Slow Ride Home! Interview and Giveaway with Leah Braemel

 photo SlowRideHome_LeahBraemel_zps670b31fb.jpg

Losing his father was hard enough, but now Ben Grady must face the fact that he and his brother may not be sole owners of their beloved ranch. To protect his family’s legacy, he’s forced to rely on the legal prowess of the woman who stars in his erotic fantasies: Allie O’Keefe. Ben’s never forgotten the illicit encounter they shared fifteen years ago—or forgiven himself for letting her go.
Allie thought she’d moved beyond the scandal that cost her Ben in the past. But working so closely with the seductive rancher arouses the wild child within the cautious woman she’s become. Though she tries to keep business and pleasure separate, Allie soon gives in to temptation, and discovers Ben’s sensual skills surpass even her X-rated memories…

Allie has every intention of leaving Bull’s Hollow forever after her investigation is complete. But there are a few complications. Not the least of which is that while saving the ranch, Allie’s lost her heart.
I'm excited to bring you this short interview i did with the fabulous Leah Braemel! I was lucky enough to spend some time with her this past summer at Lori Foster's Readers and Authors Get Together in Ohio.
1. Slow Ride Home is a different kind of book for you. Can you tell us a little about it and how you approached writing it that was different from your other work?

I’m guessing that by “a different kind of book” you mean one that doesn’t include a menage? While I did originally include a flashback to the menage Ben, Allie and Logan had fifteen years before, I couldn’t see having a modern day menage being true to Allie’s character and my editors asked me to reduce the element to a reference so readers wouldn’t expect another.

Another comment I’ve heard is about how there is a mystery element to it where Ben and Allie must prove if there is a lost Grady relative , though I didn’t think of it as being a mystery when I wrote it, and it’s not shelved as a mystery. I think readers of my Hauberk series are more likely to be familiar with that style of my writing, where the Tangled readers might be surprised.

2. What keeps you motivated to keep writing when you experience a big setback?

Sheer stubbornness? A binding legal contract to produce the book also helps in the motivation department. Though I must admit that there have been a lot of days when I’m declared to my family that “I’m done,” one of my biggest motivators to keep me sitting at my keyboard is opening up my email or Facebook and finding a note from someone who has read my previous books who had to let me know that they found something in them that they liked. I’d feel like I was letting them down if I walked away. So here I still am, plugging away.

Having said that, I don’t know if I could stop writing in itself. I’ve always had stories going through my head, and I’ve always written them down. What would change if I got that ‘big setback’ that I couldn’t get over, is that I’d go back to the way I worked before 2007 — I’d keep writing the stories but leave them on my hard drive unpublished.

3. If you had to start all over again in your writing career what would be the one piece of advice you would give yourself?

“Don’t wait so long to try” or maybe I’ll borrow the old Nike slogan of “Just Do It!”

Although I’d been writing since I was a pre-teen, I constantly heard “everyone has a novel they want published; what makes you think you’re any different/could succeed?” from almost everyone and “you suck” from the one person who had seen my writing before the mid 1990s. The only way I could stop the stories from going through my head was to write them down, but I didn’t show anyone my work until around 2004. Which meant I was in my mid-40s. I’d love to know what I could have accomplished if I’d started in my 20s, or even my 30s.

4. Your new release "Slow Ride Home" is book one in a trilogy. Can you tell us about the other Grady Legacy books? Can you tell us anything about future books?

No Accounting for Cowboys, book 2 in the Legacy trilogy, will be Jake’s story. As readers of Slow Ride Home discover, Jake’s been keeping some secrets. In his book, he’s faced with several tough choices regarding his future and has to decide what path he should take. (With the help of Paige, the brand new accountant the family brings in to sort out their books.) Wrangling the Past

5. You’re stuck on a secluded island. Would you want the company of a really sexy man or a really good book. Which would you choose and why?

A really sexy man — because for me a sexy man is muscular and also very handy. So he’ll be able to build me shelter and find me food and as well as treat me like a goddess as I write my own books. ;)

Book Review: Slow Ride Home (The Grady Legacy #1) by Leah Braemel

 photo SlowRideHome_LeahBraemel_zps670b31fb.jpg

Available November 11th
Losing his father was hard enough, but now Ben Grady must face the fact that he and his brother may not be sole owners of their beloved ranch. To protect his family's legacy, he's forced to rely on the legal prowess of the woman who stars in his erotic fantasies: Allie O'Keefe. Ben's never forgotten the illicit encounter they shared fifteen years ago—or forgiven himself for letting her go.

Allie thought she'd moved beyond the scandal that cost her Ben in the past. But working so closely with the seductive rancher arouses the wild child within the cautious woman she's become. Though she tries to keep business and pleasure separate, Allie soon gives in to temptation, and discovers Ben's sensual skills surpass even her X-rated memories…

Allie has every intention of leaving Bull's Hollow forever after her investigation is complete. But there are a few complications. Not the least of which is that while saving the ranch, Allie's lost her heart.

