Book review: King Cobra (Hot Rods #1) by Jayne Rylon

 photo jayne_zps4d18a383.jpg

Available now!
Nothing’s sexier than seven men with hot rods.

Hot Rods, Book 1

After Eli’s mother died, his father honored her life’s mission as a social worker by taking in several kids from the wrong side of the tracks. Not all of them stuck, but those who did became Eli’s quasi family.

Their bonds, forged in fires set by their personal demons, are unbreakable—or so Eli wants to believe. Especially since he and Alanso, his best friend and head mechanic, witnessed the overpowering allure of polyamory while visiting the Powertools crew.

Much as Eli would like to deepen the relationships among his foster brothers and sister in the Hot Rods Restoration Team, he’s hesitant to risk everything on a quick romp behind a stack of tires.

But when Eli catches Alanso exploring their mutual fantasy at a known hookup spot in a public park, all bets are off. And Eli must decide if it’s time to jump in full throttle—and trust his instincts to guide him through the night. If the pair of mechanics can dodge the potholes in their own relationship, maybe they can race together toward the unconventional arrangement with Mustang Sally they both desire.

Warning: Fasten your seatbelts, this is going to be a wild (and naughty) ride!

Wow! Jayne Rylon has done it again. King Cobra is book one in the HOT RODS series. Kind of a spin off from the Power tools series.  The series is about a group of mechanics led by Eli London.  In one of  the Power Tools series books Eli and Alanso another of the mechanics visit the crew and get a eyeful of how their relationships work. Ever since then things have been tense between the two mechanics.  It finally comes down to embracing what might be or possibly losing what they have. This book is sizzling hot erotica, down and dirty. Be warned a head of time. There is a lot of history between the member of this group. Eli's dad took each one under his wing and helped them get to be where they are now and Eli became their leader and is very protective of them all.  All the mechanics are introduced in this book but the main focus is Alanso and Eli and a little of Sally.  I think this series is a going to be a slow burn that gets hotter and hotter as you read! 4 out of 5 stars for King Cobra by Jayne Rylon.

Book review: The Reason is You by Sharla Lovelace

 photo lovelace_zpsc4363bb9.jpg

Reissue May 7, 2013
In the small town of Bethany, Texas, Dani never fit in. Being different pushed her to the fringes of society, and even leaving town for two decades didn’t stop the talk. Now she’s back, trying to settle in with her daughter and have a normal life. But the men in her life might not make it that simple. First, there’s her old friend Alex. He’s mischievous, sexy, and still hot enough to melt her shoes. And he’s a ghost—a real one, who’s always been there for her when she most needed him. Of course, there are actual men in Bethany, too. Like Jason with his hard body. Dani seems to have a habit of running into him—literally. Now she must decide between a man who long ago touched her heart and a man she can actually touch

I have never read this author before. She was giving away copies of this book for honest reviews and the blurb sounded interesting to me so i signed up to get one. It came in the mail a couple days ago and I immediately started reading. I only made it to page 86 the first night. Got a late start so that's pretty good for me in a couple hours of reading time. I was drawn in pretty quickly.  I don't even know where to start. This was a such a different book for me. Book starts out with Dani moving back home with her teenage daughter. Same old people same old thing. People never seemed to change. Growing up was difficult for her because starting as a young child she could see dead people. Talk to them and she didn't realize for a long while no one else could see them which made her a freak in the eyes of her peers. When Dani is 16 she meets Alex a man who died the day she was born and he came her best friend.  She doesn't realize that at the time but in present time she does and along with that a lot of other things start coming to light.  Dani also finds out her daughter can see Alex and other dead people too. No she fears for what will happen with her daughter if people find out. In the midst of all this she starts working in a bait shop and meets and falls for the owner Jason. Who has some issues of his own.  There is a very complicated love story or two going on and you can't help but feel grief for the characters and want things to work out for everyone. This book is funny, and quirky and will just draw you right through. The story and writing make you feel so many different things from laughter to tears. You start it and don't want to put it down which is my favorite kind of book. 5 out 5 stars for The Reason is you by Sharla Lovelace.

