Book review: The Place I Belong (Country Roads #2) by Inez Kelley

 photo 16647317_zps46a7f04f.jpg

Available February 24th 2014
Zury Castellano escaped a dreary city life and will do anything to protect her chosen home’s scenic vista. Black Cherry Falls is more than her job, it’s her passion. The State may have sold her beloved mountaintops to a lumber company, but they’re in for a surprise if they think she will just sit by and watch them destroy it. That cocky PR guy will never know what hit him.

Jonah Alcott walked away from his rigid religious family and found his place as Public Relations Director for Hawkins Hardwood. He plays as hard as he works, but the Black Cherry Falls project stretches him to his limit. A beautiful but tenacious resort manager calls in a radical environmental group, and Jonah steps out of his office to show her personally who the real bad guys are. However, only Jonah can decide where his true loyalties lie, with his job or his heart.

Inez Kelley takes us back to the mountains of West Virginia with the 2nd book on her Country Roads series. This time it's playboy Jonah Alcott's turn to take one for the team. Jonah is Hawkins Hardwood's public relations guy. He's tasked with making nice with Zury Castellano who is the park ranger of Cherry Creek Falls state park and a enviromentalist. After her upbringing as a poor kid from the city she got a chance at some happy when she was sent as a child to spend time with a family in the mountains and now grown up she lives where she found her happiness and she's not going to let loggers destroy it.  Jonah and Zury agree to spend the weekend together. Both will try to show the other side of things. In the mean time though Zury and unknowingly set an eco-terrorist in motion to stop the logging and it might get someone hurt or worse.  Love this second book in this series. Jonah and Zury do not have happy childhoods but Jonah has some really deep scars from his that you just wouldn't think are possible considering who is projects himself to be now. This was a very emotional book in some ways ans Jonah is forced to deal with his past and his family but also brings him and Zury closer together. There is a wisp of danger in this story from a crazy dying eco-terrorist that winds up the story towards the end and was more than i expected. Inez Kelley really holds nothing back with her characters and you feel the brunt of everything that happens.  This series so far has been more than i expected and I get a contemporary romance with a bit of suspense and a lesson or two in a nice mix. Excited to see where book 3 takes us this coming July.

Book review: The Raider (Highland Guard #8) by Monica McCarty

 photo 18007522_zps0e5753d8.jpg

Available February 25th 2014
After consolidating his gains against the enemy English, King Robert the Bruce of Scotland sends his best soldiers to fortify the lawless borders. These legendary warriors of the Highland Guard let nothing come before king and country - except the calling of their heart.
Of all Bruce’s elite warriors, Robert “Raider” Boyd is the most formidable. A true patriot whose bare hands are a deadly weapon, Robbie is the fierce enforcer of the Guard, and his hatred of the English has been honed to a razor-sharp edge. But vengeance proves bittersweet when his enemy’s beautiful sister falls into his hands and he finds himself fighting temptation - a battle he badly wants to lose.
Lady Rosalin Clifford barely recognizes the rebel prisoner she saved from execution six years ago. Though her girlish ideals for fairness have matured into a passion for justice, Rosalin believes she betrayed her brother when she helped this dangerous man escape. Now her traitorous act has come back to haunt her. But she can’t deny the longing this tormented warrior ignites in her, or deny the passion that turns sworn enemies into lovers. Is the gentle love of a true English Rose enough to free Scotland’s most brutal warrior from a path of vengeance - before it’s too late?
For some reason i fell in love with Scottish highlanders in books years ago. Never met one i didn't like. Monica McCarty takes us into a the fabulous world of the Highland Guard. Made up of some exceptionally talented, as well as sexy warrior men. Alpha males for sure but sweet hearts for the right woman. This book is Robbie Boyd's turn and starts 6 years before the main story takes place.  The enemies sister Rosalin Clifford helps him escape her brothers prison. Her 16 year old self fancied herself in love with Robbie. Couldn't bear to see anything happen to him. He didn't know who she was. Now 6 years later she's unwittingly kidnapped by Robbie along with her 13 year old nephew.  Robbie finds himself trying to figure out what to do with Rosalin once he figures out who she is and that she's his savior from years before. What do you do when you're attracted to the sister of your biggest enemy. When you've grown a hate for all things English?  Robbie used to believe right and wrong and now all he believes in is revenge. Rosalin muddies up the waters for him and makes him rethink the way he sees things now.  I liked this book poor Robbie is a alpha who thinks he knows everything but Rosalin is a tough woman and won't let him get away with just going after revenge anymore. Throw in his partner Sir Alex Seton who has been a thorn in his side since they were partnered together and it's a crazy mix that knocks Robbie off balance.  Great continuation of the series with a great glimpse of some of the previous Highland Guard members and what's going on with them as well. I can't wait to see what Monica McCarty does with Sir Alex Seton considering how she left him at the end of this book.  I love the history lesson that comes at the end of these books too.

