Book review: Beneath the Secrets part 2 (Tall, Dark and Deadly series) (serial) by Lisa Renee Jones

This is the last book is the Tall, Dark and Deadly series. The previous book came out as separate books but book 3 is being broken up into parts like a serial. I'm not a fan of this and would rather read it as a whole book but non the less I am still reading this. I have read the other books and part 1 so i want to finish it but also i have loved this series. One of my favorite series by this author.  Part 2 gives you another small piece of the story and takes about 45 minutes to read. Blake is trying to decide if Kara is the enemy or someone he needs to help and protect. Kara has some big secrets and she's not telling. Not the Blake isn't giving it his all to find out. Kara has  the same problem as Blake though. She's trying to decide if Blake is a bad guy or a good guy. By the end of this part of the serial though the gig appears to be up for Kara. You'll have to wait til part 3 to find out though. The writing is awesome. I love the characters but i don't like it broken down into parts. You barely get started and it's over. If i rate it based on the writing i could give it 5 out of 5 stars, but if i rate it based on the amount i get to read for each part I would have to lower it. To what i'm not sure. It's frustrating. Do you like serials? If yes how long do you think each part should be? I don't mine them but i think it should be long enough to get somewhere and should be a serial from the beginning and that is my problem here. I'll still read the next two parts though of course. lol

Book review: If I Were You (book 1 Inside out Trilogy) by Lisa Renee Jones

If I Were You


FIFTY SHADES OF GREY MEETS BASIC INSTINCTS

Chris is dark, and so are his desires, but I cannot turn away.

He is rich and famous, and dark in ways I shouldn’t find intriguing, but I do. I so do.

I don’t understand why his dark side appeals to me, but the attraction between us is rich with velvety promises of satisfaction. Chris is dark, and so are his desires, but I cannot turn away.

He is damaged beneath his confident good looks and need for control, and in some way, I feel he needs me. I need him.


I'm not even sure where to start with this book. Took me longer to read than any book normally would. The fact that it's a serial trilogy hurts it for me. I don't like having to wait to see how it ends. If you like to be held in suspense waiting until the next book comes out your fine. Sara is a school teacher on summer break. Her friend elopes and runs off on a honeymoon with a mysterious man we never meet. Sara is concerned about this but there is nothing she can really do. Her friend gives her the keys to a storage unit she bought at auction and it must be cleaned out. She's told do whatever she wants with the stuff inside. There are journals from a woman inside that are dark and steamy and sexual in nature. Little bit dangerous and scary as well. Sara decides she's going to try and find this woman that wrote them and see what happened to her. She goes to the art gallery the woman worked at and lucks into her job. ( she's qualified for it btw)  She meets two men. The owner of the gallery Mark who is a bit demanding and controlling and a tad scary. She also meets Chris a artist who is dark and damaged by things in his past. Most of the book is spent on Sara's relationship with Chris. You get to see bits and pieces of him and Sara as they spend time together. The whole time though it seems as if perhaps Mark and Chris are playing a game of one upmanship and using her to do it. Sara really makes no headway at all on where the missing woman is. By the time she does actually try it's the end of the book and your left with a cliffhanger. Honestly i was tossed and turned around on this book. The first 1/4 wasn't as interesting. After that it really took off with Chris and Sara getting to know each other a little. I want to say I loved Chris and hope i won't be disappointed in the end. There are lots of secrets and you get tiny glimpses into these as you read along. The sex scenes were phenomenal. I think the reason i had such a hard time sometimes while reading is it is a 3 part series so it continues on in pieces til the end of book 3. Therefore the pacing will be different than say a book that has a beginning and ending.  Will i read books 2 and 3? Absolutely! The book conflicted me as much as the characters in the book were conflicted. lol This is a book series that you can sink your teeth into and enjoy the ride until the very end. 4 out of 5 Modokker Book Picks starrs for If I were you  by Lisa Renee Jones.