Book review: Summer He Came home (Bad Boys of Crystal Lake #1) by Juliana Stone

 photo 15746103_zps7ef59a4c.jpg
Available now!
Sometimes the best place to find love is right back where you started…

Falling asleep in a different bed every night has made it easy for Cain Black to forget his past. It’s been ten years since he packed his guitar and left Crystal Lake to chase his dreams. Now tragedy has forced him home again. And though Cain relishes the freedom of the road, one stolen moment with Maggie O’Rourke makes him wonder if he’s missing out on something bigger than fame.

For Maggie—single mother and newly settled in Crystal Lake—love is a luxury she just can’t afford. Sure, she appreciates the tall, dark and handsome looks of prodigal son Cain Black. But how long can she expect the notorious hellion to stay?

The last thing either of them wants is something complicated. But sometimes love has its own plans.

They were the four bad boys of Crystal Lake, Michigan growing up. Now they're together again to bury one of their own. Cain Black was the rocker of the group. He left years ago to pursue that dream never thinking he would come back finally to attend a funeral of one of his best friends. First thing he does is meet Maggie's son and then her.  He is intrigued by her. She's kind of a mystery to her since no one seems to know much about her history. Cain also reunites with the two remaining bad boys, Mac and Jake. Jesse was the other one and he was Jake's twin brother and whose funeral they are home for)  Maggie is really reluctant to let Cain in through the whole book. Slowly he wins her over and her son falls much easier. Maggie has some pretty deep secrets and slowly she tells Cain more about herself and opens herself up. Not a easy thing for her to do. Things go horribly wrong at one point and it takes a lot to get a good ending. First thing i liked about this book is that is takes place in Michigan where i was born and raised and now live so i knew several of the places mentioned in the book.   I liked all the characters. They weren't perfect, they were very real and flawed.  The story was well paced. There were parts of the book that were so intense i was holding my breath a bit reading. You get a glimpse into all the secondary characters coming in the next couple books but the emphasis is still on the main couple. Great start to a new series! 5 out of 5 stars for Summer He Came Home by Juliana Stone.

Guest Post and giveaway! Breathing His Air by author Debra Kayn

Everyone loves an anti-hero. Readers snap up books were the hero is emotionally wounded, keeps to himself, and no one can get past his protective shell…except the heroine. Often times he comes across as brash with an "I don't give a frick" attitude. But, what if the book you're reading has an anti-heroine? Is she a badass with an attitude?

Not always.

In Breathing His Air, there's a sexy hardcore biker dude. He's bossy, controlling, and doesn't care what others think about him. His motorcycle club comes first, and that's his life. He's not an anti-hero. He actually has his act together!

The heroine, who owns a cute mobile coffee shack, hands out love advice with every cup, and seems to draw a crowd wherever she goes is the anti-heroine. Are you shocked?

A lot of my early ARC readers and reviewers were taken by surprise. They read the blurb, figured the heroine for a bubbly blonde who was a bit of a goof, who ended up smack dab in the middle of a territory war between the Bantorus MC and the Langsturns MC.

As with real life, we often see what others want us to see. The cashier at the store who always asks about your dog might go home to an abusive husband. The florist, who surrounds herself with beautiful flowers and witnesses other people's showing of love every day, suffers from depression. The young lady who helped you put your groceries in your car grew up in twenty foster homes and is currently living on the street. We only see what others show us.

I hope you enjoy getting to know Tori from Breathing His Air, and her story. She's a lot deeper than first impressions. Her story could shock you, but I think once you see inside her head, you'll respect her even more for what she's experienced. And, you'll see why Rain will do anything to keep her alive.

TORI BALDWIN spends all her time traveling the states, running a mobile Coffee Shack and handing out love advice with every cup. She’s staked her rig in the parking lot of Cactus Cove—a local biker bar by all appearances— and plans to stay put for three months. Just long enough to make some money, without making any friends, before she moves to her next destination as she tries to stay ahead of a painful past.

