Book review: When she wasn't Looking by HelenKay Dimon

Guest review by Sarah Conerty Jordan
Photobucket
Publisher's Blurb: No woman could deny the appeal of the sexy deputy sheriff Jonas Porter. But to Courtney Allen, Jonas has one major flaw—his badge. Years ago, Courtney's father was wrongfully convicted of a crime and she vowed to never trust a cop again. But when Jonas becomes the only man to believe in her father's innocence, Courtney begins seeing the brooding lawman in a whole new way.

Jonas knows in his gut that the real killer is still out there and determined to finish what he started long ago. To protect Courtney and bring the criminal to justice will require all the skills he can muster. And that means focusing on the job. Not the woman who makes him forget his troublesome past and arouses in him a passion that is anything but professional.

Review: When She Wasn't Looking (Harlequin Intrigue Series #1352) was published in May 2012 and is only $2.99 as a Nookbook!

I really enjoyed this book it was easily a favorite. Courtney is smart, brave, capable and doing her best to clear her father's name and stay alive. Jonas is the ultimate protector - both a lawman and sexy, alpha male. At first suspicious of Courtney, he quickly realizes that her life is in danger as the murder count begins to rise. Keeping her with him allows him to be in the middle of any action while trying to figure out who the killer is, and also allows him to satisfy his increasing possessiveness and attraction for Courtney. The mystery is solid, and as well-built and written as the growing romance. All the characters are believable and it was hard to tell at first who was a bad guy. And watching Jonas slowly realize Courtney was the victim at the same time his respect and attraction was growing made for a great romance. Having the romance blossom under extreme stress and danger creates such a believable scenario - a pressure-cooker romance! Those conditions heighten and enhance the senses and emotions, and I was quickly caught up in the story and didn't want to come out for trivial things like sleep, work and caring for my children - the sure sign of a great book!

Modokker Book Picks welcomes author Debra Kayn (Giveaway!)

I was lucky enough recently to interview the fabulous Debra Kayn. I tried to come up with 5 interesting questions for her. Hopefully i did ok. If you have any questions you would like to ask Debra go ahead and do so in the comments at the end of this post and be entered for a ebook version of her latest release Rodeo Rebel! See info on that book below. On to the the questions!

1. What made you decide to become a author? Anyone inspire you?

I’ve always enjoyed writing, of course. But, it wasn’t until I took an online writing course years ago by a published author. She said I had a wonderful writing voice and encouraged me to continue. That planted the little seed of “I wonder if I can do this?” in my head. Now my readers inspire me. We all have off days where we’re not feeling the love of writing, and it seems I’ll get an email or message from someone who wants to thank me for whatever book they’re reading of mine, and I’m inspired to keep going. I cherish those messages from readers.
2. What do you do when your muse won't cooperate with you and you need to write?

I’m very accurate with a rifle. It’s the country girl in me. When that doesn’t work, I force myself to write. I write every single day, whether I have anything important to write or not. I think this goes back to years ago. I was the girl who wrote in a journal, every single day. I have tons of journals stored in boxes. It’s crazy!
3. Do you keep a board with visual ideas for the book or series your working on? A lot of authors are now using pinterest.com for this.

I tried to do a storyboard once. That didn’t work out so well. What I’ve found that helps me the most is OneNote. It’s a program that comes with Word. I would be totally lost without it. I can copy/paste, drag pictures to it, and create the biggest character bible you’ve ever seen. Best of all, I don’t have to worry about saving it. It’s just there at my fingertips.
Pinterest? That’s the devil! Total time suck. I love it! I love to cook, and the recipes alone make that site addictive.
4. You have a very interesting website with a new feature where people ask you for help with their marriage and you give out bits of advice. How did that come about?

Ah, my Dear Deb, Spice up my marriage post I do every Friday. That’s so much fun for me to do. It started years ago. Not the actual column, but the idea. I’m one of those people who go to the store and perfect strangers come up and talk to me. Before I know it, I’ve heard all about their problems. Because of this happening all the time, I always dreamed of having a job in some major paper, writing and advice column. When I confessed about my secret on my website, I started receiving emails from people asking me for advice. A year later, I decided to start the Friday Dear Deb post. In one month, I’ve received almost 80 emails asking for advice. Of course, it’s all in fun and for entertainment purposes only, but there’s good advice for every one. You can check out the past posts here. http://www.debrakayn.com/p/dear-deb-spice-up-my-marriage.html
5. You have one more McDougal sister then what? What's in the works for you in the future?