Book review: Take Me Home (Country Roads #1) by Inez Kelley

 photo 16647093_zps20243926.jpg

Available Nov/2013 ebook

Logging manager Matt Shaw is wary when Kayla Edwards, the owner of Mountain Specialty Spices, hires his firm to harvest timber on her Appalachian property. It’s a place he knows better than the back of his calloused hand—it’s his family’s old homestead, lost years ago in a painful foreclosure. He’s hauled himself up from dirt-floor poor since then, and resolves to stay professional… But Kayla’s vivacious beauty makes it hard to focus on his job.

Home. That’s how army-brat-turned-foodie Kayla feels about her new mountain hideaway. What’s more, the hottest lumberjack ever to swing an axe has agreed to manage her timber crop and get the old maple syrup operations back on tap. Matt’s ruggedly sexy ways and passion for the land have her falling hard.

The heat between them grows wild…until Kayla discovers that Matt hasn’t been upfront with her. She feels devastated, and worst of all, used. How can Matt prove it’s her he wants and not her land?

This is the first book in a trilogy of the Country Roads series by Inez Kelly. Matt Shaw had a rough childhood. Oh it had it's happy moments as with most kids it doesn't take a lot to make them happy but they never had much money and seem to be short on other things. Then one day it all came crashing down completely when they lost the family home and the mountain property around it to foreclosure.  He was homeless. Now years later he's a grown man and back  in his hometown working for a logging company. He finds himself assigned to the very property his family owned all those years ago. Kayla was a Army brat and now as her parents are both gone now was looking for a place to call home and this mountain land called to her and fits her business ideas. Matt and Kayla sizzle on the page. You feel for Matt and what he went through as a child but Kayla is not without her own issues in her past. Along with this story you get some lessons on logging and trees that i found interesting. It didn't overpower the book which i appreciated.  Fore me i enjoyed all the aspects of this book. It's a comfortable read with a great story with some extra info included on logging and making maple syrup as well but it blends with the story to enhance it. I like the secondary characters as well and look forward to more from this series.  A great beginning.

Book review: Baby, It's Cold Outside (Men at Work #1) by HelenKay Dimon

 photo 18663309_zps29f8fd9d.jpg

Available 2/25/2014
Men at Work, Book 1

Sex in the office? Lincoln Campbell knows better. His assistant, Thea Marshall, is off limits—until her back hits the door and her clothes come off. The next day brings more than morning-after regrets. It brings damning evidence that Thea stole business secrets.

Three months later, he can’t shake the doubts in his gut, so he heads for Thea’s family cabin by the lake, ready to talk. He’s not ready for the woman who answers the door. She was shapely before…and it won’t be long before she’s a totally different shape.

After Linc escorted her off company property while her protestations of innocence fell on deaf ears, facing off with him now isn’t exactly Thea’s idea of a good time. She needs a few more weeks to plan the drastically different direction her life has taken, but now he’s here—and refusing to leave.

With a storm rolling in and snow piling up, there’s nothing to do but face the past…and try to resist the real man behind the suit.

Warning: A hot businessman who usually gets what he wants. A strong woman who refuses to be pushed around—on the morning after, or any other time. And a cabin where the showdown begins.