RAIN BROOKSHIRE is the leader of the Bantorus motorcycle club, and owner of the Cactus Cove in the small town of Pitnam, Washington. He wants the Lagsturns, a rival-bad-news motorcycle club, to leave town before they infect his town with trouble. He doesn’t trust them after his ex-girlfriend hooked up with Sanchez, the Lagsturns’ leader, and screwed him over.
With bullets flying and the Lagsturns putting on the pressure, the only way to keep Tori safe—since she refuses to leave town—is for Rain to claim her as his woman. She has no idea that Rain’s played his hand for all to see in the biker world. It doesn't help that Tori exhibits the three ideal classifications of his ideal woman—Classy, Sexy, and a total Goof— and he can't help but posture and lay down the law. But, when it appears Tori’s life is in danger, and the Lagsturns are innocent, he isn’t going to let the law stop him from keeping his woman safe.

She is love advice in a coffee shack, he's protection in a biker bar. When her past meets his present, it's a killer cocktail that might get them shot, stabbed, or otherwise dead.

But, when it appears Tori’s life is in danger, and the Lagsturns are innocent, he isn’t going to let the law stop him from keeping his woman safe.

This is one of the only a few motorcycle club type books i have read. Book starts out with Tori and her mobile coffee shop on wheels parked in the lot from Rain's biker Bar.  Takes all of a handful of pages to meet Rain and his alpha male tendencies. He comes out of the gate in bossy protection mode. Tori  appreciates the protection when a handful of guys from a biker gang try to intimidate her but she's her own boss and Rain needs to understand that. Rain tries to run her off for her own protection but Tori is tougher than he thinks. Soon he realizes something is going on with her. He's attracted to her but he was burned pretty bad by another woman before and he can't decide is she's like that woman or is she is innocent and a bit naive.  Then someone targets her and bad things start happening. Her story starts coming out and she finds eventually the men and woman in Rain's motorcycle club look at her as family and want to protect her.   I had a few problems with some word choices but nothing that bothered me that much i wouldn't recommend the book to others. I loved Rain's character. He's this big alpha guy and here's Tori who is damaged and he's got to balance protecting her with helping her heal. 4 out of 5 stars for Breathing his Air by Debra Kayn.

Book review: Bare It All (Love Undercover #2) by Lori Foster

 photo 13562581_zps4fa2623c.jpg

Available April 30, 2013

"A cop's craving to know more about the woman next door could prove fatal in the steamy new novel from New York Times bestselling author Lori Foster"

As the person responsible for taking down a brutal human trafficker, Alice Appleton fears retaliation at every turn. No one knows about her past, which is exactly how she prefers it...until the sexy cop next door comes knocking.

Detective Reese Bareden thinks he knows what makes women tick, but his ever-elusive neighbor keeps him guessing like no other. Is his goal to unmask Alice's secrets? Or protect her from a dangerous new threat? One thing is certain: their chemistry is a time bomb waiting to explode. And with no one to trust but each other, Reese and Alice are soon drawn into a deadly maze of corruption, intrigue and desire-and into the line of fire...

Bare it All is book 2 in the Love Undercover series. I am really excited about this series. It's a branch off the Men with Walk the Edge of Honor series. Alice is a secondary character from Trace Rivers book Trace of Fever. We met Reese in book one and for me he was a bit of a mystery. At the end of that book his apartment was the scene of crime so he's without a apartment but luckily Alice, his neighbor takes him in. He's intrigued by her and her secrets and decides he needs to figure her out. It doesn't take long for the attraction to become obvious for both of them.  I will admit i could not remember who Alice was. It's been a while since i read Trace of Fever. I was told when she explains some of her history to Reese i would remember. It came back really fast when she did. Alice had got a lot of secrets. Reese needs to know those secrets and because of some of them Alice inadvertantly finds herself in danger.  It takes most of the book to get all the details out and when it happens there is a character that makes an appearance i wanted to cheer for.Not going to tell you who it but you can probably guess. Rowdy gets a decent size chunk of this book and you get some insight into him. Some of it i liked some of it i didn't. You also get a tiny peak at Dash who is Logan's brother from book one.   I enjoyed this book from start to finish. Really excited for the next two book which will focus on Rowdy and Dash according to the author's website. Thoroughly enjoying the series. 4 out of 5 stars for Bare it All by Lori Foster.

Book review: Too Hot to Handle (Jackson #2) by Victoria Dahl

 photo 16000951_zpsadff3d41.jpg

This good girl's going bad…. Merry Kade has always been the good girl. The best friend. The one who patiently waits for the guy to notice her. Well, no more. Merry has just scored her dream job, and it's time for her life to change. As the new curator of a museum in Wyoming, she'll supervise a lot of restoration work. Luckily she's found the perfect contractor for the job.