Yep. The last book is Bisette’s story, and then I’ll be done with the Sisters of McDougal Ranch series. In November, I’ll have the beginning of a new series released. It’s about professional athletes and the women who put up with their big, um, egos. I have the next four book proposals for that series submitted to my editor right now, so cross your fingers!

Thank you so much for having me at your blog today, Lisa. You know I always love coming to visit!

Book Review: Angel Betrayed ( book 2 Fallen series) Cynthia Eden

Photobucket

Out everywhere June 26th 2012

Sammael–call him Sam–was an angel once. An Angel of Death. But the dispassionate, watch-from-above thing just wasn’t working for him when it meant watching evil torture innocent souls day in and day out. It might have cost him his wings, but these days he gets to apply the direct method on the bad guys. Problem is, what’s making his life difficult is a bad girl…

Seline O’Shaw needs protection, and with the hounds of hell on her tail, she’s not going to quibble too hard about where she gets it. Sam’s virtue is questionable, but he’s smoking hot, massively powerful, and owes her a favor. So what if she’s getting a little case of angel lust? There are some damn deadly sins after her hide…

I think this might be my first Cynthia Eden book. I saw this on netgalley and it called to me. What can i say it did. Been a while since i read a good paranormal and the cover was pretty easy on the eyes and the blurb reeled me right in. Sammael looks like a really bad dark evil guy at first. I thought omg how is this going to work out. I don't like this guy already. Then Seline comes on the scene and she's hurt and lost but determined. Quite misguided by the Rogziel the punishment angel who decided to step out on his own and punish all the Fallen. He's been the one to guide Seline since she was a baby and her parents supposedly died at the hands of each other. Seline is a halfbreed. Half Angel, half demon succubus. She's been told more than once she's a abomination. She believes it. Then Sam gets a hold of her. He's ancient compared to her 30 years. He knows after getting to know Seline that she's been led astray and used for what she can do. Trust between the two does not come easy but when it finally does it's a thing of beauty. You can see as the story moves on that Sam isn't all as evil as he first appears and that Seline is way more than she thinks she is. I loved this book. It took me forever to finish because of person problems in my life in the past week but if i could have had the time i would've sat and read this in one sitting. I was so lost at first because quite frankly i couldn't figure out where the author was going. Not in a bad way but a good way. It was really unpredictable. I kept waiting for Sam and his brother AZ to make up and they only ended up in limbo there really with a truce which makes me wonder all the more what's coming in the next book.  Kept me guessing til the end how it was going to all come out. Love that!! Once Sam and Seline commit nothing will stop them. 5 out of 5 Modokker Book Pick stars for Angel Betrayed by Cynthia Eden.

Book Review: Rodeo Rebel (Sisters of McDougal Ranch book 4)by Debra Kayn

Available now!

When widower and land baron Cole Reardon acquired the Turner Grain Corporation, he didn't know the company sponsored a bull rider. He refuses to support thrill-seekers dumb enough to get on the back of a crazed animal. He’s not willing to risk his fortune and livelihood when he has his daughter's well-being to consider. Not even when the bull rider is the sexiest woman he's ever seen.

Bull rider Florentine McDougal plans to turn pro after the season championship, fulfilling her lifelong dream of succeeding in a man’s world. That is, until Cole Reardon shows up and threatens to break his sponsorship contract with her. Now everything she’s worked for is less than eight seconds away from being destroyed.

Cole distracts Florentine with his sexy mouth and unreasonable demands, and he's not going to compromise his integrity. But she's not going to let him loose until she has pro status. And neither will come away from this dust-up unscathed.

This is the 4th book in the Sisters of McDougal ranch series. I've been following the series since book one and enjoying them all. You read a lot of book series where the guys are who the series is about, but not many that feature the women.  It's fun to see this series then about a group of sisters and their ranch and the men who come into their lives. If you've followed along with the series you know that Florentine is the bull rider. She's been working hard for years to get into the PBRA and be a professional bull rider. It's a goal she set at the age of 17 when she struck out on her own. Finally she is so very close. Into her life walks Cole Reardon. He just bought the grainery that has been sponsoring her. He wants out of the contract. He can't condone what he thinks is reckless behavior.  Thing is she does something to him and he's torn about what he feels about her. He's also got a little girl, Sarah,  who lost her mama when her reckless behavior got her killed when she was a baby. He's got to protect her and he can't promote something as crazy reckless as bull riding. When Florentine injures herself getting thrown off a bull though Cole just can't seem to leave her on her own no matter how much she protests. He and his daughter end up staying at McDougal Ranch for Margot's wedding and their annual fireworks. Cole struggles with his feelings for Florentine and his need to protect his daughter and his heart. What a exciting struggle it is too. This i think might be my favorite of the series so far. I wonder if I have said that before?? lol There's something about Cole and Florentine's chemistry. He's a sweetheart of man but his heart was crushed when his first wife was killed and he was afraid to death of getting hurt again or having his daughter hurt. Florentine was a risk he wasn't sure he wanted to take even if his heart wanted her.  Loved it and can't wait to see what the happens with the sisters next!  5 out of 5 Modokker Book pick stars for Rodeo Rebel by Debra Kayn.

