ARC book review: When We Met (Fool's Gold #13) by Susan Mallery
Available now!
ebook provided by publisher through Netgalley
Angel Whittaker earned his scars the hard way, but the scars that can't be seen are the ones that haunt him the most. Since he moved to Fool's Gold, California, he's cobbled together a life for himself as a bodyguard trainer. If he's not exactly happy, at least his heart is safe.
Working with pro-football superstars taught tough-talking PR woman Taryn Crawford one thing—she can go toe to toe with any man. But then dark, dangerous former Special Ops Angel targets her for seduction…and challenges her to resist his tempting kisses.
Even in four-inch heels, Taryn never backs down. Unless, somehow, Angel can convince her that surrender might feel even better than victory.
Susan Mallery's Fools Gold series is going strong with this 13th book in the series. I have no idea how she keeps it fresh and keeps track of all the coming and going in this series but the results are easy to see.
Angel Whittaker stepped into Fool's Gold in a cloud of mystery. When he first appeared he was scarred and dark with a "don't even look at me" vibe. He seemed pretty untouchable. Turns out there is a reason for him putting off that vibe. Angel lost his wife and child while serving in the military. He feels guilty for not being there when they needed him. He got out and now he's in Fools Gold with his friends from his military days to start a body guard business. Something he can use his skills for and have some kind of a life. Taryn Crawford comes to Fool's Gold with her PR business Score. Her ex-husband and two other ex-football players put the business together and they recently moved from the big city. Taryn is a big city girl and not happy to be out in small town america. Fool's Gold is way to sappy for her and she can't get over the fact that people do things for each other just because and not to get something in return. A concept she doesn't understand. Then Taryn meets Angel and sparks fly. He tells her they are inevitable! No matter how cool Taryn seems on the inside she's all fluff which becomes apparent when she teams up with Angel to help a Acorn troop of girls. Angel is a bit appalled at first that he's going to be taking on a pack of little girls but with Taryn there to hold his hand he finds it's very worth while. It's interesting to see these two make their way to each other. Both have pretty big walls up around themselves but they slowly chip them away. When Taryn commits the ultimate mistake in a relationship that's not supposed to be a relationship it just might be over for good. Susan Mallery's Fools Gold series is going strong with this 13th book in the series. I have no idea how she keeps it fresh and keeps track of all the coming and going in this series but the results are easy to see. Amazing character's with real feel relationships and sexy loves scenes and a sense of family.