HelenKay Dimon is bringing us a brand new series Men at Work. In this first book Lincoln Cambell is attracted to his new assistant Thea Marshall. He knows better than to mix business with pleasure and has a company rule about dating within the company. One day he breaks that rule and by the next day regrets it when it looks like Thea might have stole company secrets and shared them with a rival. Without talking to her about it and presenting her with the evidence so she might have a chance to defend herself he publicly fires her.  She pleads with him to talk to her but his hurt feelings won't allow anything other that getting her away from him.  It's not long though and he's wondering if she really did it and if he didn't overreact.  Thea has no family left and she took the job with Linc's company to start over and  fell hard for her boss from day one and their night together thought they might have something.  After Linc fires her she goes away to her parents cabin to get a grip on things and be alone and figure out what to do. She gets a surprise from her night with Linc she didn't expect but is happy to have.  Then her friends show up to check on her and hot on their heels is Linc. He invites himself to stay and they are forced to sort out their feelings and what happened at work.  Linc and Thea have chemistry from page one and the first chapter is so hot there is no way you can set this down without reading it to the end so don't start it if you do not have a nice block of time to read. Linc is a bit of a alpha male with a chip on his shoulder but Thea is no pushover and can take care of herself. Excellent writing and the person who in the end stole the secrets was not who i expected at all so kudos to HelenKay Dimon for getting me there. lol Great introduction to what looks to be a really hot series!

Book review: Baby, Be Mine (Thompson & Sons #2) by Vivian Arend

 photo 18484291_zpsfae5f61d.jpg

Available February 25th
What the mind forgets, the heart remembers.

Since the moment Katy Thompson transformed from annoying tagalong to desirable woman, Gage Jenick has awaited his chance. When she kicks her boyfriend to the curb, he doesn’t hold back—in spite of the next day work assignment that will take him away for six long months.

After a head injury sustained on a storm-swept road, Katy can’t remember her own email password, much less how the little pink “positive” on the pregnancy stick got there. Barring an influx of midichlorians, she’s at a loss to explain what happened, or when…or with whom.

Suddenly Gage is back in her life as if he has a right to be there. While she vividly remembers the crush she had on him, she’s no one’s charity case. But another thing she’d forgotten was just how stubborn Gage can be—especially when her domineering ex tries to stake a claim…

Warning. An unforgettable night that gets forgotten. A crazy redneck ex, and a hero who’s ready to take on the world, and his past, for his heroine.

This is the second book in the Thompson and sons series. This one features the only girl in the family Katy Thompson.  Gage Jenick has had a thing for Katy Thompson for a long time but since he grew up with the Thompsons, Katy was also like a little sister to him til one day she wasn't. It complicates things too that her brother is his best friend. Finally Katy has kicked her latest boyfriend to the curb and he sees his chance to make a move. After one night of incredible passion and honest talk about what he wants with her he has to leave for 6 months for a job.  Unfortunately Katy has a car accident right after he leaves that takes away a lot of her memories including what happened the night they were together. Gage gets a deal on his job to cut it back to two months instead of six and when he comes home excited to see Katy he's devastated to see she doesn't remember what happened and what they talked about. This is a fast quick read. Lots of complications stand in the way of Gage and Katy's relationship. She can't remember how to add two and two and people names let alone that Gage told her he loved her before he left. She's left fighting for those memories while dealing a ex boyfriend who wants her back and Gage wanting her. Gage doesn't give up though and starts all over with her.  There is the whole bombshell pregnancy to deal with it. Gage is sure it's his baby but a jealous and manipulating ex boyfriend claims it could be his too.  Love the Thompson family. Katy is a tough chick who can take care of herself and I love how Gage doesn't give up on what he wants.  Book one of this series is in the Anthology "Marked" and takes place at the same time of this book. If you've read it you can pick out spots that go with book one.  Look forward to more of this exciting new series.

Book review: Once in a Lifetime (Lucky Harbor #9) by Jill Shalvis

 photo 17899855_zps83afa4b7.jpg

Available Feb 18th 2014

SOMETIMES WRONG IS OH-SO-RIGHT

After a wrenching loss, Ben McDaniel tried to escape his grief by working in dangerous, war-torn places like Africa and the Middle East. Now he's back in his hometown and face-to-face with Aubrey Wellington, the hot-as-hell woman who is trouble with a capital T. Family and friends insist she's not the one to ease his pain, but Aubrey sparks an intense desire that gives Ben hope for the future.

Determined to right the wrongs of her past, Aubrey is working hard to make amends. But by far, the toughest challenge to her plan is sexy, brooding Ben - even though he has absolutely no idea what she's done . . .

Can this unlikely couple defy the odds and win over the little town of Lucky Harbor?