Book review: Sharing Hailey by Samantha Ann King

Photobucket

Available for pre-order out July 9th everywhere

Hailey Anderson's deep, dark secret? She's been madly in lust with her overprotective brother's two best friends for years. Gorgeous woodworking artist Mark Allen and sexy doctor Tony Adamo have no idea they star in her fantasies every night.

After a nasty breakup with her abusive boyfriend, Hailey's looking for a little distance. Headed for a two-week Hawaiian vacation with her brother and his hot friends, Hailey can't wait to feast her eyes on Mark's and Tony's rock-hard, ocean-slick bodies. Even if she can't touch.

But instead of treating her like their little sister, Mark and Tony have a surprising proposition: a monogamous ménage à trois. The three of them—and no one else. Both men want Hailey and have agreed to share her. The red-hot reality is even better than the forbidden fantasy. Until Hailey's ex threatens their newfound happiness…

This is my first Samantha Ann King book. I was looking around Netgalley and this cover caught my eye. Love covers! Anyway so i liked the cover so i had to read the blurb sounded interesting and thought i had to give it a try. New authors are always a risk because i hate to not like a book. Not like it enough to write a review of it anyway so i was hoping what i saw at that point meant good book in the end.  Hailey Anderson liked her brothers two best friends. Maybe like isn't a strong enough word. She lusted after them both and probably was in love with them. She didn't think they felt the same way plus they were her brothers friends and also how could she choose between the two so she ignored her feelings best she could. Tried to have a life have boyfriends and find love. When her current boyfriend started roughing her up she broke it off with him. She was scared but thought he'd let her go since he never seemed to think she was doing anything right anyway. Her brother and his wife and his two best friends and her were all going on a vacation to Hawaii. She could regroup there and decide what to do with her life then. To bad Mark and Tony had other ideas. They knew what was going on. That she was attracted to them both. They also thought she would have to decide between the two of them and didn't want to push her or her her. Then they decided they could share her and become a threesome instead of a twosome. Now they just had to explain it to her. lol  Unfortunately her ex wasn't going to give up on her so easily. He started stalking her and threatening her. In Hawaii Tony and Mark started their threesome and it was all knew for them all but now everything was threatened.  I like erotica but erotica with a good story is so much fun to read. I liked the story i liked the characters. I enjoyed reading it for the most part. Only part that bugged me is they use of the word Y'all. To me this word got thrown around a bit random. It didn't fit the characters. They didn't have any other southern accents or words so it didn't mesh and it bugged me every time a character said it.  I think if the story would've opened with a bit more back story with Hailey's boyfriend i would've liked that as well. I still enjoyed the whole thing immensely and would read this author again. Definitely a win for me! Good choice! 4 out of 5 Modokker Book Pick starts for Sharing Hailey by Samantha Ann King.

Book review: Honorable Intentions by Catherine Mann

Photobucket
Harlequin Desire  April 2012
Landis Brothers

Wingman Warriors

“I’m Here for You.”

Major Hank Renshaw knows almost everything there is to know about Gabrielle Ballard. Except for what it’s like to touch her. Because Gabrielle is his best friend’s fiancée. Or she was. Until his buddy died in battle—right after making Hank promise to find her…

So now Hank’s in New Orleans. In Gabrielle’s home. Watching her nurse her infant son. It’s not honor that draws him to her. It’s not duty that makes him stay. It’s need he’s feeling, plain and simple— the desire to take the woman he’s always wanted and finally make her his own.

