Review: A Creed in Stone Creek by author Linda Lael Miller

I've been a big Linda Lael Miller fan for quite a while. I've read lots and lots of her books. I'm a big fan of the whole McKettricks/O'Ballivan/Creed series. A Creed in Stone Creek is the first in another set of 3 books this time from the Creed family. Below is a bit of a back of the book blurb.

When single attorney Steven Creed becomes the guardian of an orphaned five-year-old boy, he trades his big-city law firm for a ranch near his McKettrick kin in the close-knit community of Stone Creek, Arizona. Taking care of little Matt and fixing up his run-down ranch house with its old barn loosens something tightly wound inside him. But when Steven takes on the pro bono defense of a local teen, he meets his match in the opposing counsel—beautiful, by-the-book county prosecutor Melissa O’Ballivan. It’ll take one grieving little boy, a sweet adopted dog and a woman who never expected to win any man’s heart to make this Creed in Stone Creek know he’s truly found home.

I really enjoyed this book but something for me was missing. Thinking about it i wish we'd have seen more of Tess and Tom romance. They barely get a first date in which gets ruined and then at the end of the book.... Ok better now say it's a giveaway but i wanted more with the two of them. Perhaps they'll be more in the next book.  i really loved both Steven Creed and Melissa O'Ballivan's characters. Especially Steven but Linda Lael Miller always does a good job with the characters. Matt is a little 5 year old boy that Steven adopts after his parents both die. He was best friend with both parents. I mean come on that's a awe moment right there that he takes on the boy with no reservations. You've got to love him for that but it's how he deals with the sweet little boy that will get you. Both Melissa and Steven have things from their pasts to deal with in order to have a relationship. Broken hearts and all that. I'm not sure what else was missing for me in this book but it wasn't quite as good as her others. I can't pinpoint the cause of that feeling.  The next two book are about Steven's cousin Brody and Connor Creed who at this point in Steven book have a hate hate relationship. We'll see what that's about in the next book due out in May 2011. To find out about all the other books in this series ( there are many) you can go to Linda Lael Miller's website by click here. That should take you to a list of her books by series. Hunt around and you can find excerpts to her other books as well as this one or you can just click here to read a excerpt to A Creed in Stone Creek. Unfortunately I'm going to have to give A Creed in Stone Creek 3 and 1/2 Modokker Book Pick stars. This might be one of those series you have to warm up to. I'm hoping Connor's book will be better.

Book review: Cop Appeal by Ava Meyers

I ran across this book on another blog last week http://www.smutketeers.com/. The book sounded interesting so i looked it up on Amazon and lo and behold it was only .99 cents. Cheap price to try a new author out so i bought it and loaded it only my kindle. I believe this is a new author as i could only find two ebooks by her and they were both in this series aptly names The Red Hot- Cops series. I agree with that name. I've just read Cop Appeal so far which is the second in the series. Got them mixed up so I'll read the first one next. Little blurb to wet your whistle below.

People used to call her Sure-Thing-Sarah, but the only thing Sarah Larson’s sure about these days is her continuing desire and love for undercover cop Luke Anderson. Only Luke comes from money, and he’s the most honorable and sexually adventurous man she knows. Four years ago, she committed the biggest mistake of her life--fearing she wasn’t good enough for Luke, she left him to marry another cop. One, it turns out, who’s dangerously possessive.

Now, a year after her divorce is final, Luke is back and ready to show Sarah exactly what she’d been missing all this time. He’ll start by accepting her offer of mind-blowing sex in the event her marriage ever ends. Since Sarah’s a woman of her word, she gives in to Luke’s demands. For two days, she commits herself to pleasuring him and to being pleasured in return.

Eventually, Sarah’s old fears rise up to haunt her, but she’s seen the happiness she adds to Luke’s life. Their physical bond is spectacular, but there’s humor, affection, and tenderness there, too.