In this installment of the Lucky Harbor series we get Ben's story. He intrigued me in previous books. Seemed like a brooder and very mysterious.  He's been gone for 5 years after the death of his wife and now he's back in town. He soon finds himself helping Aubrey Wellington get her book store together. Aubrey has a reputation from way back of being bitchy and getting or causing trouble. Now she's trying to make up for a lot of things from her past with a list of people she feels she's wronged and Ben's on the list.  Ben finds himself drawn in by her and curious about her mysterious behavior. When he finds out about the list he insists on getting involved out of curiosity. What he finds is a woman he can admire. The problem is what happens when he finds out he's on the list and why.  What i loved about this book is the chemistry of Ben and Aubrey. You can feel the hot factor coming off the page right from the beginning. Ben and Aubrey seem like opposites in a lot of ways and in a lot of ways the same. Both have different backgrounds to overcome and even though Ben comes across as the strong one it's really Aubrey who is Brave.  Jill Shalvis knocks it out of the park with Ben and Aubrey. Charming and fun dialogue and  hot sex scenes down to the emotional ending it's one of the best books i have read so far this year. Take me back to Lucky Harbor again and again.

Book review: The Hitwoman Hunts a Ghost (Confessions of a Slightly Neurotic Hitwoman) by J.B. Lynn

 photo 20783212_zps0419c0ef.jpg

Available now!
Bumbling hitwoman Maggie Lee has discovered the sister she thought was dead might be alive. She’s desperate to find her, but all of her bosses are making unreasonable demands. Demands she can’t afford not to meet.

Once again, Delveccio, the chocolate pudding loving mob boss, needs someone whacked.

Her obnoxious boss at her day job insists she intervene on his behalf with her semi-psychic friend, Armani.

And the mysterious organization with the power to put her almost-lover Patrick behind bars has saddled her with an annoying new partner and sent her on a mission that has gone to the dogs.

With the clock ticking, Maggie (along with her snarky lizard, dyslexic Doberman and Southern belle cat) does her best to pull off every job without winding up in jail or dead…but is her best good enough?

OMG if you have not tried this series yet why not! The Hitwoman Hunts a Ghost is the latest installment of Hitwoman series by JB Lynn. If you like some funny with your paranormal romance and maybe a thrill or two this might be a good series for you to try. The series follows Maggie Lee as she falls into a unwanted career as a hitwoman. No matter what she does she can't get out of her not fun career. A car accident at the beginning of the series makes it possible for her to talk to animals which comes in handy when your trying to kill someone and in this book when you're trying to find a dog named Ghost for a shady woman that is blackmailing you. This book like the others is a great mixture of funny commentary, a sexy cop/hitman ( Patrick) and someone getting taken out, literally. I'm always pulled through the story from cover to cover not knowing at all what's coming. I never find the story predictable and there are always interesting twist and turns and a cliff hanger i just know is coming. Exciting from cover to cover what else could you ask for?

Book review: Grasping For Freedom (Bantorus MC series) by Debra Kayn

 photo 20687214_zps45551b2d.jpg

Available now!
In Debra Kayn's newest biker romance novel, Torque Kendler, Sergeant at Arms of Bantorus MC fights to keep his past hidden, while protecting the one woman who's capable of bringing chaos down on Pitnam out of desperation and love.

Torque Kendler, Sergeant at Arms of the Bantorus Motorcycle club, tenaciously safeguards his marked past. Shot twice by Los Li and nearly killed last year, he wants to hold on to the familiar and retain his freedom. However, there are too many changes happening in Pitnam for him to trust anyone…especially the new chick managing the bar that's giving him attitude and consuming his thoughts.

Sent by Los Li to work at a biker bar called Cactus Cove, Brandy Haas expects to get the information she came for and save her dad from the Mexican mafia. Worried about her dad, struggling at her job, and scared of failing again, she adds to her problems by lusting after the most dangerous biker in the MC. One biker, one hothead, one wonderful gift Torque unknowingly gives her could destroy everything she's trying to protect.