This is the 2nd book in the Tall, Dark and Deadly series but Lisa Renee Jones. The series is about the three Walker brothers and the women they love. Book one was Royce and Lauren's book and book two is Luke and Julie which will leave Blake for book three. In book one you get a intro into all the brothers.  They are all tall, capable and sexy as hell. They have the kind of relationship you wish you could  have with your siblings. Family loyalty to each other. In this book Luke had a relationship of sorts with Julie before. A month long affair while he was still a Navy seal. When they parted ways he felt there was something more there but wasn't sure Julie felt the same.  Now they find themselves together again when they are both trying to catch a flight home for Royce and Lauren's wedding ( Lauren is Julie's best friend). Seems like they end up stranded by a snow storm at the same hotel. Julie has a problem though. At the hotel she feels like she's being watched. The threat follows her home.  It seems the judge she is representing in a divorce might be up to no good and his soon to be ex comes to see her to warn her and next thing you know the wife is dead. Supposedly committed suicide but she's cremated and buried before if can be investigated. Now someone is after Julie because they thinks she knows something. Luke's protective instincts kick in and in turn heats up the vibes between the two. Lots of action, mystery, great sex scenes and figuring out who exactly is the bad guy. I loved the dialog between the brothers and between Luke and Julie and although throughout the book Julie is kind of dragging feet she really catches up fast at the end. Great book. 5 out of 5 Modokker Book Picks Stars for Dangerous Secrets by Lisa Renee Jones.

Book review: The Danger that is Damion( book 3 Zodious series) by Lisa Renee Jones

General Powell from book 1 has returned and he’s developed a way to create and control a new generation of female GTECHs. He plans to use these women to bring both, the Renegades and the Zodius soldiers, back under his command. The world will be his. Now, Damion, a Renegade, who readers met in book two, will be pitted against one of those soldiers, a woman destined to be both his Lifebond and his enemy. Damion will become her only hope of salvation and their trust in each other the only chance they have to save the world from a madman.


This is the third book in the Zodious series by Lisa Renee Jones. In this one Damion Browne finds his lifebond in Lara Martin. Problem is all Renegades are Lara's enemies or so she is brainwashed to think. Damion captures/saves her when her assassination attempt on a Russian nuclear scientist. She's supposed to shoot him but can't. She keeps getting flashes of what she thinks is her family being murdered in from  of her and the Russian has little kids. Damion comes up on her and she seems to be lost in herself. Sabrina  who we met in the last book as the ICE drug dealer is back this time the leader of a group of female GTECH's called Serenity. These females are converted to GTECH and then brainwashed and that's what happened to Lara. Sabrina is the only one not brainwashed and their leader.  Something is wrong with new GTECH female soldiers from Serenity. Lara keeps having blackouts and odd dreams and hallucinations. Damion has to try and help her figure it all out while keeping her from getting killed.  This series has just sucked me in. Every book so far just grabs me. I think it's alpha males and the fact that the women they get paired up with are strong and sexy and smart and can kick ass all on their own. At the same time both the male and female leads can be vulnerable too. Plenty of action and suspense too to go with it. I find myself not only interested in the lead character of the book but all the secondaries too and watching for signs as to whose story might be next and can i glean any info as to who their lifebond might be. It's lots of fun. This is another great read by author Lisa Renee Jones. I've tried a few of the different genre's she writes and have not been disappointed yet.  4 out of 5 Modokker Book Pick stars. Bring on the next Zodious book!!