This is the first book in a new contemporary series with characters with a painful past. Ben and Allie were inseparable as teens. Allie's dad worked on Ben's family ranch and his family didn't approve of Allie.  Several things happened back then that she thought forever would set them apart. Her dad got fired for stealing from the ranch and someone made a sex tape of Ben and his best friend Logan and her together.  She left town with her heart and pride broken. Now years later she's back and she's the one person who can help Ben sort out his legal problems. As a lawyer and claims investigator for his insurance company she's has to find out who is trying to steal a part of his ranch by claiming to be a long lost Grady heir.  Allie has to prove there is no heir and someone is committing fraud or Ben might lose the ranch.  In the midst of all that Ben and Allie get closer again and secrets come out.   There are several things going on in this story as it lays the ground work for the series and brings you the second chance love story of Ben and Allie.  There's a few bad guys in the mix and as the secrets start to unravel Allie and Ben get closer.  I liked how this story played out. Ben and Allie had a hard and painful break up but once Ben found out everything that happened to Allie during that time he sets out to win her back.  He never gives up and knows he has to do it slowly to gain her trust again. A hot mix of sizzling and sweet!! Great beginning to the series. I can't wait to see what happens next! 4 out of 5 stars for Slow Ride Home by Leah Braemel.

Book review: Red Hot Holiday! (Anthology) Anne Calhoun, K.A. Mitchell, Leah Braemel

Photobucket

Out on December 3rd 2012
I’ll be home for Christmas…to fulfill all your dreams.

This holiday, a Mountie is determined to get her man. A widow finds a fireman who ignites her passions again. And two men unsure of their commitment discover a happily ever after—and a blindfold—under their tree. No matter your desires, this collection of three shorts is bound to treat you to all the joys of the season.

Edited by Angela James, this anthology includes:

I Need You for Christmas by Leah Braemel
Breath on Embers by Annie Calhoun
Wish List by K.A. Mitchell

Red Hot Holiday is a tis the season type anthology of 3 sizzling erotica novella's. While i love anthologies i have trouble reigning in all my thoughts when it comes to reviewing them. First up is Wish List by K.A Mitchell.

Blindfolds. Handcuffs. Submission.
There's so much Jonah Kendrick hasn't tried, and so much he wants to explore. But just before Christmas he finds a ring box in his boyfriend's desk. Jonah panics. He loves Evan and their sex is hot, but how can Jonah be ready for forever, when there are so many items on his Naughty Bucket List? Desires that might drive Evan away.
Evan's noticed Jonah has been distant. His usually talkative and cheerful boyfriend is preoccupied. The seemingly straitlaced Evan stumbles across Jonah's wish list of sexual kinks, and Evan realizes he may not have to hide his true nature from Jonah after all. The Dom in him wants to see Jonah on his knees, begging, submitting, but Evan isn't sure Jonah's ready to accept what being Evan's sub would mean.
The two lovers must figure out how to share their hidden desires with each other before their secrets permanently damage their love.
This one is a male on male holiday erotica. Jonah and Evan are pretty different or so each one thinks. Jonah gets scared when he thinks a set of wedding rings he finds are for him and Evan. That gets him thinking about what he might be missing out on if he and Evan decide to stay together forever. He makes a wish list of sorts about sexual things he might want to try. Evan mistakenly finds it and decides to try at making some of them come through. When Jonah doesn't know is that Evan can easily fulfill that wish list. Evan was a Dom previously but he buried that part of himself away. Now it looks likes he might not have to. I enjoyed this one but sometimes i wanted to yell at Jonah and say duh? Can't you see what Evan is trying to show you? lol
Next up is I Need You for Christmas by Leah Braemel.
Ryan Porter is a sculptor, and beneath his callused hands, even the most rigid metals bend to his will. So, too, does his girlfriend Megan—a confident, strong woman who delights in submitting to Ryan’s dominance in the bedroom.
Megan is a Mountie, and she’s spent the past few years in the arctic following her career dreams. Family obligations kept Ryan at home, but their love survived the distance thanks to several hot visits. A Mountie always gets her man, and Megan is bound and determined to keep Ryan.
Now Megan’s with Ryan for the holidays…but how long will this visit last? She’s always been willing to do anything Ryan desires, but will he finally tell her that all he needs for Christmas is her?
In this novella Megan and Ryan have been together for years but mostly living apart and sustaining their relationship on visits. Megan is back though with a surprise for Ryan. Problem is Ryan has a surprise for her too. There are some really hot sex scenes in this novella involving a swing, rope and something made of marble. Ah a artist mind is very clever. The love and romance you feel coming off Megan and Ryan is sigh worthy. Megan being a Mountie is the tough one which is a bit of a flip from the guy being in that roll but it works. I loved both characters so much. Definite red hot read!
Lastly we have Breath  on Embers by Anne Calhoun. I have not read this author but i will be after reading this novella.
Christmas is the perfect time for Firefighter Ronan O’Rourke to take things to the next level with his sexually adventurous girlfriend. He knows she has feelings for him—and he’s sure of his feelings for her—but when Thea refuses his invitation to sample Christmas in New York City because what they share is nothing more than sheet-burning sex, Ronan sets out to change her mind.
Deep down Thea Moretti knows she cares for Ronan, but she can’t move past her grief over her late husband. Loud music and sex with Ronan are the only things she’s got that her feel alive, so she takes as much of both as she can get. She knows Ronan wants more, but during the darkest time of the year finding her way won’t be easy.
Ronan gambles everything and challenges Thea: one night of passion with him and another man. Can he prove to her that what they share isn’t just great sex but an emotional connection strong enough to last forever?