This is installment of the Bantorous series we finally find out what the story is on Torque. If you've read the previous books you know he's been shot twice and came close to dying. The manager of Cactus Cove the bar owned by the Bantorous club has retired and Brandy Haas is the new manager hired by Rain to run the place. She's young and fiesty and more than capable. Right away she rubs Torque the wrong way. They butt heads but can't seem to keep away from each other.Brandy has a secret though. She's in trouble. Los Li the Mexican mafia and a enemy of Bantorous has her dad and she's there to spy on them and pass secrets to Los Li in the hopes of getting him out of their hands. Torque has a shadowy past and he's a loner just the way he likes it but Brandy gets under his skin and when she finally tells him what's going on he protects her and swears to help her get her dad back. What i love about this book is that even though both Brandy and Torque had troubled pasts they don't let it keep them from moving forward but together they help each other start to heal and actually live fuller better lives. What i like about the series is that the club members are family by choice and they protect each other. The men are alpha makes but the women are tough as well and even though this is supposed to be hard motorcycle guys they still have their soft spots and let them show. The characters feel real.  Good series from book one and going strong in my opinion.

Book review: Scandal on the Sand (The Billionaires of Barefoot Bay # 3) By Roxanne St Claire

 photo 19321773_zps8e042d00.jpg

Available now!
Nathaniel Ivory is known in the tabloids as “Naughty Nate,” and this son of a huge, wealthy family that’s often referred to as “American Royalty” has done everything he can to earn that nickname. Nate’s penchant for trouble has kept him from fully earning a respectable spot in the many family businesses. He’s forever destined to be the black sheep whose scandals need to be swept under the rug. But Nate is determined to change all that through his new position as the manager of the minor league baseball stadium and team that he and his friends are launching in Barefoot Bay. All he has to do is avoid even a hint of scandal.

But then he meets irresistible, blue-eyed Liza Lemanski, who makes some claims about his past that rock him to the core. Liza maintains that Nate has a son that is a result of a fling he had with her best friend, who died in an accident. Liza plans to adopt the child, but wants to eliminate any chance Nate will claim paternity rights. No problem...he doesn’t even believe he has a son, and thinks the whole thing is probably a scam. Until he meets four year old Dylan and recognizes every Ivory gene in the child. All he has to do is give up his child to save himself from a scandal he can't afford to have, but suddenly Nate is looking at life differently. As he and Liza dig to find out the truth about Dylan's father and mother, their attraction turns to fire and, without a doubt, someone is going to get burned.

This is Roxanne St Claire's 3rd novella is the Barefoot Billionaire's series. This time we get a look into what makes "Naughty Nate" tick! He's trying to turn over a new leaf from his playboy ways by laying off the partying and playing and putting together the new baseball team he and his friends are working on. Liza Lemanski walks into his life with a huge secret that turns his life upside down.  Liza is raising her friends son since she was killed a car accident. She's tough and smart and caring and trying her best to keep Dylan, her friends boy and hopes to adopt him.  Nate and Liza have to work together to investigate the child's paternity and it also gives them a chance to get to know each other.  This was everything you expect from Roxanne St Claire. Terrific characters, sexy scenes and those heart moments that have the potential to make you tear up and cry just a bit. This is a novella length story with the feel of a full length.  I highly recommends this threesome of novella's in this series. If your a contemporary romance fan you can't go wrong.

The mysterious Mr. Wolff is hiding a hairy secret and doesn’t want to let anyone get close, but he’s drawn to this innocent young woman’s enthusiasm. When trouble finds them, they discover a werewolf and a demoness just might make an out-of-this-world match.

Anthology books can be so much fun to read. Of these four authors i have read only one so it's a chance to read three new authors in small tastes. I believe all these novella's are part of series. They have the feel of it from reading them which is fine if you can follow it. If you can't then it can be a little confusing. The only one i had a little trouble following was the last on by Holly Trent. My favorite was Laying Down his Colors by Debra Kayn. She gives us a quick look into the Bantorous MC  with Bruce the bartender of the club and Kristen who is the daughter of a club member who is supposed to be do not touch.  Fortunately love conquers all when Bruce fights for his right to claim the woman he loves. Quick fast and sexy read. I enjoyed all the offerings and if you're looking to perhaps find some new authors to try this is a great way to do that.