Secrets Exposed is a prelude novel to the new Lisa Renee Jones Tall Dark and Deadly series. I read a little backward and started with Hot Secrets book 1 in this series. Mark and Lindsey have a small part in it and i found out they had their own book so i needed to check it out.  Lindsey is this confident got it together attorney until she defends a guy accused of rape and wins and the very next day he supposedly rapes and kills a woman. Guilt from that follows her wherever she goes. Her father and her ex-boyfriend are controlling men and between the guilt from the trial and her father and ex she decides she needs a change and joins the FBI and moves to Washington. Unfortunately her father becomes ill from cancer and she has to come back and run his firm. Moving back even temporarily bring with it all the guilt and anxiety from before. Mark Reeves she thinks is her answer. She knows his reputation as an attorney and that he and her dad used to get along until they had a falling out. She needs his help to run the ailing firm that's falling apart and face a new case she inherits from her father that's similar to the rapist case that caused her to lose her nerve. I liked this book but no where near as much as i liked Hot Secrets. I think you can tell how much Lisa Renee Jones has grown as a writer since writing this. There were quite a bit of typos that i can most of the time over look but it got to be annoying. The other thing that was a bit annoying is every time Mark seemed to be getting Lindsey to trust him she would pull out the," He's just trying to control me" card. I get that she has been burned but it was to much finally for me. I had to try and block that out to enjoy the story. Mark is awesome. Plenty of patience and understanding. Lindsey's friend Steve from the FBI is great too. I would love to see him end up in another book. I will say i never guessed who the bad guy was and i had a guess or two. The sex scenes were very sensual and exciting. You could definitely feel the heat between the two characters. I really wanted to tell Lindsey to get a clue and not let Mark get away though. lol She finally complied. Secrets Exposed is a sexy little read with just the right amount of suspense. It can be read as a stand alone though but is connected to the new Tall, Dark and Dangerous series that started with book 1 Hot Secrets in January. 3 out of 5 Modokker Book Pick stars for Secrets Exposed. Book Review: Hot Secrets by Lisa Renee Jones

He gets asked to look into some threats to a senator's daughter and out of obligation agrees to see what he can find out. He finds himself with Lauren Reynolds the beautiful Assistant DA at her father the senator's birthday party.  Not long after that he already finds himself providing her with protection. Lauren is one tough chick though and it takes a lot to rattle her.  As the story progresses more and more the threats get that much more serious. Royce enlists his brothers Luke and Blake to help him try to figure out what's going on. All the while keeping the secret from Lauren that he is there for protection while in fact he is also in love with her.  This is fast paced story. Filled with action, suspense and thrills. You get to meet all 3 of the Walker brothers and let me tell you they all come across as hot and sexy and capable. Try to guess who the bad guy is. I had several thoughts to who it might be but never could nail down who was behind the threats to Lauren. This is one of those read in one sitting books that i love. 4 out of 5 Modokker Book Pick stars for Hot Secrets by Lisa Renee Jones.

I started going to Vegas a couple times a year back in my corporate days. For the first few years, I did a lot of just seeing everything and very little gambling. Then one night I stopped at a roulette table and the rest is history. I LOVE roulette. It’s exciting, wild and crazy – just like Sterling!

In the Zodius series the Renegades have an inner city headquarters beneath NEONOPOLIS which is a real place.

Neonopolis, a 250,000 sq ft shopping mall, is a $100 million entertainment complex in Las Vegas, Nevada located on top of a $15 million city parking garage. It is located on the Fremont Street Experience, at the corner of Las Vegas Boulevard. In keeping with the complex's name, it contains three miles of neon lights.



Ironically its one of the few places in Vegas I’ve never been!

The Storm that is Sterling is the 2nd book in the Zodious series. Book one The Legend of Michael  came out in May of this year and i really enjoyed it. This series is a a romantic suspense with a twist. These are your military alphas that so many of us enjoy but hopped up on alien DNA later known as GTECH's. Government experiments on soldiers produced these super soldiers who is turn eventually went rogue in two different factions when the government sought to get rid of them. They are the Renegades and the Zodious soldiers ran by twin brothers, Caleb and Adam Rain. One good and one evil. Sterling is one of the Renegades. A good guy who had kind of a rough life until he found his niche in the Army. Sterling is leading the fight to get rid of ICE an addicting drug put on the streets by Adam Rain. He is assigned to pick up a scientist one Rebecca (Becca) Burns who they hope will help them counteract the drug. One problem. Becca has cancer and is dying and Sterling has a past with her. Before Sterling can get her stashed away though she is taken by one of Adam's Zodious soldiers along with him.  This is a fast paced story. You're left with some guessing as to what's going on and who is who and how's it all going to end up all right. Or is it going to be alright. Lisa Renee Jones gives you a bit of a thrill ride all the way through and leaves you guessing as to what's next at the end of the book. I am loving her characters and I especially can't wait for Caleb (leader of the Renegades) to get his story and meet his  lifebond. This series is still revving up i think. 4 out of 5 Modokker Book Pick stars for The Storm that is Sterling.