Shane Harcourt can't believe that someone wants to turn a beat-up ghost town into a museum attraction. After all, the last thing he needs is the site of his dream ranch turning into a tourist trap. He'll work on the project, if only to hasten its failure…until the beautiful, quirky woman in charge starts to change his mind.

For the first time ever, Merry has a gorgeous stud hot on her heels. But can she trust this strong, silent man, even if he is a force of nature in bed? When Shane's ulterior motives come out, he'll need to prove to Merry that a love like theirs may be too hot to handle, but it's impossible to resist

This is book 2 in the Jackson series but you can read either of these alone and be just fine. In this book we  get a better view of Shane who is Cole's friend from book 1 and Merry who is Grace's friend from book 1.  Merry is having a hard time figuring out where she belongs in this world. Nicknamed by family as a slacker and growing up poor without a dad she's had a rough time. She is usually perceived as just one of the guys by men she's not had good luck with men either. Finally she's got a job renovating a old ghost town into a museum town in Wyoming. A dream job for her as she enjoys the work and quickly falls in love with the ghost town. Unfortunately the job opportunity is not what it seems and the job might not remain hers. Trying to impress the people who hold the money she looks for a carpenter to spruce some things up so she can show how good it could be. Intro Shane Harcourt the carpenter. Yup! Shane is a Carpenter but he is also the land owner around the ghost town. He got the land but not the money from his grandfather's will when he died. He feels he should have gotten it so he's suing for it. Problem is Merry doesn't know that and she hires him. He likes her but doesn't know her and is hoping to glean info on what's going on by acting as her carpenter.  It all starts to fall to pieces when he starts falling for her and eventually the cat is out of the bag and there is of course trouble. I liked this one. Both characters actually had troubling pasts. Shane's dad disappeared as a kid and the uncertainty of that has always affected him. Merry has issues with her family and missing dad as well. I enjoyed the story, the sex scenes were great and the conflict was intense at times.  Both characters has issues to work through to find each other. Good solid read for me. 4 out of 5 stars for Too Hot to Handle by Victoria Dahl.

Book review: Love Irresistibly (FBI / US Attorney #4) by Julie James

 photo love_zps945ad3c4.jpg

Available now!
HE’S USED TO GETTING WHAT HE WANTS…

A former football star and one of Chicago’s top prosecutors, Assistant U.S. Attorney Cade Morgan will do anything to nail a corrupt state senator, which means he needs Brooke Parker’s help. As general counsel for a restaurant company, she can get a bug to the senator’s table at one of her five-star restaurants so the FBI can eavesdrop on him. All Cade has to do is convince Brooke to cooperate—and he’s not afraid to use a little charm, or the power of his office, to do just that.

AND WHAT HE WANTS IS HER.

A savvy businesswoman, Brooke knows she needs to play ball with the U.S. Attorney’s office—even if it means working with Cade. No doubt there’s a sizzling attraction beneath all their sarcastic quips, but Brooke is determined to keep things casual. Cade agrees—until a surprising turn of events throws his life into turmoil, and he realizes that he wants more than just a good time from the one woman with whom he could fall terrifyingly, irresistibly in love . .

This is book 4 in the FBI/Us Attorney series. I have read the previous books and all can stand on their own so no need to worry if you have not read the others yet. Assistant US Attorney Cade Morgan meets his match when he meets Brooke Parker. A lawyer herself and impressive at her job as general Counsel for Sterling restaurants. Brook is a workaholic and relationships don't seem to work out for her because of it. Cade is pretty tough too as a prosecutor he's at the top of his game. It's one of his cases that brings Brooke and Cade together. Fireworks fly when these two get together. They each have their issues to work out but the romance isdefinately there as they figure it out and each other. The pacing is even and the sex scenes are to die for.  Julie James knows how to rock it when she writes and this book definitely rocks. A great overall read all the way around. 4 out of 5 stars for Love Irresistibly by Julie James

Book review: Shades of Passion (Special Investigations Group (SIG) #3) by Virna DePaul

 photo 16000919_zpsd82be628.jpg

Available Now!
Shades of the past

Detective Simon Granger has devoted his life to solving high-risk cases, and he's vowed never again to get involved with a woman whose work is equally as dangerous. But when the Special Investigations Group teams him with a beautiful psychiatrist , his resolve is shattered by the tense and emotionally charged partnership....