I recently discovered Catherine Mann and so when i saw this little Harlequin Desire i had to give it a read. Honorable Intentions is about loving your best friends girl and not knowing what to do about it. Hank and Kevin were best friends. Both in the service together and shipped to Afghanistan. Kevin is shot and killed by a snipers bullet but before dying told Hank he forgave him for his attraction to his fiance' and for him to take care of her. Ten months later when Hank gets back stateside he goes to see Gabrielle to make good on that promise and finds her with a infant. A very sick infant who needs a surgery and who looks a like his friend Kevin. Kevin never knew about the baby and neither did Hank. It doesn't matter to him though. He is a person who looks out and protects and so he wants to help Gabrielle who is dead on her feet from caring for the sick baby. This is a sweet story. Hank and Gabrielle have to deal with guilt over their feelings for each other and that they feel they are betraying the memory of Kevin by being together. Made worse by the fact that they kissed before Hank and Kevin's deployment. Wading through the waters of grief and love to find out weather they can make it work and get past the hurt to find love. 4 out of 5 Modokker Book Pick stars for Honorbale Intentions by Catherine Mann.

If you've read book one in this series, and you should, you come out of it thinking that Olivia is a cold hearted little bitch. In this book you finally get to see why she is the way she is. Book Review: Hot Summer Nights ( Fool's Gold series book 8) by Susan Mallery

Photobucket

Up for pre-order now. Releases June 26th

Wild hearts cannot be tamed…

Horse whisperer Shane Stryker is done with passion. This time around, he’s determined to meet someone who will be content with the quiet life of a rancher’s wife. And the fiery, pint-size redhead who dazzles him at the local bar definitely does not fit the bill.

Small-town librarian Annabelle Weiss has always seen herself as more of a sweetheart than a siren, so she can’t understand why Shane keeps pushing her away. Shane has formed the totally wrong impression of her but only he can help her with a special event for the next Fool’s Gold festival. And maybe while he’s at it, she can convince him to teach her a few things about kissing on hot summer nights, too—some lessons, a girl shouldn’t learn from reading a book!

This is book 8 in the Fools Gold series. Susan Mallery really knows how to start a series and run with it. In this book Shane Stryker ( Rafe's brother from  Summer Days book7) is attracted to Annabelle Weiss the lovely librarian in Fool's Gold. His first time seeing her however she is dancing on the bar at Jo's place and he assumes she is a wild girl who loves attention. Oh boy. Big mistake. In reality Annabelle was stone sober and showing all the ladies in the tavern what the dance of the happy virgin was like.  Shane is the local horse guy. He knows how to do just about everything when it comes to horses. Annabelle finds herself at his families ranch to learn how to ride a horse and then hopefully how to ride one while the horse does a dance. She's trying to raise money for a nice four wheel book mobile for the library and is going to ride the horse in a parade. Shane wants to say no but gets caught up in her and just cant do it. Before long they find themselves in each others arms. Both Shane and Annabelle have had bad previous marriages. Annabelle's worked through her issues and is now trying to be happy with herself and find what she needs in a relationship. Shane on the other hand is still fighting the issues. He keeps comparing Annabelle to his ex wife.  It's starts to look like maybe he's never going to get a clue that his ex and Annabelle are in no way similar. I think it might have been a bit overkill in this area. I was reminded just a little to much about what a witchy cheat Shane's ex wife was but all the rest really made up for. Loved Shane and Annabelle together. Both have beautiful giving hearts. Eventually you have to hope Shane gets it together before he loses it all.  Susan Mallery has a way of weaving a great story while showing you a bit of past ones and future ones. I don't know how she does it but i do enjoy the end product. 4 out of 5 Modokker Book Pick stars for Summer Night by Susan Mallery.

Photobucket

Jenna Callahan has a young son and rewarding work on her father's ranch. She's content. But she never expected to see Nate Langley back in town--the first guy she noticed, the one her father sent away all those years ago. And she never thought the attraction they felt would be as strong as ever.

Jenna's cowboy has some healing of his own to do, though, after two tours of duty in the armed forces. With the help of good friends, strong faith, and a loving family, he hopes to put the horrors of the past behind him--and become the man Jenna deserves.

Book review: Spy Hard by Dana Marton

Photobucket
 Out June 5th 2012

Being deep undercover in a drug lord's compound, Jase Campbell can't afford to be anything but ruthless and mission-oriented. But it doesn't take trained instincts to see that pregnant Melanie Key needs his help to escape an increasingly lethal situation…whether she wants it or not. Jase can certainly understand why the once-naive widow insists on relying on herself and will trust him only so far. And her courage and unexpected resourcefulness in the face of killer obstacles is sparking something even more risky—and irresistible—between them. Now, with danger fast closing in, Jase will put everything at stake for a future with Melanie—if they can survive to have one.