Book review: Forgotten Sins (Sin Brothers #1) by Rebecca Zanetti

 photo 173338721_zpsb59263e9.jpg

Available now!
His Secrets Can Destroy Her

From the moment Josie laid eyes on sexy, mysterious Shane Dean, she was in love. Their desire ignited a passionate affair, and within weeks, Shane had slipped a ring on her finger. It seemed her every fantasy was coming true . . . until her new husband disappeared without a trace. Now, two years and one broken heart later, Josie is shocked by the hospital calls: Shane has been found . . . at a crime scene with no memory of how he got there.

Her Love Can Save Him

Shane can't remember the blue-eyed angel at his bedside—or who he even is—but he knows something isn't right. His hearing is razor sharp, his physical strength incredible, and the urge to protect Josie overwhelming. For powerful enemies are hunting him, and Josie is the key to discovering why. As Shane struggles to unravel his past, dangerous new truths come to light. Can he protect the only woman he's ever loved? And can Josie trust a man she thought she knew—one who carries such a deadly secret?

This is my first Rebecca Zanetti book. It's the first of two so far in a new series and is a twist on paranormal and romantic suspense. The book opens with a little backstory on the four Grey brothers. As young children they appear to be in a military camp but an unusual one where they are taught to kill and have enhanced mental and physical abilities. It's kill or be killed. They are stuck until they can find a way to escape. Years later they staged their escape and are trying to find answers to save their lives. They have a chip in their necks that if it is not reprogrammed in 3 months will terminate their lives.  Shane the 2nd from the youngest of the four shows up in the town Josie is living in beat up with dead guys at the scene where he is found. He has no memory of who or what he is. That's not the only issue. Two years earlier he met and married Josie and a few months later he disappeared without a word. Josie was a orphan who was passed around and lost out on her best chance to be adopted so she's learned to cope with being alone. After Shane she was so broken hearted it was a fight to get back to what she feels is OK. In walks Shane and he demands her attention and makes her deal with him. He thinks someone is after him but he has no idea who and why since he can't remember. As small pieces of his memory comes back to him they have to fight off the bad guys and figure out all the mysteries  they keep running into. You get a intro to two more of the brothers and a little nudge and who and what book two will be about. The story set up is a little unique and different although it reminds me of Christine Feehan's Ghostwalker series. I like the three brother we get to meet. I thought Josie was a little weak. She kept talking about how she could take care of herself but whenever anything happens she can't. Shane had taught her a little self defense in the brief time they had been together but the only person her skills seemed to work on pretty much was him. She had ideas but couldn't follow through.  The author mentions her orphan upbringing to much for me. Overall it's a good introduction to the series.

FIRST TIME IN PRINT!
January 28th 2014
Get ready to ride . . .Tyra Masters has had enough drama to last a lifetime. Now, she's back on track and looking forward to her new, quiet life. Until she meets the man of her dreams. The tattooed, muscled biker plies her with tequila-and the best sex of her life. She knows it isn't the tequila and hot sex talking. He's the kind of man she's always wanted. Unfortunately, he's also her new boss . . .

Kane "Tack" Allen has a rule. He doesn't employ someone he's slept with. So when he learns he spent last night in bed with his new office manager, he quickly fires Tyra. Yet when Tyra stands up to him and fights for her job, Tack is intrigued. He tells her she can keep her job on one condition: no more sex. Ever. But as things heat up between them, Tack finds that he'll be the one breaking all the rules...

Ok this was a tough book for me and here's why. I have heard a whole, whole lot about Kristen Ashley books. All good stuff trust me. Of course this made me very curious so when the opportunity came about to read one of her books for review i jumped on it.  One of the big issues when i finished was that i realized i needed to read the previous books in the series first. I feel this is one of those books you cannot read as a stand alone. I can usually read most books without previous ones but i felt too lost with this one. Took to much guessing and assuming. Is the story good and interesting? Oh yes i can say that it is. Tyra and Tack are so way different at the beginning of this book it's not even a little funny. I thought to myself after the first chapter that Tyra is way vanilla and Tack is man slut. Way different backgrounds and ideas on everything it seems. It took me most of the book to warm to Tack and i really love alpha guys in my books but he was a little much for me. Tyra was a kick ass from the start but also afraid of Tack and putting herself out there. There was a little to much dialog that i don't think was needed and was filled with more slang than was necessary BUT also some of that dialog was so poignant it could bring you to tears. So yeah i was all over the place with this one. The ending chapters of the book is what really slammed it home i needed to read the previous books first as the characters (main) were in this book also and at the end play a big part. I was totally lost in there trying to figure out what the author was talking about because i didn't have those characters stories. In conclusion this was a very good book but my recommendation  is to not start with this one but to go back to the first book in this series and start there. I have been told by others to go back even father to the Rock Chick series first as well. Many are hooked on this series so i believe it's worth your while to give them a definite try.