Shades of intrigue

Determined to outrun the grief over her sister's death, Dr. Nina Whitaker reluctantly agrees to use her training to help the police. Despite Detective Granger's disdain for her profession, she believes she can change his mind. But then a grieving father begins a deadly game of revenge, threatening Nina's life, challenging her beliefs, and drawing Nina and Simon together in an explosive endgame of intrigue...and unstoppable passion.

Shades of passion...

This is book 3 in the Special Investigations Group series or SIG as it is often referred to in the books. We met Simon in book one and got a little more of him in book two when the woman he had been involved with was murdered. Now he finds himself face to face with a woman who looks quite a bit like Lana, the woman he lost and she is a psychiatrist as well just like Lana. Now what? He's stuck with her shadowing him on the job but being close to her is dangerous for various reasons he doesn't want to think about to closely. Nina doesn't really want to shadow Simon she is a giver though and is guilted into helping out her boss to shadow Simon and observe the how the police deal with suspects who suffer from mental illness.  Both Simon and Nina have things in their pasts they are struggling with. Simon's ex-girlfriends murder and Nina's sisters suicide and the suicide of a young patient a few years ago. Unfortunately things turn deadly when homeless men turn up dead and with initials carved in their backs which looks like someone is after Nina. Simon thinks he knows who is doing it but things are not adding up after a while. This is is a raw thrill ride of suspense, mystery and murder. The author kept me guessing the whole book. I could never get a good bead on who the killer could be and was surprised at the outcome. Most times you can usually get idea where things are going but Virna DePaul doesn't even give you a inkling. All the books in this series are like this. The thriller/suspense part of this book is in full evidence in this book but the romantic sexy side is equally delicious. 4 out of 5 stars for Shades of Passion by Virna Depaul.

Book review: Beyond Control (Beyond #2) by Kit Rocha

 photo 16049677_zpsb5f56dbe.jpg

Available as of March 14th
She refuses to be owned.

Alexa Parrino escaped a life of servitude and survived danger on the streets to become one of the most trusted, influential people in Sector Four, where the O’Kanes rule with a hedonistic but iron fist. Lex has been at the top for years, and there’s almost nothing she wouldn’t do for the gang…and for its leader. Lie, steal, kill—but she bows to no one, not even Dallas O’Kane.

He’ll settle for nothing less.

Dallas fought long and hard to carve a slice of order out of the chaos of the sectors. Dangers both large and small threaten his people, but it’s nothing he can’t handle. His liquor business is flourishing, and new opportunities fuel his ambition. Lex could help him expand his empire, something he wants almost as much as he wants her. And no one says no to the king of Sector Four.

Falling into bed is easy, but their sexual games are anything but casual. Attraction quickly turns to obsession, and their careful dance of heady dominance and sweet submission uncovers a need so deep, so strong, it could crush them both.

Beyond Control is book 2 in the Beyond series by Kit Rocha. It continues the series with Lex (Alexa) and Dallas (Declan). Dallas is the king if Sector 4. What he says goes. The only one who every got around that is Lex. Lex does a stupid thing and forces Dallas to claim her and Mark her as his when he collars her. They'll either finally work out there differences and secrets or they'll crash and burn.  Lot's of Alpha guys in this series but they are matched against women who are not pushed easily around which makes it fun to read. Watching Lex and Dallas try to figure out how to love each other and yet run sector 4 and not show weakness to those watching is a interesting journey. We get to see more of the other sectors and their leaders and more of the other characters in the series. All of this helps expand the world the book takes place in but does not take away from the time dedicated to Dallas as Lex. Alot goes on but you don't get lost in it all. The author finds the right balance of all the elements needed to make this a killer book. Sex scenes are fantastic and the relationships draw you in. Plus you get to see glimpses of what's coming next. Drool worthy reading. 4 out of 5 stars for Beyond Control by Kit Rocha.

She is love advice in a coffee shack, he's protection in a biker bar. When her past meets his present it's a killer cocktail that might get them shot, stabbed or otherwise dead.