I am a fan of Dana Marton Harlequin Intrigues. This latest release falls right in with Dana's other Intrigues. Spy hard features of course a hot, tall, dark and handsome spy.  Under cover in the jungle pretending to work for a drug lord Jase is trying to get into the hacienda where Pedro the drug lord let's his most protected men in. So far he hasn't been able to make it happen. Then passing by the hacienda looking for his chance in he spots a figure on the balcony. A woman crying? An American woman no less. Not his business he decides and moves on. Later when he comes face to face with her he discovers she's from Texas his home state and pregnant. Later he would find out she's very pregnant and ready to burst. Oh boy. Melanie wants to escape. The drug lord is her deceased husbands brother. He lured here there under the pretense of bringing her husbands ashes to him and then he kept her captive. He's after her baby which is a boy and would be his heir.  Jase has got to decide if he should follow the orders of his Op or try and help this pregnant woman which he's also finds he's attracted to. A lot of work has gone into this operation but when it comes right down to it he puts Melanie first. The time comes and he breaks her out and taking also a small tribal boy and his 3 legged pup they move as quickly as possible through the jungle hopefully to safety. Of course it's never that easy. This is a another great little suspense story from Dana Marton. I love that Melanie gives herself pep talks. Telling herself she can do it and she is in charge of her life. There are some humorous scenes and the one that stands out is when she takes off with some of Jase's stuff and the boy and ends up using the machete she stole and hits a huge hornets nest. Talk about your "oh shit!" moments. lol  She ends up blind because she gets stung on both eyes and Jase easily catches up to her. Finally he has to tell her he isn't really the bad guy he's been portraying so maybe she'll trust him. There are of course some kick ass fight scene's where Jase really cleans up and Melanie has a few moments too. It's the little tribal boy who saves the day though. Plenty of action, adventure and romance. Just the right amount of everything to make it a great enjoyable read.  4 out of 5 Modokker Book Pick stars for Spy Hard by Dana Marton.

Modokker's visits Lori Foster's Readers and Authors weekend (RAGT2012)

Wow so i got to go to my first readers and author's shindig. Can't call it a conference it was way to much fun to be that. My weekend trip started Friday morning about 8:30 AM when i left my small town in Michigan to head out to West Chester, Ohio which is just barely north of Cincinnati. After about 15 minutes in the car i was bored with my own company but about 6 and 1/2 hours later i made it to the Marriott in West Chester in one piece.  I was supposed to be meeting a old Army friend. Not that i consider either of us old or anything. lol My friend Sarah was coming in from Tennessee and was 3 hours in driving time behind me. OK so there i stood. Didn't know anyone or anything. Babe in the woods and all that. Couldn't find my way out of paper bag right then. I look around at the people standing all over and think OK now what? I turn around and there sits the lovely Jules Bennett. Who miracles of miracles recognizes me from my twitter picture. A friendly face in the sea of faces. After a few minutes chatting with Jules she's got to go and so as I'm saying goodbye  there walking towards me is Jill Shalvis who also recognizes me. I was told by many i look just like my twitter pic. I must look ok because no one ran away screaming. Chatted with Jill for a few minutes( who BTW is one of my fav authors. You should totally read her books). OK so yeah i have 2 more hours i think at this point to kill. I sit on this cute round couch chair and tweet on my iPhone. If your at #RAGT2012 and if that's possible bored I am sitting in front of the doors. Come say hello! Like 2 seconds later the wonderfully funny Dee Carney comes up and says HI! OK this is when i realize this is going to OK. It's going to be fun. As 6 pm is coming up and everyone is registered with their cute name badges and making their way into the ballroom for the pizza party i still have not seen Sarah ( my friend who met me there) and so i am standing there thinking,"um OK there for over 400 people in this ballroom and i don't see anyone i know to sit with, time to go hideout for a bit". Yes i thought that. Then the lovely Virna DePaul walks up and asks me if i need help. Isn't she sweet? She found me a seat at a really great table with some authors and readers and i had some really good conversation waiting for my friend  who finally gets there around 6 pm. No girlish screams because #1 the room is crowded with people and we don't want anyone thinking we're nuts and #2 we were starving and needed to eat pronto. It had been 21 years or so  since we last saw each other but it was like no time had passed and we chatted like girlfriends who know each other always do.