Book review: Big Sky Secrets (Parable, Montana #6) by Linda Lael Miller

 photo 18006099_zpsd73ef6cb.jpg

Available now!
Self-made tycoon Landry Sutton heads to Hangman Bend's Ranch to sell his land to his brother Zane. Though he's got cowboy in his blood, Landry plans to return to city life before the dust even settles on his boots. Of course, he didn't count on falling for Big Sky Country…or Ria Manning.

Ria's starting to settle into country life herself…until she has a close encounter of the terrifying kind with a buffalo. Turns out the peeping monster belongs to the cowboy next door—and he has her running even more scared than his bison. She wants a home where the buffalo don't roam, and the men don't either. Could Landry's homecoming be her heart's undoing?

I believe i am a few books behind on this series but i love Linda Lael Miller's cowboys and i had no trouble picking up this book and reading it on it's own. Landry Sutton in s a self made man who came from a terrible childhood with a wonderful mom who struggled to support him and his brother. Now that's he's been there done that and proven himself in the boardroom he's bought a ranch next to his brothers and is trying to figure out if he can fit in there or if he should go back to the boardroom. Into his life comes Ria Manning who buys a flower farm next to his and came there making her own escape from stuff in her own life. Even though they butt heads there is a sizzling attraction there but is is the lasting kind? Can they learn how to move on from past loses and disappointments. I loved Landry and Ria. They were both down but never out. Landry is there for Ria when she needs him and he returns to favor. It's a slow build and then a explosion when they finally let go and let themselves find love again. There are some funny bits between them and then Ria's niece also show's up and her crazy mean half sister to liven things up. Overall a great read that i really enjoyed. Linda Lael Miller knows her cowboys!

Book review: Texas Fandango (Texas Montgomery Mavericks #3) by Cynthia D'Alba

 photo 18485198_zps485528ca.jpg

Available Feb 4th
Two weeks on a beach can deepen more than just their tans.

Texas Montgomery Mavericks, Book 3

KC Montgomery was eleven when she met the love of her life. Of course, seventeen-year-old Drake Gentry didn’t know she existed, but that didn’t stop her girlish fantasies from growing and changing over the years.

Now, after enjoying a front-row seat to his breakup with his latest girlfriend, she’s been handed an all-grown-up fantasy come true—two weeks at the Sand Castle Resort. With him.

Drake most definitely noticed KC a long time ago, but the timing’s never been right. Now that he’s facing a lonely vacation that was supposed to be for two, it seems only natural to accept KC’s offer to fill in. And as far as her terms go… No strings. No expectations. No holds barred. Drake is no fool—he’s all over it.
But once they’re back in Texas there are invisible strings still hanging between them. Strings labeled attraction, affection…even love. And the more they try to untangle the knots, the tighter they’re bound together.

Warning: Beware of sunburns, whirlpool sex and sand in delicate places.

This is one sizzling hot read. It's a novella with a wallop! KC has been in love with Drake since she met  him. She was a kid of only 11 and he was 17 and her brothers best friend. When Drake finally noticed KC when she was older he was warned off her by her brother and cousin and he valued her friendship so he left it alone. For KC every time Drake appeared to be available some other woman showed up in the picture. Which is the case yet again but this time KC has had it. When Drake is dumped and is faced with taking a vacation that was for two alone she volunteers to go with him and tells him what she wants. Two weeks of being together in every sense and no strings. Off they go and the two weeks is filled with getting to know each other and amazing sex and a little thing called falling in love. What kinks up the works is each is afraid to confess to the other and so a huge misunderstanding  ensues and both are left confused and hurt. This is a great fast one evenings time read. It's hot and interesting and draws you through from cover to cover. Drake and KC have had a really long road to love but finally get their chance in this novella. Cynthia D'Alba writes characters are that are  fun and the sex scenes that burn up the page!