I  have to admit this one was my favorite. Ronan is a fireman in the city of New York. On St Patrick's day this year he met Thea Moretti. It doesn't take long to look into her eyes and see her pain. Ronan is a rescuer in his heart and has been there done that with grief given his line of work. Thea lost her husband in a terrible car accident and moves from Ohio to New York City to get away from all the memories. She's only surviving day to day really though. Then comes Ronan into her life. She's using him for sex and escape.  He wants more and he wants to help her be whole again the way she did that for him. Ronan is an amazingly patient and giving man. Thea is one tough cookie too but Ronan has to keep chipping at her and showing her it's OK to live again. Love this one. Touch my heart. I was rooting for Ronan and Thea the whole way. Warning there is a menage in this novella. Pretty steamy with Ronan's fellow firefighter Tim. Now i want to know more about this Tim guy and see a story for him.

Overall the whole anthology was well worth reading. You can get a taste of erotica in a few different forms so if you have not tried it this is a awesome place to start. Three super sexy hot reads in one ebook! 4 out of 5 stars for Red Hot Holiday!

Modokker's visits Lori Foster's Readers and Authors weekend (RAGT2012)

Wow so i got to go to my first readers and author's shindig. Can't call it a conference it was way to much fun to be that. My weekend trip started Friday morning about 8:30 AM when i left my small town in Michigan to head out to West Chester, Ohio which is just barely north of Cincinnati. After about 15 minutes in the car i was bored with my own company but about 6 and 1/2 hours later i made it to the Marriott in West Chester in one piece.  I was supposed to be meeting a old Army friend. Not that i consider either of us old or anything. lol My friend Sarah was coming in from Tennessee and was 3 hours in driving time behind me. OK so there i stood. Didn't know anyone or anything. Babe in the woods and all that. Couldn't find my way out of paper bag right then. I look around at the people standing all over and think OK now what? I turn around and there sits the lovely Jules Bennett. Who miracles of miracles recognizes me from my twitter picture. A friendly face in the sea of faces. After a few minutes chatting with Jules she's got to go and so as I'm saying goodbye  there walking towards me is Jill Shalvis who also recognizes me. I was told by many i look just like my twitter pic. I must look ok because no one ran away screaming. Chatted with Jill for a few minutes( who BTW is one of my fav authors. You should totally read her books). OK so yeah i have 2 more hours i think at this point to kill. I sit on this cute round couch chair and tweet on my iPhone. If your at #RAGT2012 and if that's possible bored I am sitting in front of the doors. Come say hello! Like 2 seconds later the wonderfully funny Dee Carney comes up and says HI! OK this is when i realize this is going to OK. It's going to be fun. As 6 pm is coming up and everyone is registered with their cute name badges and making their way into the ballroom for the pizza party i still have not seen Sarah ( my friend who met me there) and so i am standing there thinking,"um OK there for over 400 people in this ballroom and i don't see anyone i know to sit with, time to go hideout for a bit". Yes i thought that. Then the lovely Virna DePaul walks up and asks me if i need help. Isn't she sweet? She found me a seat at a really great table with some authors and readers and i had some really good conversation waiting for my friend  who finally gets there around 6 pm. No girlish screams because #1 the room is crowded with people and we don't want anyone thinking we're nuts and #2 we were starving and needed to eat pronto. It had been 21 years or so  since we last saw each other but it was like no time had passed and we chatted like girlfriends who know each other always do.

Anyway cutting to chase as they say. It was a really great weekend. I met tons of authors, readers and fellow bloggers, ate drank and was merry! Yes i did! It was a very comfortable setting once i got into the swing of things and everyone was friendly and nice and fun. Lori Foster and Duffy Brown and their families put a lot into this weekend. They have lots of help from volunteers too. I hope they all think it's well worth the effort but it's the best time I've had in ages. My friend Sarah and i plan to make it a yearly thing for us. I'm going to add some pics below. I didn't take as many as I should've and i have been kicking myself every since but here you go.
