ARC Book review: The Hitwoman Plays Courier (Confessions of a Slightly Neurotic Hitwoman #29) by J.B. Lynn

No good deed goes unpunished.

When Maggie Lee helps an old man who’s fallen, she ends up working as a courier for his well-to-do son.

Proud of herself for landing a legitimate job that doesn’t involve a windowless office, Maggie ignores red flags and the concerns of God that all may not be what it seems. She’s too busy traversing the landmines of literacy involving a certain mobster’s grandson and juggling the two men who both want more from their relationships with her.

Maggie’s already stressed out when things go wrong, really wrong, with a delivery. A man’s dead and the police know about her involvement with him.

With the help of her pets and the two men vying for her affections, Maggie must figure out what the heck is going on…or God may be lost forever.

Maggie has her hands full more than usual this time. Juggling her current man and one of her ex's is a struggle especially when she still has feelings for the ex. She can't seem to commit to anyone. Either way they are both there looking out for her and taking what they can get. Who knew hoping a old man up when he fell in the parking lot would lead to murder. Maggie agrees to be a courier for the old man's son. Seems simple enough but nothing ever is. This story for me was kind of  a hmm whatever at first. Maggie's undecidedness about the men in her life drives me nuts but she also never seems to have any down time from mayhem. The story finally for me and my patience picks up about halfway or farther in. Lot of little connections coming together to maybe form a bigger picture with all the players in this series.  The author keeps you guessing on who is doing what and with you all the time. Keeps things refreshed and interesting. In the end it really made this book good.

eARC Book review: Romancing the Rancher (The Millers of Morgan Valley #6) by Kate Pearce

Available December 28th 2021
eARC Provided by the publisher through Netgalley

Ranching will always run in Evan Miller's blood, but as the fifth son, he also wants to prove to his skeptical family that he can forge his own path. Drawn to the world of rodeo, Evan encounters Josie Martinez, half-sister of world champion bull rider Rio Martinez. He hopes Josie might show him the ropes--among other things--but Josie has priorities of her own...
Josie's not sure what she's doing at her brother's ranch when she should be at her office in San Francisco, fulfilling her dream of becoming young entrepreneur of the year. Ever since violence unexpectedly entered her life and her home, she's struggled to get her life back on track. The ranch offers a sanctuary--with one gorgeous exception: Evan. But is he just a distraction, or can their growing bond--and undeniable attraction--persuade Josie that her heart is big enough for work and love...

Evan Miller has always been the irresponsible one. He's the youngest son and so he's always just blended in. Josie is staying at her brother's place hiding out for a bit after something terrible happened to her. They get together at the rodeo and start hanging out. I wanted to like this one. It was OK. Evan seems immature at times and at times he seemed grown up and responsible. Josie seemed a lot older to me. Somewhere in there it just didn't work for me.

eARC Bok review: The Hitwoman Pays a Debt (Confessions of a Slightly Neurotic Hitwoman #28) by J.B. Lynn

Maggie Lee is a woman who pays her debts and now she’s running herself ragged.

When the mysterious Ms. Whitehat asks her to work at a dentist’s office to gain access to a safe, Maggie can’t say no.

She probably should have turned down her murder mentor, Patrick Mulligan, when he wants her to tail a suspicious cop, but she owes him.

And she also couldn’t refuse to help US Marshal Griswald when he requests her assistance to solve one last case before he retires.

Speaking of his retirement, Aunt Susan is planning the party of the century for him and she expects Maggie to bring a date.

But making it to the party on time may prove difficult since repaying her debts has resulted in Maggie doing a dangerous dance with a killer.

Poor Maggie. She doesn't have a normal life. Murder and Mayhem seem to follow her. Her family and friends try her patience and the men in her life give her fits. In this installment she has to do a job for the mysterious Ms Whitehat, help Patrick and Griswald with one last old cold case before he retires. She's never alone though since she has her crazy group  of animals to take her back. It's fun to watch what Maggie is going to have to do next. How the author keeps this series fresh and juggles the large and varies member of this series cast is pure art. Maggie's love life is complicated.  I used to root for Patrick and then Angel but I think I have switched to Gino now. In any case I hope Maggie finds love that sticks. Always action packed and keep you guessing story.