Sarah’s determined to give their relationship a chance, but first she must confide one final fear to Luke: That when her ex-husband, the man who’s been stalking her for weeks, learns of Luke’s return, he’ll make sure Sarah’s second chance at happiness is destroyed forever.

I'm just going to say that this book was a short book no idea on the page numbers because this kindle ebook still went by percents not pages. Ninety-nine cents was a steal as it had a great storyline to go with all the hot sex. Sarah has some self esteem problems and she didn't think she was good enough for Luke who comes from money so she pushed him away and hooked up and married another cop. He seemed nice until after they were married then he started getting scary possessive and controlling. Within 6 months Sarah's had enough and wants to file for divorce but Richard her then husband and now ex doesn't want a divorce and wants her back and scares her into backing off. She doesn't divorce him until a few years later when she's finally had enough of him and that's when he gets scary violent. Luke shows up at her door to reclaim her body and soul but Richard's still out there stalking her. Gotta read the book to see how this all plays out. For s short story erotica this had alot of story to go with the red hot sex. Great little read. I give it 4 modokker book pick stars. Find more about author Ava Meyers by clicking here.

Book review: Animal magnetism by author Jill Shalvis

I discovered Jill Shalvis sometime last year. I can't remember the first book of hers i read but i have liked everyone that I've read. Not just so so like I've really liked them. When you like a author that much you can sometimes start to be afraid of disappointment. Luckily that has not happened so far!!! I Read Animal Magnetism last week and i really enjoyed it. I wasn't really sure what it was going to be about based on the cover although it's very cute. That kind of threw me a little but not long once i started reading. Here is the back cover blurb.

Animal Magnetism

This alpha male is going to bring out her wild side…

Sunshine, Idaho, is a small and sunny town—the perfect home for man and beast. Well, maybe not for man, as pilot-for-hire Brady Miller discovers when his truck is rear-ended by what appears to be Noah’s Ark.

The co-owner of the town’s only kennel, Lilah Young has good reason to be distracted behind the wheel—there are puppies, a piglet, and a duck in her Jeep. But, she doesn’t find it hard to focus on the angry, gorgeous stranger she’s collided with.

Lilah has lived in Sunshine all her life, and though Brady is just passing through, he has her abandoning her instincts and giving in to a primal desire. It’s Brady’s nature to resist being tied down, but there’s something about Lilah and her menagerie—both animal and human—that keeps him coming back for more…

For starters this is a basic romance book. I love these. the kind you enjoy reading because there always some laugh out loud moments. My boys asked me more than once what's so funny. Gotta love that! If your looking for something like that this is a good book for you. This is the first of what i believe will be 3 books in this series. Brady, Dell and Adam were foster brothers today years ago. Dell and Adam run a veterinary clinic called Belle Haven. They've been trying to lure Brady there for a while and finally snagged him with a helicopter they want him to restore for the  clinics use. Brady did some time in special forces and learned how to fly and fix about anything. He promises he'll stay 30 days to get it running and then he's leaving. One thing stands in his way though. Little Lilah Young and her bruised heart and her myriad of animals at the shelter she runs just up the road from Dell and Adam's clinic.  Instant attraction when they meet that simmers to a boil. I love this contemporary romance. I mean i got to laugh out loud before the end of the first chapter. That's how i knew i was going to love the book. You can check out this book and read a excerpt at Jill Shalvis' website by clicking here. No idea when the next book in this series will come out but i believe i read somewhere it's going to be about Dell. I give Animal Magnetism 4 out of 5 Modokker Book Pick stars. Loved it!

Review: The Perfect Play by author Jaci Burton

I've been working on my immediate TBR pile that i posted about a couple weeks ago. I have read 3 so far. First i had to read The Perfect Play by Jaci Burton. i have to admit it was tough to decide which to read first. I mean look at my list? It's a awesome looking list. The perfect Play is the first in Play-by-Play series. I'm not sure what's better finding a series when it's first starting or once there are a few books in and you get to play catch  up which in this instance would be fun. Jaci was blessed with a awesome cover for this book. One of the best I've ever seen i think. You could probably spend at least 10 minutes just looking at the cover. lol I kind of like sports themed books so i figured I'd like this one too. Here is the blurb from the back of the book.