Anyway cutting to chase as they say. It was a really great weekend. I met tons of authors, readers and fellow bloggers, ate drank and was merry! Yes i did! It was a very comfortable setting once i got into the swing of things and everyone was friendly and nice and fun. Lori Foster and Duffy Brown and their families put a lot into this weekend. They have lots of help from volunteers too. I hope they all think it's well worth the effort but it's the best time I've had in ages. My friend Sarah and i plan to make it a yearly thing for us. I'm going to add some pics below. I didn't take as many as I should've and i have been kicking myself every since but here you go.

Book review: About Last Night by Ruthie Knox

Photobucket

About Last Night, coming from Random House / Loveswept, June 11, 2012!

Sure, opposites attract, but in this sexy, smart eBook original romance from Ruthie Knox, they positively combust! When a buttoned-up banker falls for a bad girl, “about last night” is just the beginning.

Cath Talarico knows a mistake when she makes it, and God knows she’s made her share. So many, in fact, that this Chicago girl knows London is her last, best shot at starting over. But bad habits are hard to break, and soon Cath finds herself back where she has vowed never to go . . . in the bed of a man who is all kinds of wrong: too rich, too classy, too uptight for a free-spirited troublemaker like her.

Nev Chamberlain feels trapped and miserable in his family’s banking empire. But beneath his pinstripes is an artist and bohemian struggling to break free and lose control. Mary Catherine — even her name turns him on — with her tattoos, her secrets, and her gamine, sex-starved body, unleashes all kinds of fantasies.

When blue blood mixes with bad blood, can a couple that is definitely wrong for each other ever be perfectly right? And with a little luck and a lot of love, can they make last night last a lifetime?

This is my first Ruthie Knox book. I have heard lots of great things about her first book Ride with Me so when the chance to read and review her new one About Last Night i jumped at it. Cath Talarico had a good happy life until at age 14 her dad passed away. He was her world kept her centered and with him gone she was lost. She rebelled against her mother and anything and everything. Got into trouble one way or another.. Over the years she did different things trying to find her place and her happiness but nothing seem to work out for her. After shunning her mom for most those years her mom tried to reach out to her when she was diagnosed with cancer. By the time Cath actually contacted her it was pretty much to late. She decided at that time she was going to be new Cath. She was going to responsible for herself. No more she going to start over and change all her bad habits including men. Nev Chamberlain was always a uptight banker type to Cath whenever she saw him at the train station she always thought he was impeccably dressed and stoic. She nicknames him City based on the way he looked and acted when she saw him. She had a nickname for all the people she regularly saw at the train station. She had a soft spot for this guy. Totally not her type.  Little did she know City/Nev had a soft spot for her as well.  Then one night after a blind date gone wrong with to much alcohol Nev finds Cath sitting at the train station a little drunk and teary eyed and takes her to his place.  He takes care of her and the next morning she finds out that City is so stiff and serious as she thought.

I liked that Cath had this possibly shady but sad and devastated past but she struggled and tried hard to do something about it. She had some devastating things happen to her but she didn't give up when she easily could have. Nev doesn't have the same kind of troubled past but he didn't have the best childhood. Shipped off away from home for school when he came home to visit his mother made him feel inferior and his older brother was mean or extra nice when he wanted something. His only comfort was his dad who he is a lot like. Both artist painters. Nev found himself forced into the family banking business and his mother and brother trying to control him. Slowly Nev starts breaking through Cath's many walls to find out what he can about her. She's afraid of love after he past history with marriage and slow to trust.  Nev takes her home to his family in a rouse that backfires on him. Cath fragile heart might be broke for good this time. I liked the story and the sex scenes for me were sometimes wild and passionate and other times endearingly sweet. Great story! I'll be back for more. 4 out of 5 Modokker Book Picks for About Last Night by Ruthie Knox.

Free ebook Friday! Sweet Release by Pamela Clare

Photobucket

For five pounds sterling, the convict was hers. Though Cassie hated the slave trade, her Virginia plantation demanded the labor, and she knew this fevered man would surely die if she left him. But as his wounds healed, and as his muscled chest bronzed from the sun, Cassie realized Cole Braden was far more dangerous than his papers had indicated--for he could steal her breath with a glance, or lay siege to her senses with a touch.

Abducted, beaten, and given a new name, Alec Kenleigh went from master of an English shipbuilding empire to fourteen years of indentured servitude in the American colonies. There, he was known as Cole Braden, a convicted ravisher and defiler of women. While he longed to ravish the auburn-haired beauty who owned him, he knew his one hope of earning her love--and his freedom--was to prove his true identity.
