sky River is full of surprises...like falling for a cowboy-lawman who just might start to believe in second chances.

This was my favorite of the 3 books in this series. Boone and Tara had terrible things happen to them. Both have struggled with those things and tried to come to terms with their lives. When Tara bought the chicken farm next door a place that used to belong to Boone's family they didn't seem to be able to get a long. After a couple things happening brings Boone's to little boys home to him from his sisters and Tara's ex-step daughters for a visit each starts to see that they don't really know that much about each other. Suddenly they realize that they are attracted to each other. This book is tear worthy and should make your heart melt too. I loved the both characters and hurt for them both. I was excited to see how the story laid itself out and cheered for them. 4 out of 5 stars for Big Sky River by Linda Lael Miller.

Book review: Wyoming Fierce (Wyoming Men #2) Diana Palmer

Photobucket
Available now!
Ranch owner Cane Kirk lost more than his arm in the war. He lost his way, battling his inner demons by challenging any cowboy unfortunate enough to get in his way. No one seems to be able to cool him down, except beautiful Bodie Mays. Bodie doesn't mind saving Cane from himself, even if he is a little too tempting for her own peace of mind. But soon Bodie's the one who finds herself in need of rescuing—only, she's afraid to tell Cane what's really going on. How can she trust someone as unpredictable as this fierce cowboy? When her silence only ends up getting her into even deeper hot water, it's up to Cane to save the day. And if he does it right, he won't be riding off into the sunset alone

I always say i have a love hate relationship with Diana Palmer's books. That hasn't changed with this book but there is a lot less love this time. You meet Cane in book one of this series and i was pretty excited to get his story. He's a military vet who lost part of his arm during the war in Iraq. My husband and i are both Army Desert Storm vets so military stories interest me. This one particular because i was curious to see how the author deals with the loss of the hero's arm and his struggles with everything that goes with PTSD.  I kept waiting to love Cane but i just couldn't get there this time. He was a ass from the beginning to end in this book. Says stupid insensitive stuff all the time even when i think he's supposed to be being sweet. Bodie is similar i couldn't quite like her the way i wanted either. By the end of the book i just wanted Bodie to kick Cane to the curb permanently. I mean you can only take so much BS from a man you know. Did not work for me. 2 out of 5 stars for Wyoming Fierce.