The Perfect Play

Book One in the Play-by-Play Series

Football pro Mick Riley is an all-star, both on the field and in the bedroom. But a sexy, determinedly single mom just might be the one to throw him off his game...

For years Mick has been taking full advantage of the life available to a pro athlete: fame, fortune, and a different girl in every city. But when he meets and beds confident, beautiful event planner Tara Lincoln, he wants much more than the typical one-night stand. Too bad Tara's not interested in getting to know football's most notorious playboy any better.

As the single mother of a teenage son, the last thing Tara needs is the jet-set lifestyle of Mick Riley; even though their steamy and passionate one-night stand was unforgettable. Tara's life is complicated enough without being thrust into the spotlight as Mick's latest girl du jour. Tara played the game of love once and lost big, and she doesn't intend to put herself out there again, especially with a heartbreaker like Mick.

But when Mick sets his mind to win, nothing will stop him. And he has the perfect play in mind.

OK i liked Mick  who is a NFL player because he's not what you think he would be. He has morals and a wonderful family and is down to earth. Looking at him i guess you wouldn't think so at first. He's got secrets just like everyone else and things he's embarrassed of to haunt him. Tara  who has her own events planning company is a kick ass kind of girl whose had it rough and has fought to be where she is. She doesn't think she's the right material for Mick so Mick has to work to get her to see she's just what he's looking for. Mick's agent Elizabeth Darnell tries to throw a monkey wrench into the whole works a few times and eventually succeeds or does she? You have to read to find out. One word of warning so you're not surprised and blame me. This is a romance but it's also erotica so the language and sex scenes can be a bit explicit.Hot but explicit. I've seen a few reviews on amazon not on this book but other erotica books where people have downloaded it free to their kindle to find out it's erotica and not at all what they expected. This one is actually pretty tame compared to other books. I really enjoyed it and i can't wait for the next installment duly titled "Changing the Game" This one features Mick's brother Gavin who is a baseball player and interestingly enough Elizabeth their agent. Changing the Game comes out August 2nd. You can read all about both books and read a excerpt for The Perfect Play on Jaci Burton's website by clicking here. I give The Perfect Play 4 out of 5 Modokker Book Pick stars. FYI if you buy The Perfect Play in the back ins a special preview of Changing the Game.

What i'm reading this month

Like i don't have enough to read on my TBR pile i ordered more the other day from Barnes and Noble.com. I had a $10 gift card burning a whole in my pocket and i bought a $20 gift card last week for $10 from Groupon.com so i had $30 all together to spend. Barnes and Noble was nice to enough to have a sale on romance books, buy 3 get 1 free. Took a little time looking around and making my choices. I ended up with 5 books so that i could use the whole $30 and i received free shipping for spending at least $25. In the end it cost me $15 for 5 books. Ten dollars for the groupon deal and then a extra $5 because my order was $35 and i only had $30 in gift cards. Not bad at all! As to what i bought here is my list
Perfect Play by Jaci Burton
Simply Irresistible by Jill Shalvis
Animal Magnetism by Jill Shalvis
No Place to Run by Maya Banks
Raziel by Kristina Douglas.

I'm a big fan of Maya Banks, Jill Shalvis and Jaci Burton but i have not read Kristina Davis and the cover just jumps at me so i decided to get the book. No Place to Run in the first in the KGI series and i have the 2nd but haven't read it. If you know me you know i have to read my series book in order. lol I've decided to start with Perfect Play and it's gorgeous cover. Check it out below. I'll be writing up my thoughts once I've finished reading it in a few days so check back to see if the cover lives up to the story on the inside. These are the books that are on deck for me to read. Add to that Ruthless Game by Christine Feehan and Archangels Consort by Nalini Singh and i have a full plate of reading to do. Can't wait to dive in!
